MY TOP 10 TIPS TO TRAVELLING IN INDIA
If you want to visit all the best tourist destinations, get a tour guide! India is full of amazing history, many big temples and forts have very interesting and romantic history to them. (Tour guides will also help you avoid being ripped off… as many locals will try and charge you money to take photos of certain temples).
Bring a travel a travel pillow. You may find that your hotel pillows are not as flash as the western pillows.
Bring toilet paper. LOTS!
Try Indian sweets! Even though you may not know what you’re eating… 99.9% of the time it will taste AMMMAAAZING! (I recommend trying gulab jamun).
Hand sanitiser as a must! If you’re travelling in the less touristy parts of India, many toilets will not have soap to wash your hands… or water!
Buy lots of snacks! If you’re traveling in a tour group you will be doing a lot of walking and will get hungry very easily… especially in the hotter parts of India. I would recommend getting snacks and fruit from the local food stores.
Bring plastic knives and forks. In India people rarely use knives and forks. I found it helpful to have plastic knives and forks to eat curries with.
Visit South India. Although this is not really the typical tourist part of India where most tour companies visit, there is a lot of amazing things to see and food in the South India. I would highly recommend eating as much DOSAs as you can… you will never have a Dosa as good as the ones they make in South India.
Visit markets… especially in Jaipur and Delhi. Shopping in India is NEVER boring. Jaipur I personally found was the best place to shop, particularly if you LOVE happy pants, jewellery and bags!
Go see a Bollywood Movie. Seeing a Bollywood movie in an Indian cinema was honestly one of the BIGGEST highlights for me. They are so so glamorous and so thrilling!
