Occtis seems to be so reactive to mistrust cause he’s used to Thimble and Thaisha not automatically associating him with his family that he expects people who barely know him to automatically do the same. I just hope Occtis learns over time that it’s natural for others who don’t know him as well to expect him to earn their trust and he isn’t special just cause he tells them he doesn’t like his family. Wick knows he had to earn trust. I just wish Occtis did as well.

I feel like I’m crazy for defending Julien sometimes cause I’m thinking back at Occtis’s outburst at Julien. I saw some people praise it but I thought he said some uncalled-for things. Julien was just being logical (cold, but logical) and of course Occtis had every right to refuse and go after Thimble anyway but he also felt the need to say “I’m tired of pretending to care about you” when I don’t think he ever actually did?? And Julien never expected him to care?? Like where the fuck did that come from and why are people praising it? Julien at no point implied he thought people should care about him or even do. That’s why he is the way he is. Thats why he sleeps around and gets drunk and is prickly with people. It’s obviously he doesn’t expect anyone to care about him. He was only saying that Occtis would probably die if he went back in. At no point did he imply that Occtis should care about him. I just think people are blinded by their love for Occtis cause he says terrible shit sometimes and Julien may be cold and curt but he doesn’t deserve some of the backlash he gets. Am I crazy for thinking that???

Why did Thjazi attack Julien when he left Aranessa?? That was a mutual decision. He should know that Julien loves Aranessa as much as him and didn’t want them to split ways either. Fuck this guy, I’m a #1 Julien Defender.

Also I don’t get why Thjazi hates Julien. I get why Julien hates Thjazi. Thjazi betrayed the hospitality of the Davinos and ruined their name. He left Aranessa to fight and lose a rebellion against the Sundered Houses which she was a part of. Julien has every right to hate Thjazi. But it’s silly if Thjazi hates Julien too simply for hating him. He fought for the Sundered Houses cause he’s a vassal of a Sundered House. Julien is fiercely loyal to Aranessa and would die for her. He did not abandon her. He respected her wishes. Either Thjazi is incredibly stupid to want to hurt Julien or he’s a dick and not the great guy everyone takes him for.

I know some people are probably pissed at Julien for not immediately going to help Teor, but to be honest I think Teor was well and truly fucked regardless at that point. The only real question was whether Julien was going to walk into a horde of zombies (and his dead father) or not. How many rounds would it have taken Julien to get to Teor? He's fast but not THAT fast. Brennan probably would have had him roll a d4 again. Even if it was only 1 round, Travis rolled like shit, the dice said it was time for a new character.

I do genuinely believe Julien would have done it if his sister's life wasn't on the line. And in that AU series of events he probably would have showed up downstairs to find Teor and Cyd's corpses surrounded by a sea of zombies and his father. Where he then would have maybe either been smart (ha) and run away immediately to go join Occtis and Thimble in the aviary anyway OR he would have gotten into a fight with his dad. Maybe Julien would kill his dad, then get swarmed by the horde, maybe his dad would get a good blow in first and kill Julien. Maybe Julien would be able to kill his dad then escape. Who knows? Not me! Certainly Brennan wanted to know, he baited the trap well enough lol.

Julien told Occtis and Thimble about the vision he saw as soon as the immediate threat in the Aviary was taken care of. He could have kept it to himself until they were out, but he didn't.

To be brutally honest, the people most responsible for Teor and Cyd being dead (other than Brennan and The Tachonis' obviously lol) are Thimble and Teor himself. Thimble for biting off more than they could chew trying to save the petrified sisters and Teor for listening to her rather than disagreeing and saying they could try to save them another time when their odds were less monumentally fucked. (This shouldn't even need saying but obviously no one should be mean to the actors about it).

I'm sad about Cyd and Teor but this episode was fantastic.

I just can’t get out of my head the fact that julien said if teor dies, it is a soldier’s death, and if thimble dies trying to save him, it’s an example of why the falconer’s rebellion failed

because I think julien is always trying to make the tactical choice. when he’s trying to get occtis to leave, he’s not giving emotional reassurance; he’s telling him the tactical reasons behind why they need to get out when they can. he’s not just being heartless or callous, he’s trying to make the best strategic call. he’ll put himself at risk, but not when it jeopardizes the task at hand.

