The cat whispers to Rootkit, quickly rushing to help their mate. Soon after, RootKit is found by PearlClan’s leader, HalfStar, who is about to lose his first life but still quickly takes her back to his newly-founded clan. She’s raised under queen apprentice PodPaw, even if the clan isn’t too fond of accepting so many new orphaned kits in a single moon. She becomes friends with her denmates quite quickly, especially SpearKit (one of the kits of the cat that originally found her!) due to both of them being the weirdos of the clan. While RootKit becomes a healer apprentice under BasilStripe, she never quite gets to communicate with her family when visiting the moonpearl or during visions/signs due to how far away she’s from that territory. BasilStripe does her best to comfort her- the whole clan does their best to comfort her, but they distance themselves from her when she reveals what happened back at hymnClan… except SpearPaw, who’s the mediator apprentice under KiteScar. Sure, that’s a weird backstory to have, but that’s their friend right there!! They can’t abandon her!! Their clanmates start ignoring SpearPaw when they try mediating their fights, and even one of their own siblings, GustPaw, starts bullying them. SpearPaw and RootPaw- now SpearQuake and RootLeaf- decide to act defiantly one night, leaving the clan for a few days… which turn into weeks and moons when they both get lost in a weird place far from the wastelands, doing what they can to survive against unknown creatures. This place is dangerous, but they’ll be fine as long as they stay together! Right?

Yes PearlClan is inspired by Rainworld. Yes SpearQuake’s prefix is inspired by Spearmaster. Their whole design is based around Spearmaster actually LMAO

If I ever make PearlClan into a comic they’re all going to be sparklecats with cool hairstyles and all btw. Maybe I even turn them into sparkle-slugcats so my Rainworld brain is even more content with it.

random thought, do you ever think Sorreltail would have actively made the choice to keep her littermate brothers alive in exchange for the lives of her half brothers (Darkstripe, Ashfur, Graystripe) because the latter were just straight up harmful to her or those she cared about?
not only did Darkstripe try to poison her, but he also participated in the great battle on the side of the Dark Forest and fights her, which definitely contributed to her death shortly afterwards (though i doubt it was just Darkstripe)
Ashfur helped Hawkfrost in his attempt to kill Firestar (though I don't recall if most of the Clan members actually knew that) and threatened "Squirrelflight's" kits. and this happened long after Sorreltail's death, but there was the entirety of TBC that he was more or less responsible for
as for Graystripe, it's obviously not as severe as the other two, but in a less positive view of him, there's the fact that he didn't really train his apprentice at all (Brackenfur) which has to have messed with him somehow. (and i dont think this is something that was ever explicitly stated or even implied in the text, but it's entirely plausible that he just...didn't do anything for two of his kids when they felt neglected by Millie (is Graystripe a good father? the answer is not within the scope of this post))
meanwhile Sootfur and Rainwhisker just sat there hanging out being pretty i guess. not to mention dying in some of the most awful ways imaginable, especially Sootfur
surely there's some kind of resentment towards whatever entity made things end up the way they did right. why are half of her siblings incorrectly morally aligned
