For anybody not caught up: Tennessee just passed a new map that pretty much makes it so black neighborhoods have no power in local votes. Two things about this. While protestors were chanting "No Jim Crow", white Tennessee lawmakers were caught laughing on video. On top of this, Representative Justin Pearson and his brother KeShaun Pearson were arrested for trying to give their takes on the matter (which is not only their legal right but literally his job). If you give a shit about black people, help fight this. We can't allow a return to Jim Crow.

Additional information: State lawmakers have been gunning for Pearson and Jones nearly their entire terms. Most notably, in 2023, the House expelled them for participating in a protest at the Capitol. Their districts had to have special elections to have them reinstated.
Pearson is one of the plaintiffs of a lawsuit seeking an injunction against the redistricting.
The city most affected by the redistricting is Memphis, where locals are fighting against xAI's data center, which has been operating with very little oversight and is poisoning the people who live there. Here is a previous post on that with more information and more sources.

this is on my blog at least 5 times already but i had to reblog it again, because i was catching up on local news from this morning (mostly following the hīkoi which i sadly couldn't attend bc disability)
and maipi-clarke (the girl starting the haka) spoke briefly on this going viral
she confirmed that the haka in protest was planned, but it wasn't supposed to be her that started it, it was supposed to be the much older and more experienced rawiri waititi (known perhaps most recently for declaring māori independence in response to the new government)
but instead they handed the bill to her. and this is speculation on my part, but given how our current right wing government has been pulling out a lot of dirty tricks lately to avoid māori protests, i wouldn't be surprised if they gave it to the youngest member of parliament (she's only 22), because they figured she would be the least likely to be brave and step up
so i just wanna congratulate her again for sticking to it, they tried to use her inexperience to shut her up and she just went okay, i'm leading this now, and good for her
This morning there was a nation-wide text spam campaign targeting Black Americans (largely students) telling them that they’ve been selected to pick cotton and will be picked up to be sent to a plantation after Trump’s inauguration.
People online are making jokes about it, but it’s genuinely a disturbing sign. Someone was emboldened enough to intentionally run a background on thousands of young Black people and send them racist messages the day after a very exhausting and stressful election.

I spend so much time carefully picking and adjusting the colors in every single drawing I make that I’d probably lose my mind if I didn’t just repeatedly push this out of my memory and pretend it’s not a thing. Why am I reblogging a blank empty post that doesn’t say anything??? Weird
good news! you can’t make sure that everyone will see the correct colors on their own device, but you can make sure your monitor is as accurate as possible for printing and sharing by calibrating it!
there are a bunch of free monitor tests, but here’s an easy one you can use. the passmark and eizo tests are also pretty good, though passmark doesn’t work in your browser. be warned that some tests may cause eye strain.
you can either use the settings built into your monitor itself or use the display color calibration settings in your operating system to adjust the settings until everything looks correct, and then enjoy your accurate colors.

Hi guys!! Another random update because it's been?? A couple years now I think!! So sorry to have disappeared but here's some of what's happened/happening!
Enjoying school, even if I failed some classes for the first time in my life! It's a great place that's really prepping me for professional work!
Finally travelled abroad for the first time ever! Twice now actually! Have finally gotten to visit Scotland and loved it.
Got burnt out because I'm?? Sick? Chronically ill?? Just super overwhelmed?? No fuckin' clue but had anemia for a hot minute, ✨yay✨.
Have gotten into Skyrim, Fallout, werewolves, and BG3 since last update! (And also back into SPN, the good version in my head that's mostly just the first few seasons on loop.)
Sib got a new kitten, so the house is now 4 cats strong (my poor Dad still wants a dog
I miss everyone and I'm sorry I've been so offline! I just honestly have been burnt out from 6hr studio classes and busy summers two years in a row. Planning to update profiles and maybe signatures eventually?

Something like this would be so colossally helpful. I'm sick and tired of trying to research specific clothing from any given culture and being met with either racist stereotypical costumes worn by yt people or ai generated garbage nonsense, and trying to be hyper specific with searches yields fuck all. Like I generally just cannot trust the legitimacy of most search results at this point. It's extremely frustrating. If there are good resources for this then they're buried deep under all the other bullshit, and idk where to start looking.
