In episode 110 when Gillion is telling Chip & Jay about what the tree said to him about the prophecy. Charlie said that Gillion was having multiple breakdowns where he was just staring into the void, which to me sounds like something that would come about because the Elders would have told him to not show these kinds of emotions because they're a weakness. Like the Elders probably told him that these emotions would show weakness to his enemies, meaning he would have learned how to not show them. Which led to his breakdowns having no visible emotions.
