the most jarring thing my dad has ever told me is that we’re the new 60’s

when i asked him what he meant he said that he remembered being a kid in the 60’s, he remembered the long hair and the sex and the push against an older, less tolerant generation for freedom. he was born in 1955 so he wasn’t intimately involved in the progressiveness of it but he said he remembered always understanding the younger generation because they spoke to children like him, children that were being raised in restrictive households that were more prone to rebellion. flash forward to our generation and he’s floored, he’s shocked and a little bit scared because he sees the same passion in us, the same struggle and desire for change but this time he’s the older generation. we’re the new 60’s and he’s the establishment we’re trying to change. and it just strikes me how circular this world is, and how every once in a while a certain generation comes around with their radical, progressive agenda. and one day we’re going to wake up in the future and find ourselves face-to-face with a younger, more progressive generation and we’re going to have to decide if we’re still with them or if we’re the new establishment they’re fighting against

Sometimes i think australian stereotypes are dumb but then i remember the time i was at a bus stop and kangaroos hopped across the road just as baby drop bears fell onto a moving car and as my bus got here steve irwin was revived and was the driver with a bus full of crocs and spiders

I’m watching Steve Irwin for old times sake and I can’t help thinking of that alien trope and what they would think of us. I mean I’ve seen posts where the human pets like random aliens like they would puppies but crocodiles are fucking deadly. Like it takes multiple people to hold one down so no one gets mauled in a move.

So I’m just picturing a Steve Irwin but for deadly space animals.

“Crickey, ain’t she a beaut?” said human Steve.

“That zarlidon can literally bite your head off.” I respond.

“Nah, you just gotta give it some respect and know both of your limits.” 

The human was strangely cheery in the face of a beast that inspired nightmares for millennia. There was no trace of “cute” as the humans put it. No fur or softness to it that inspired the need to pet or cuddle. In the face of such creatures even the bularusions of Helian IX were adorable.

No, these creatures were the most feared non-sentient creatures in the galaxy. Perfectly designed to kill in its natural habitat with the ability to adapt quickly in new surroundings. Sleek and powerful, once introduced to the area these creatures easily penetrated into civilizations and wrecked havoc. Unstoppable by any one individual, or even a hundred. There are ruins of civilizations that point their end to such creatures. Even today, with civilizations advanced enough to create technology to fight back, people feared them.

“Literally, they have destroyed civilizations.” I deadpanned. 

“I mean I didn’t say she didn’t have a nasty bite but that’s no reason not to protect her. ” Steve had gone from cheery to serious.

Seriously, married or not I reckon Charlie Weasley would be a riot at family gatherings. Just turning up, throwing Molly a casual “Wotcher Mum! Okay, so there’s this show that I used to be OBSESSED with back in high school and which I’ve recently rediscovered called The Tribe, which is basically set in a post apocalyptic near future where the only survivors of a viral plague are kids who have to learn to survive and cope on their own (sound a little familiar?) There are literally soooooo many parallels to The 100, I could go on for hours, but the real kicker is that there is a blonde girl and a dark haired boy who are basically this show’s answer to Bellarke and idk guys, I just needed to share my feels before I spontaneously combust
