This week was actually the start of our midterm examination for the second semester. Also, this week we had our first pitching presentation held at the Tech Hub. It was an overwhelming experience yet fun in a way. We presented our idea to a judge through a 5 minutes presentation containing what our startup is about, what problem we are trying to solve and how we can solve it through a website called ‘DOER’. Doer is a web and mobile application for busy individuals to help them with their household or micro business needs. Roof damage during rainy season is a sad situation. Doer will save you from there! Getting things done in no time is one of the most fulfilling experiences. We believe that Doer will be solving one's needs while providing access to bigger opportunities for blue-collar and marginalized workers.
What is really the problem? According to our interviews and surveys: -Homeowners and Businessmen with fast-paced lifestyle that doesn't have time to fix or cater their household/business needs, -Owner of houses or businesses that have no skills to fix or cater their household/business needs and -Skilled Workers who are looking for jobs that is in line with their skills. (UNEMPLOYED). What is our solution? A web platform where users can: -Access Anywhere, -Search for a Specific Service and Hire. It is also a web platform where skilled workers can: -Get more opportunities to be hire to make a living.
According to the Philippines Statistic Authority: Population and Housing there are about 83,293 Homeowners in Cagayan de Oro (who have the possession of a house and a lot) out of 12,693,830 Homeowners around the Philippines (who have the possession of a house and a lot out). According to the Department of Trade and industry there are about 233,000+ micro businesses in the Hotel & Restaurant Industry in the Philippines. This statistics are our basis for our first adaptor or user of our product.
Our business model is through intermediation fee from our client. Our marketing strategies to promote the product are the following: - Personal usage,- Our circle (family, relatives, friends and co-workers), - Online communities (using social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram and Twitter), - Partnerships with organizations, NGO and government agencies through field marketing, - Bloggers and niche influencers through ex-deals and promotions and - Print advertising. We also have our competitors by which we are trying to produce more efficient services compared to them.
After the pitching we were asked by the judge if we already look for legal adviser because our startup involves labor or acquiring workers. Unfortunately, we haven’t consult anyone except NLRC and DOLE which both gave us a book to read about laws governing Labor Standard. Hopefully if we can read it we can somehow know some rules we must follow in line with laws of Labor Standard.
