I’m sorry but has anyone else listened to the audio description over that jail scene?!
Audio description automatically turns on when I watch Netflix on my phone, but stumbling upon it on that scene was insane. Here I wrote down what that scene is like with the shows description; it reads like hastily written fanfiction lol
In the cell, Vi breathes heavily while facing the back wall. She turns as Caitlyn unlocks the door.
“Had a feeling I might find you here” Caitlyn says. Vi leans on the back wall.
“I really believed she’d help. Say it. You told me so. I was an idiot to trust her; I went behind your back. I choose wrong every time. And because of it, I’ve lost everyone.”
Vi holds her neck while Caitlyn stands behind her.
“You really think I need all the guards at the hexgates.” Vi looks up and gasps. Then Caitlyn smiles. “Sorry to say, you’ve grown a bit predictable.”
Vi lunges at Caitlyn and they kiss passionately. They push their bodies against each other and hold one another tightly. Then Vi kisses Caitlyn’s neck.
Vi removes Caitlyn’s jacket and it drops to the floor.
“Uh, listen, while you were gone…I saw someone.”
“Cait, I don’t fucking care.” Vi and Caitlyn hold each others faces and kiss passionately. Caitlyn leans Vi against the wall. Then Vi runs her hands down Caitlyn’s back as she holds her bottom.
Caitlyn removes her top, then steps back and blows her hair from her cheek. Caitlyn unbuttons Vi’s vest, slides it down her shoulders and reveals her tattooed covered back.
Caitlyn looks down and touches a dressing on Vi’s side. Vi grabs her arms and pulls her close. They kiss with their topless bodies touching.
Caitlyn strokes Vi’s chest, then Vi turns and puts Caitlyn against the wall. She unclips Caitlyn’s trousers and they laugh playfully.
Then Caitlyn claws at Vi’s back.
Vi kisses down the front of Caitlyn’s body, and looks up at her while she gets to her knees. Caitlyn closes her eyes and thrusts her head back. Then, slumps forward.
Caitlyn is so supportive of Vi and I think people miss that sometimes. Right before this, you see Caitlyn look over to Vi, sees that Vi is stressing, and reaches out to hold her hand to comfort her. What a woman.
A labyrinth of regret and despair: a defense of Jail Sesbian Lex
The prison cell was only a metaphor for Vi’s own imprisonment in a moment of her lowest mental and emotional state. “Choosing wrong every time.” These are Vi’s word; she thinks her own actions have left her here both literally in prison and metaphorically in an endless cycle of wrong choices. And in that moment she’d accepted that as truth and that she’s the only person responsible for locking herself up in that cyclic prison.
How could she not blame herself? She was the only person who kept choosing to love jinx despite the horrors of her actions. And for what? For jinx to leave her again.
Vi has come to a pretty low point.
And then, Caitlyn unlocks the prison gates and steps into Vi’s metaphorical labyrinth of regret and despair. Caitlyn tells her in no uncertain terms that she supports Vi’s choices by paving the way. Caitlyn steps into Vi’s prison because she knows how to get to Vi, and she holds space for Vi there.
Vi needed that lifeline in that moment, so she took it and saved herself. Her near feral response was just a representation of her very raw state.
“Don’t wait for someone who’s not even sure what they want out of your relationship. Look for someone who finds something new every other day to love about you, even the little annoying things.”
