the internet is so fucking, fucking stupid, with the whole "Putin defended JK Rowling"-drama that of course is Exciting! Novel! Unexpected! TWO UNRELATED TRENDING THINGS TOGETHER!! enough for western clickbait journalism to pick up, I've actually seen people go: "Well Vladimir Putin might be a dictator and a war criminal but he has a point about cancel culture!"

His government literally arrests people for voicing their opinion, he doesn't care about cancel culture. I don't know how to put this in your language: he cancels people from life! He unalives them! He perma-blocks them off the mortal coil! He doesn't care about your wizard book lady! He is bombing innocent people!!

Imagine seeing a dictator who has been cheating his way through elections for most of our lives invade another country and literally bomb innocent people - including children's hospitals and refugee centres and going: "But I do see his point on Harry Poppel discourse!"
