Working on chapter 3! (Ft. beautiful hand model Simon)
Hi all! I decided to relocate my bonus sketches from Oct. 2015 to this blog, instead of hosting them on the main comic tumblr. I hope you enjoy them in their new home!
Boop boop! Having some fun with pixel art.
Expression sheet for character design class.
Hank’s character sheet, for character design class! This was a lot of fun to create!
hey everyone, the comic updated! (have this unrelated lizard wizard. sorry for the hiatus!!)
This is a vulture design (spot illustration) that I made for a class project, but secretly, I was thinking of the messenger bird mounts in the snake empire. Vultures have such a regal, ominous appearance. I’ve been studying color theory lately as well, and it’s really improving my art. Shout out to this tutorial in particular!
This awesome fanart was done by my classmate, as part of a secret santa event we had! Please check out her blog!
Like a heathen, looks like I’m switching mediums again (i joke though. i love exploring different mediums and figuring out how i want to make comics in the future.)
so behold, some pen tests! The first chapter was drawn with a nib pen, the first half of the second chapter was drawn with a brush pen, and the latest page was drawn with a brush. And i went back to my old font. Id love to hear some feedback on what people think.
also there’s some sneaky achewood fanart on the borders. I started reading it today and I’m enjoying the weird tone.
Progress page! I start with 8.5 x 11 inch pencil roughs, which I scan, digitally redo, then print out at 11 x 17 inches. Then I traditionally ink those pages, scan them again, and digitally shade them.
These are some watercolor thumbnails for three environments in Liquid Shell. I’ll be posting the whole process once my teacher hands my work back (I did this for a school project!) Some of the scenes are studies of the scenery and composition of Studio Ghibli films.

Delivery snake and delivery bird are my favorite characters.
A new page!
If you’re wondering why this page isn’t colored, it’s due to time constraints! I’d like to color the whole comic in the future but from this point on I’m going to opt for shading only, except for chapter covers.
look at these nerds
Ch. 2, Page 1
IT BEGINS… AGAIN!
A new page is up!
Unlike the previous chapter, which was inked with a nib pen, this chapter will be inked with a modified watercolor squeeze brush.
This was an experiment where I added exposition to the story, but in the end, I liked the flow of the original pacing better, so I cut this page. Plus, I wanted to see what pure digital inks would look like. For this story, I like the look of traditional inks better (all the other pages are drawn with a nib pen on printer paper). I still want to give digital inks a try though - I just need to practice more!
Ch. 1, Page 14
The real treasure is the friendship forming between these two very different people.
hehehehehe
You really should be reading Liquid Shell because it is cool and fun and… is that watercolor!? I’m lovin’ the art on this.
Hello and thank you rootstudio! The first 16 pages are drawn on printer paper, with a nib pen and acrylic ink, touched up digitally, and then digitally colored in Photoshop!
Here’s some bonus art for my webcomic! It’s acrylic ink, watercolor, and digital colors.
