Once upon a time, there lived a Knight who was sworn to a great king of old. A more loyal man you would never find; for the king whom he served had not only his sword, but his heart.
Ever since they were boys, the Knight and the King had been the closest of friends. In truth, they both held a deep love for one another—but neither dared say it aloud. They each had their own obligations, their own duties; it was not to be, no matter how much they desired it. Even still, both men were happy as they were. To be by one another's side was enough.
Alas, fate had other plans for the good King. When a mighty dragon beset the kingdom, the King rode out alongside his loyal Knight to slay it. And though they were successful in their endeavor, the King was not so fortunate as to escape unscathed. The dragon had wounded him, and he was not long for this world. No mortal man could hope to heal such a deadly blow. But the Knight was not yet willing to part ways.
And so, the Knight begged the Queen of Fairy to save his beloved King.
Said the Fairy Queen, "I will save him. But the cost of a life is steep, Good Knight. In exchange, you must offer me your own. You will be bound to my service. Your name and your soul shall belong to me. And only when you have paid off your debt will your beloved King awaken."
"Then I shall pay your price. So long as I may walk by his side again. My life, my soul, my blood and my blade are yours if it means saving him. I will work for a thousand lifetimes if that is what it will take."
The Knight, they say, still walks the fields of Galar. Clad in armor of bark and thorns and adorned with roses, he is the Fairy Queen's most loyal servant. He is unflinching and unquestioning; by his hand, her work is swiftly done. And though his name is no longer his own and his story is lost to time, the Knight will continue to serve. However long it takes. Until his debt is paid.
Until the day he may once again be reunited with his beloved King.
