I finished Yumi and the Nightmare Painter this morning and was a crying pile at the ending. Its so fucking good!!!
Recently got employed and decided that my treat to myself would be the graphic audio stormlight and mistborn books, but wanted to test the website out with a smaller purchase first, which is where I decided, on a whim, to experience Yumi and Painter like this as my first experience with them, zero spoilers.
Now I am begging my friends and mutuals to get into this because holy shit. If you are any kind of artist, this book will speak to your soul. In both a lovely and deeply painful way. 1000% worth the read if you wanna feel emotions that cut deep!
I love that deeply insecure wet noodle of a man, the eternally patient and so freaking cute and relatable yumi (I too get overwhelmed and confused by clothing options in a lot of modern stores), Liyun fascinates me so much and I love love love her place in the story and where things go because of her. Akane is so easy to fall in love with, and Izzy, Tojin, and Masaka have stolen a little piece of my heart and I am happy for them to keep it.
I did know going in that this is the Book where Hoid is partial owner of a Ramen restaurant, but the way it works out and every single thing about Design had me cackling.
Its a deeply heartfelt and funny book, inspired by Final Fantasy X and feels like what if Your Name was taken to a fantasy extreme in the best damn way.
Please for the love of everything, read this book if you can!!
