First Draft Poem #1
And when I stumble upon you and you make me trip over my words, and make me forget how to inhale, and make my stomach twist in knots, and make me think âPlease, oh god, let him still be there in the morning!â I have to remind myself, âThis boy will not fall in love with you.â Because otherwise in that moment of lightness and excitement, I will allow myself to give you everything. I will pour into you every last bit of myself that I can tap out of my veins. I will care too much, too quickly, and you will leave me. You will not be there in the morning, you will not have fallen in love with me, and Iâll wake up, bled out, torn open wondering how I ever thought youâd stay.Â
âHerr Janosch, who carries the responsibility?â
âWondrak carries the responsibility. And Luise carries Wondrak. For a while. Then Wondrak carries Luise and Luise carries the responsibility.â
Any community seriously concerned with its own freedom has to be concerned about other peoplesâ freedom as well. The victory of oppressed people anywhere in the world is a victory for Black people. Each time one of imperialismâs tentacles is cut off we are closer to liberation [âŠ] Imperialism is an international system of exploitation, and, we, as revolutionaries, need to be internationalists to defeat it.

Justice of the Peace Bill Metzger will not issue licenses to gay or lesbian couples, according to his Facebook page.
Bill Metzger, a justice of the peace in Dallas County, is trying desperately to be the next Kim Davis.Â
In a Facebook post last week, Metzger ranted about how he plans to refuse to marry same-sex couples, even though thatâs technically illegal and those couples would just get married by another person probably in the same office. Because marriage discrimination is illegal now, remember?! He wrote:Â
âAs I said back in June of last year, because of my faith in God as a devout Catholic I will be only be conducting traditional marriages. Recently, I have been asked about my beliefs and stance on traditional marriage. I think it is important to point out that this is the law in Texas per Attorney General Ken Paxtonâs legal interpretation via opinion KG-0025: âJustices of the peace retain religious freedoms, and may claim that the government cannot force them to conduct same-sex wedding ceremonies over their religious objections.â This came as a result of a request from Texas Lt. Governor Dan Patrick. As such, it is not true for someone to say they are required by law to conduct a non-traditional wedding.
General Paxtonâs opinion can be found here: https://www.texasattorneygeneral.gov/opinions/opinions/51paxton/op/2015/kp0025.pdf.
It is clear that any Justice of the Peace in Texas can refuse to perform a non-traditional wedding when that wedding can be performed by others. My sincerely held religious belief keeps me from being forced to conduct anything but a traditional wedding as a Judge per our Attorney General.â
Sigh. I am bored of angry conservatives trying to make a name for themselves by citing their religion as an excuse to sabotage othersâ legal rights. Bored.Â

Everyone lies about writting. They lie about how easy it is or how hard it was. They perpetuate a romantic idea that writting is some beautiful experience that takes place in an architectural room filled with leather novels and chai tea. They talk about their âmorning ritualâ and how they âdress for writtingâ⊠No one tells the truth about writting a book. Authors pretend their stories were always shiny and perfect and just waiting to be written. The truth is, writting is this: hard and boring and ocassionally great, but usually not

The Truth About Microagression.
Microaggressions arenât about how one tiny little comment can destroy someone. Discussing microaggressions isnât about fragility. Microaggressions are about how tiny seemingly innocent comments add up into the perception of who their target is over the course of their lives.Â
Itâs not âSo where are you REALLY from?â itâs about hearing âSo where are you REALLY from?â five thousand times over the course of your life. It plays into the concept that because you donât look/behave/present a specific  way that you inherently donât belong.Â
Itâs about constantly hearing Privilege People taking it upon themselves to correct YOU about YOUR identity and your place in society, even in seemingly innocent ways, over and over again. The reason why this are damaging is because the victim is constantly forced to reassert their identity to themselves and to others and that is an incredibly exhausting process.Â

When thinking about life, remember this: no amount of guilt can change the past, and no amount of anxiety can change the future.

âAnd you tried to change, didnât you? Closed your mouth more. Tried to be softer, prettier, less volatile, less awake⊠You canât make homes out of human beings. Someone should have already told you that. And if he wants to leave, then let him leave. You are terrifying, and strange, and beautiful. Something not everyone knows how to love.â

Whether itâs a boo-boo or a fuck-up, no one is immune from making mistakes. But mistakes can be conversation starters, not conversation enders. Mistakes not only make us smarter, they can make feminists better feminists. The road to intersectionality begins in the mirror.
