Hi! My question is: In TLD why John Wants Molly checks Sherlock? Why john truthed molly with this? How the hell they (John and Molly) have become friends? I remenber when Molly presented Jim to Sherlock , that Molly didn't remenber John Name. thanks and Nice day.
Hi Lovely!
Yeah, you know what? Your guess is as good as mine. Like, Molly and John were barely even friends to begin with, and then apparently she was friends enough to be a godparent to Rosie? I suspect that’s on Mary’s part more than anything, really. I always got the impression they didn’t like each other very much but get along for Sherlock’s sake. I imagine they “became friends” sometime between TSo3 and T6T, but again I think that has more to do with Mary (since I do have one of many theories that Molly is also “in” on the villain stories), so that’s the connection there.
Anyway, yeah. Confusing as all hell.
Not all that confusing, really.
Molly was at the Christmas party, and asked about his sister.
Molly was in the lab with John during TRF.
Molly was at the engagement party.
Molly was invited to John’s wedding.
So clearly within the text, they socialize extensively, and Molly has become good enough friends with John, not Mary, that she’s included in the milestone events of his life.
To answer @en-el-sur, John asked Molly to check out Sherlock because 1) she is a medical professional and B. because John knows Molly can see through Sherlock’s blustering and manipulation. Molly obviously is a strong enough presence in both their lives at this point that he’s seen how aware she is and how grounded, and it’s ridiculously clear that Sherlock trusts Molly extensively and intimately (however much that trust may sting.) And he believes that Sherlock is dismissive of Molly, so he’s trying to get one up on Sherlock. But who has Sherlock already called? Yeah.
Molly didn’t remember John’s name seven years (and ten episodes) ago. Molly and John have gotten a bit of time to get to know each other since then.
I agree with everything @theleftpill said. Just wanted to add for @en-el-sur – Molly didn’t know John’s name in The Great Game (lab scene with Jim from IT) because they had never been introduced. How is she suppose to remember his name when they never met? Really, that lab scene is the first time we see these two meet and most of the interaction is done with Sherlock…along with John, btw, defending Molly. Prior to this, Molly and John had only seen each other one time (barely) - when Molly brought Sherlock coffee in ASiP. They weren’t introduced then, either. Heck, at that point, John didn’t even know Sherlock’s name.
Oh, John also thinks of Molly during ASiB to retrieve Irene’s phone, when he thinks Sherlock placed it in a safety deposit box. And, @en-el-sur if you ever read John’s blog and comments, you’ll find he’s quite kind and thoughtful where Molly is concerned and that these two speak outside of Sherlock’s presence.
Sorry, reblogging this for the third time, but I love your fantastic addition to this post too @penelope1730.
