Time is ticking,

To begin. It is a lot harder to finish a project in a week than one would think. Piling life around the project, dishes school laundry grocery shopping. It is no wonder why in attempts to get this done I spent last night awake listening to radio shows while running full speed. 84 years later the hat is mostly done but I am so tired. If it didn’t already make since to me how these projects tend to run: with other projects running simultaneously in case of emergencies like when you run out of fabric unexpectedly or you wreck your loyal machine but apparently have yet to unpack the tool to change the needles. Whilst I would have loved to finish this project I think it shows how hard this is. Logically I know other bloggers like myself work off screen as well as on. I did end up further quilting the denim the day of my migraine as well as yesterday. In a way I am almost thankful for the migraine I cursed Thursday. It pushed me to take better care of myself, this may seem backwards considering I stayed up until eight this morning before pausing for a few hours of sleep. But it also gave me time to further think through my order of operations. Instead of turning a rectangle of the width of the brim into a circle I instead made it into a square, so while I did quilt it further I still kept it simple. So, anyway yes I started my Saturday at noon. But at least I started. I think it’s easy to think simple fixes are going to take forever. Putting away the laundry will take hours but if you hang up one shirt then you’re already getting through it. Watching youtube and reading blogs can be overwhelming. You might feel inadequate seeing people seemingly finishing these huge projects in a week. But as we know the camera might hide 10 days or hours in an hour long video. for every photo or clip that made the cut another lives on the cutting room floor. Off the top of my head I have a few. Some are one shots but are still amazing. All of these are on Ao3. There aren't a lot unfortunately. There are a few more that deal with Caroline telling Klaus about what happened and dealing with the abuse emotionally that I can recommend but these are just the ones that involve Klaus saving her.

TW: all of these fics deal with the abuse that Damon inflicted on Caroline, including rape/sexual assault. Please keep that in mind.

Come here, baby gays, and let me tell you the story about how James Somerton made me so fucking angry with a single line that I had to make this post.

As I now know, most of his audience is young queers and there are things we NEED you to know.

The fight for marriage equality was a massive fucking deal and I will tell you why with a very personal story.

My mom was a nurse during the AIDS crisis. And I mean she started working as a nurse out of school in 85. My mom was on the front lines. She worked with so many AIDS patients that it genuinely altered her brain chemistry. My mother was a homophobe before her nursing career. She was a massive supporter of gay rights until she died in July because of what she saw during her career.

And what did she see?

She saw people who had been abandoned by their families dying with their partners at their side.

And then suddenly…the family would materialize, ban the partner from the room, kick them out of their homes they had lived in with their dying partners for decades, and then watched them ban their partners from even attending the funerals or visiting the graves. Imagine being denied your right to grieve.

And why was this possible? Oh simple. They weren’t married. They weren’t legally bound, the partners weren’t considered next of kin because they weren’t fucking married.

I watched my mom pass. It was horrible and painful and traumatic and terrifying. But it was closure. And I wouldn’t have it any other way because I know…that who my mom wanted by her when she passed was my dad. Because she was scared, she wanted her partner by her side and she was terrified she was going to die. My dad couldn’t be there. He had to work, which sounds cold but understand he had been off work for a month by that point and he was the only one who had health insurance. He wanted to be there, we had made plans to take her off the life support when he came back (we were 4 hours from him) but there was a freak accident and she passed the night after he left to return to work.

Why am I telling you this? Because I need you to understand how important this is to some people. So you can understand how big a slap to the face it is to have people say “marriage equality isn’t that important”. You can understand why someone like James Somerton rolling his eyes at marriage equality and implying we weren’t focused on job equality and discrimination (information that is WHOLEY untrue) would make me see red.

It’s not trivial. It’s not meaningless. It wasn’t about “assimilating” or “appearing normal” (we’re already normal).

It’s about people who had their children taken from them because they weren’t the biological parent. It’s about people who never got to comfort their loved ones in their final days. It’s about people who weren’t able to comforted by their partners in their final days.

So the next time you think “why waste your time on something as trivial as marriage?” Remember my mother. Look up testimony from victims of the AIDS crisis. Remember the people who advocated for marriage equality were the survivors who were torn from the love of their life.

Remember that we advocated so damn hard to give you the right to grieve.

I work in postcolonial USAmerican history (museums in New England, Revolutionary through Victorian) and I constantly find myself correcting tourists who say we "don't have anything as old as in Europe here"

they don't usually mean anything by it; they're just not thinking and often get a bit embarrassed when I gently say "nothing EUROPEAN that's that old." but I will keep saying it until I run out of breath, if necessary

I've lived in Maine my entire life and never knew there was a 4,000+ year old American Stonehenge just a few hours away in Salem, NH. It's a beautifully maintained park, and one of the directional alleys points straight toward my ancestors homeland (Lebanon) 🥰🥰

Roll eyes twice.

Close eyes for five minutes.

I do this every day usually at my halfway point. My migraines went away. My vision go better. Honestly stretching my eyes as she put it feels great too.
