Anywho, here's a tutorial for how I draw my clone troopers! It's just a simple little thing, but I hope it's somewhat useful for those who have asked about it?? If I miss anything, or you have any additional questions feel free to toss me an ask and I will try and answer as best I can!!
I admittedly work mostly digital, so if you're working in traditional, try and adapt these as best as you can to your mediums!! 💕💖💕
I spend so much time carefully picking and adjusting the colors in every single drawing I make that I’d probably lose my mind if I didn’t just repeatedly push this out of my memory and pretend it’s not a thing. Why am I reblogging a blank empty post that doesn’t say anything??? Weird
good news! you can’t make sure that everyone will see the correct colors on their own device, but you can make sure your monitor is as accurate as possible for printing and sharing by calibrating it!
there are a bunch of free monitor tests, but here’s an easy one you can use. the passmark and eizo tests are also pretty good, though passmark doesn’t work in your browser. be warned that some tests may cause eye strain.
you can either use the settings built into your monitor itself or use the display color calibration settings in your operating system to adjust the settings until everything looks correct, and then enjoy your accurate colors.

In my defense, I did six attacks/revenges, which is a lot for me! Plus I had fun doing them which is the real win here!

So about those Clone Wars Oc’s…uhhh…I may have speed-run their ref sheets in prep for art-fight.

Yea this counts as a yay moment!

So, a few things that need covering before we go further. The first of which being, “Sheeva they aren’t all identical, how can these be clones?” Personally, I go a little nuts if all my characters look too similar, I feel like they won’t be recognizable or that they’ll be confused with each other too easily, so I leaned in really hard into the slight differences clones can have. On top of that, I’ve kind of made it cannon in my au that the kaminoans experimented with different strains to try and keep the base Jango dna from deteriorating so fast. As a result, a lot of batches are just slightly different from each other in hair, eye, and skin color. The best example here being Beetle and Quack who’re from the same batch and both have those blue eyes and a more faded brown color to their hair (Quack was the outlier in his own squad with everything about him being paler in general). Not huge deviations, even I couldn’t justify a way for that to happen in my au (and also it would defeat the purpose of the word clone so naah), so when in a crowd they’re still daum near identical.
That being said! I have managed to collect an entire squad of genetic deviants that absolutely shouldn’t have passed spec and quality control so I am gonna ask you to turn a blind eye to that! I think Racket and D-Caf are the most “clone looking” here if we’re talking actual cannon… Shhhhh it’s fineeeee!
The other thing is way more inconsequential and it’s about their id numbers. For the life of me I have not found any consistent theories about how clone numbers work so I just came up with my own. If you noticed that little number in the middle that’s what we’re talking about!
So! Clone numbers are only four digits long, at what point do those numbers start repeating to accommodate for the vast number of clones in the gar? I am suggesting a secret middle number to keep track. It would act like a person’s middle name and probably not get said outside of a couple circumstances, but would stop the confusion on how the kaminoans kept track of everyone. In my system a “set” of clones would be 9999 strong, a set being those made at roughly the same time, and go from CT-01-0001 to CT-01-9999. Following that it’d roll over to the next set’s number, in this example being CT-02-0001, and just carry on from there. The logic being that there are so many clones that the likelihood that two CT-0001’s probably wouldn’t be deployed to the same battalion/company/legion/etc.

I have a few but clone armor keeps kicking my ass so the only one I have multiple rendered pieces of is my Jedi oc Tuk. Something about her just makes me want to draw her in pretty places with dramatic lighting. I’ve got their story mostly worked out but it’s nowhere on the internet yet. I should probably start working on that! XD
Whirl and Megatron are actually sort of narrative foils for a moment in MTMTE. I think the scene where Whirl attacks Megatron is meant to highlight how similar yet different the two are.
Whirl was forced into violence, and chooses to continue being violent and awful because he thinks nothing can change the way people see him.
Megatron chose violence, did terrible things, yet chooses to atone, because nothing can change the way people see him, but he doesn’t want to continue being violent and awful and putting more pain into the universe.
Its 1AM so feel free to disagree or add something I missed cause my thoughts aren’t all together

Hell yea! They are beautifully intertwined characters and I love that other people are seeing it too!!
Both were violently wronged by the system in place on Cybertron pre war (Whirl getting taken apart and put back together in such a way that he could no longer do what he loved, no more hands no more clocks, and Megs having Trepan digging around in his brain trying to quash the rebellious tendencies he had, thus making it harder for him to write for the rebellion) and both ended up dealing with it in pretty similar ways. Violent and unchecked outbursts.
Hell, Whirl got kicked out of the Wreckers for reckless behavior. Those fools were front line maniacs already how overboard must he have gone to get the boot???
And MTMTE Megs has some insane crimes on his wrap sheet! No matter how much we end up loving him by the end of Lost Light he’s not exactly wrong when he says he probably deserves a worse fate.
There’s also the similar timing of their characters starting to see the light. If I’m remembering right, both their turning points happened pretty closely within the issues (it’s been a little bit and I read it all really close together so this I could be misremembering on this but I doooon’t think I am soooo…) and made some really interesting symmetry. Whirl deciding that sacrificing Tailgate for Gettaway’s plan was a shit move, especially compounded by the fact that Cyclonus came to him for advice just before and basically giving him the, we’re both shit but out everyone here I know you won’t yank my chain speech, was awesome! Even tho he gets soft reset by the amnesia gun his last conscious action was to warn the slow burn idiots that something was going down, and I think that says quite a lot! Then there’s Megs who, upon seeing a quantifiable and very real representation of just how many people’s lives he negatively impacted, basically immediately turns around and decides No! There will be no more! I think it’s then that he also stops running the crew in circles to forestall his trial and mentally accepts any punishment the people of cybertron are going to give him.
To have their arcs so similarly timed seems to me to absolutely be on purpose and I love it to bits and peaces!
Also! I think Whirl’s bad ending (bad in comparison to the open and much more uplifting ending everyone actually likes) and Meg’s good ending are linked as well. Think about it, whether your version of Schrodinger‘s Megatron was imprisoned or put to death, he’s not coming back. But in the bad end, who’s also in jail?? Whirl! And how does Whirl’s bad end go? He’s offered a place to stay the two bots closest to him at the end of Lost Light. Now I might be reaching, I’m not year of the monkey for nothing, but I ask you, is what happens in Meg’s good ending not basically the exact same thing? He gets a place to stay with the people he cares about!
And that’s not even scraping what y’all discussed earlier! On several levels Megatron, as the IDW continuity knows him, would not exist without Whirl!
I love both of these idiots to pieces and I’m so glad others are seeing the things I saw while reading! Anyways, I think I’ve hit my yap allotment for the day, if you read this far, uhhh hi? Thanks for giving me a reason to verbally explode about these guys!