and why is that? well, as we saw in the flashback, raimond taught him how to do whatever necessary to achieve victory, whether people liked it or not. ‘you will be a booed and living man.’ I think julien has internalized that lesson to an almost damaging degree, and he’s divorced himself enough from any emotion but anger that he can’t really fathom making a choice based solely on feelings. especially not when those feelings put the strategic play in jeopardy.

but at the same time, he so frequently FAILS to make the tactical choice he knows he should. he tries to deny being driven by emotion, because in his mind, that’s why the rebellion failed: acting on emotion, not strategy. but he keeps going back for people. he keeps putting himself in harm’s way when he could run and accomplish his own objectives. he keeps sticking to occtis and the others and he can’t explain why, so he tries to couch it in tactical terms and deny caring.

he’s just such a complex little ball of fucked-up-ness I want to put him in a jar and shake him

okayokayokay there's still so much processing i need to do about everything that was dropped on us in those six hours, but holy fuck we were right about the shadow curse!!

i'm so so excited about what this means for julien's next arc, but for now i actually think what we learned about the curse tells us more about thjazi, because what do you mean he didn't realize julien saved his soul until he read that koral letter??? thjazi had some idea about the tachonis' enslaving souls in the underworld -- at the very least, he knew the underworld was extremely dangerous because of them. so i'm very curious about what his perception of the curse was before he read that letter.

and also... i was genuinely surprised to find out julien getting attacked by shadows in the endless night was thjazi. i thought that combat was more of a coincidence connected to the magic of tannesar, and maybe an attempt to throw the audience off the scent. it does make sense for thjazi's character to do that, but it also speaks to a lack of self-awareness. because, come on thjazi, you're going to attack julien because you don't like that he left aranessa's side??? does anyone else see the irony there??

anyway, i need to learn more about julien's background with thjazi in the next seekers arc! i thought i had a good idea of what their history looks like, but this has thrown me a little and i desperately want to learn more.

Watching C4E28 for the first time so I’m late to the party but Occtis is so dumb for telling Julien not to kill people at his house and not understanding what Julien said that no one was going to be at the house to kill cause they were gathering at the Aurora where Team Spy was going which he gave up on joining to save his sister. He actively chose to prioritise his sister over killing Tachonis right in front him and yet he still stupidly thought to say don’t go killing people even though they wouldn’t be at the house to be killed. Like I get Julien is supposed to be a reckless jerk sometimes but they keep treating him like a reckless jerk even when he’s obviously not being one. Talk about bias man.

Edit: Julien even tried telling Occtis that if he was going to kill Tachonis he would go with Team Spy not with Team Bird Rescue but Occtis just wasn’t understanding.

Also Bolaire is so mean, especially to Vaelus for no reason. I don’t understand his character at all. He does not have the same stakes that everyone else has and yet acts like he’s the only one who cares.

Catching up on episodes and can’t get over the fact that Occtis is so sure that his siblings came to kill him, when they didn’t know he was even still walking about let alone at House Einfasen when he was disguised the whole time. They were there to kill Aranessa and Julien. They were the ones the spy informed the Tachonis about and they wanted to see their houses dead. Like, sorry Occtis but not everything is about you just cause your family betrayed you 😭 I get how painful it must be to be killed by your own family but you also knew that your family didn’t like you from the moment you were born without magic and you were never really close to any them to begin with. They may have used you for a spell but I highly doubt you are their priority right now. And then he lectures Julien about respect cause he’s from a sundered house like bro just seems to be too stuck in his own head to realise that while he may be dead, maybe he does not have it the worst right now.

And then Thaisha and Julien rightly point out that they can’t trust that Vaelus won’t betray them for her god and she reacts as if she did not make her mourning her god central to her character. Like obviously she won’t betray them cause they are a dnd party but that is not something the characters can take at face value.

Call me biassed cause Julien is my fav but it just seems like he and Thaisha are the most logical people at the table.

And before anyone comes at me with the pain that Occtis must be going through, emotions do not automatically make you less logical. High emotion and logic can coexist (I mean, take a look at Julien). Though I will say that I believe that being able to remain logical in high stress situations comes from experience and perhaps Occtis has simply not experienced enough suffering to be able to remain logical while Julien has. And while that is an explanation that allows for understanding, that does not mean I have to like him until he grows more as a person.

Edit 2: If he was referring to believing gods will help you is a sign of low intelligence, I still stand by what I said. If gods are as real as people then he might as well say having faith in other people is a sign of low intelligence which is rather pessimistic and arrogant. Having faith in a god does not mean you expect them to do all the work for you and his thinking is rather black and white/near-sighted.
