Nivanfield log 1/x
Ouuugh being old enough to remember tumblr used to let you post more than 10 images ohhh
i am already sorta writing a chreon pacific rim au where they’re drift compatible BUT !! REALISTICALLY !!! i don’t think they’re drift compatible
in a full au, Ranger duos would be:
Chris & Jill ~ joined the ranger academy at the same time right when it opened, became best friends immediately. they were absolute menaces to their sergeants & fellow cadets with their shenanigans, and they’ve been partners since joining PPDC. literally inseparable. their drift compatibility makes them a little unnerving because they do often just seem to talk to each other in their heads. they’re legends in the Rangers since they’re among the first, and they have the most kills under their belts. they’re verrryyy raleigh & yancy coded
Leon & Grace ~ Leon joined the academy the moment he could [few years behind Chris & Jill] and graduated top of his class. joined up with PPDC, but wasn’t actually compatible enough with any other Ranger. he got one deployment [it went Wrong] before it was deemed too dangerous to have him in a jaeger, but he was still useful, so he helped train recruits & design new jaegers instead. not nearly as much of a legend as Chris & Jill, but definitely still very beloved among his coworkers & the recruits. Grace graduated uni with a degree in kaiju studies and joined PPDC as an analyst. atp it’s after the UN has withdrawn funding, so she’s working right under the marshal. at one point she’s overseeing recruitment training, gets pulled into assisting Leon with a demonstration, and it turns out, hey !! they’re drift compatible !! some tests and simulations later, they’re actually very drift compatible !! they kinda get forced into actually piloting together when a kaiju takes down one of two jaegers sent out to deal with it as an emergency, and they totally crush it. a little raleigh & mako going on here without all the romantic vibes those two have going on
Jake & Piers ~ unfortunately, i need you to think of Pacific Rim Uprising for these two. because they are absolutely so Jake & Nate. they were in the academy together; Piers worked very hard to get here and Jake was so dragged into this it’s crazy. Jake deals with his boredom and expresses his defiance by messing with Piers every opportunity he gets, because Piers is so hotheaded Jake gets a huge reaction no matter how small whatever he did to him was. left an argument with a muttered “meathead” once and got “i’m going to kill you” while being tackled in return, and that whole fight ended in a loooong disciplinary meeting with their sergeant. they finally graduated and joined PPDC, and Piers was sooo happy to be free of that jackass until they were lined up to get their assigned partners and his name was called alongside Jake Muller. Jake winked at him with that huge smirk and Piers nearly strangled him right then and there. very rarely they will have a moment that’s not filled with Jake successfully ragebaiting Piers, but basically never when they’re around other people. despite the fact that they seem to hate each other on the outside [at least, Piers seems to hate Jake], they work extremely well together in training and combat
been playing through the mainline revil games with @oughtnots in tow
We got hungry with Wesker in 1
We tortured Leon with a million mods in 2
3
We questioned Leon's strange phrases in 4
We realized Steam Input needed to be enabled in 5
Also I slipped some oc x canon in there because if oc x canon has no supporters I'm dead. be glad I didn't post my whole 11 page backstory comic.
thinking about how the save room music starts playing in the biowaste dump and it signifies the exact moment that they become each other’s safe space being when leon chooses to open up to grace & talk with her about Raccoon in ‘98
the fact that the notes have a longer run than in the save room theme because while the save room offers temporary safety from the monsters out in the halls, grace & leon signify a permanent safety from the monsters in their heads

chris isn’t the only redfield who looks hot smoking
Super quick Claire render! Im so pumped up for this remake!! Her fit is so fire I´m so obsessed with her new look >:)
wings of a valkyrie
This fits their dynamic a little too well I fear
I just imagine Chris being goofy af up until he gauges Wesker's reaction then immediately locks in to something more serious 💔
also re8 Chris would 100% be right up Wesker's alley though 😩
I love your art!! Nivanfield looks so good in ur style! Can you post more WIP /behind the scenes? I really enjoyed it!
Oh, thank you so much, anon!! 💜 Your kind message was such an unexpected surprise! You know what they say - ask and you shall receive! 💜 (Nivanfield has me in a chokehold lately, so as long as I still have time and energy, I will keep sketching them.)
their remake reunion is gonna kill me I know it
Chris reminds me of something one of my bio professors once said. He talked about a bunch of venomous snakes he and his colleagues had on campus for a project of theirs, and he mentioned that no matter how experienced you are, you always have to be careful about handling them. Because no matter how well you know them, the moment you get careless, you will get bitten. In fact, the more used to it you are, the more cautious you should be, because it's easy to let your guard down when it's familiar to you.
While talking to Jill in Death Island, Chris mentions that dying in the line of duty is something they need to be prepared for, but rushing in is dangerous and doesn't just risk their own lives. He admits that he would have probably done the same as Jill, but that's exactly why their job is hard - because they can't. He goes on to say that they've been in this fight for so long that they've grown numb to it, which is why they need to be even more careful now. And, well, you can probably see why I clocked that.
I don't envy Chris, tho! Telling Jill to not rush in feels a lot like trying to tell Leon not to rush in and, well.
I feel like Jill and Leon would either be the best or the worst team - mostly I think they'd split up pretty early on and just do their own thing till they meet up again. They're too similar in a way that doesn't make them meet in the middle, if that makes sense?
But I gotta respect Chris for holding onto that principle. He's both the guy who drops in solo if needed but also sticks to his squad and it's the perfect blend of, well, game protagonist who kicks ass in a way ordinary soldiers can't and won't, and a guy who's deeply aware of his role in the world - and what he isn't, in turn. Experience doesn't make him invincible, and relaxing into familiarity will get his teammates killed.
It sucks that he's lost so many men, but it's cool to see how it shaped the way he operates, which differs pretty hard from all the other protagonists of the series. If he's gonna be the protagonist in future games again, I wonder how they'll handle that aspect of him.
