......Gonna throw a hot (possible lukewarm) take out there
Why are ppl saying Shidou is infantilizing Amane when she's....literally a child herself? Yeah, Shidou has a very idealistic way of how children should be, but he's not treating her in the malicious or intentionally condescending sense
Amane is 12. By age, she is still a child. Shidou’s instincts are parental/protective, because he is used to children in his life + loves children
He wants to teach, guide, and protect, not belittle.
So from his perspective, he’s not infantilizing her. He’s acting exactly how he would with any young person. He just is emotionally naive. He most likely grew up sheltered and idealistic. It's why Amane's extreme trauma is something so....fundamentally out of his depth, when Amane's worldview has been warped by abuse and indoctrination.
He treats her like a “normal kid” because he literally cannot comprehend her upbringing, which is extreme and horrific.
In his eyes, he assumes that children are innocent, pliable, and understandable, and doesn’t realize that Amane’s trauma has made her far more complex than a “normal 12-year-old.”
His approach fails because he doesn’t see her as fully autonomous, but that’s because he literally cannot imagine the degree of her trauma, not because he wants to control her.
Amane *doesn't* want to be treated like a child, and sees herself as capable and morally aware (most likely due to her cult training and trauma). I could honestly go into why her and Fuuta's relationship is so interesting because of this, but that's another post for another time. When Shidou treats her like a normal child, offering guidance, calling her tantrums, or saying he doesn’t understand, she interprets it as condescension. Even though his intent is purely protective.
Shidou is obliviously over-parental, not maliciously treating her like she has no autonomy.
The effect might feel infantilizing to Amane (and to the audience), but it’s a result of ignorance and idealism, not cruelty or condescension
I love how she's just leeching off of Haruka and she's just entered a new hourglass of self-pity.
Because the pain of her victim wasn't getting her anywhere anymore. So, she just discarded it as irrelevant entirely.
She simply needed a new sob story to attach herself to and capitalize off of that no one could poke holes in this time because she wasn't on trial for it. Haruka provided a really convenient way of getting one and she used it to the best of her abilities.
"That baby, what he was feeling as he died, you have no idea, do you? Enough already I’ll take on the role of villain, I just want you to apologize to him. Cuz you’re the one who killed him, I judge you as GUILTY. It’s not that baby’s fault."
She'll probably be milking this one as far as it can get her from here on out.
"I changed……I'm……useful now……"
I'm glad we finally got the answer to what he meant by this even if it had to be discovered in this way. Surely, he'll be useful to Mu for years to come as her constant supply of self-pity and vindication. As this instance to point to in order to say see you're just as bad as I am. I don't think it was worth it but to Haruka who never received love or help from the people closest to him, who could seemingly never do anything right in the eyes of others, this was probably the only way he could see himself doing right by at least one person.
And that's really the sad thing here. Not whatever that performance was. I mean really-
Heyy!! So I recently picked up Amnesia: Memories again, after playing all routes a decade (!) ago. Being completely honest, I became addicted to your headcanons!! Sorry if I'm being invasive, but are you taking requests rn?
Hello, tysm! I'm so happy you like my writing!
Unfortunately, I don't take requests, nor do I see myself taking them in the foreseeable future. I just write whatever ideas come to mind when I feel like it <3
I feel really bad for the Milgram fans that joined near the end of/after T2
Sure, there were atrocious takes in the very beginning of the fandom, but we felt like we had (quote unquote) 'more power'. Nothing was set in stone (yet), the mental states of these prisoners didn't change (yet), and things were a lot more vague. Ofc now this isn't the case, but it felt like we had more leeway for interpreting things + didn't expect things to get this out of hand. Now that cooldown session is done, T2 showed us that, yes, things can get really out of hand. Any pairing of verdicts would've resulted in disaster, so any hand would've left like a losing battle. Still, we thought we could still change things around and clean up some mess by meta voting
Nope
While meta voting being a 'bad' thing is a debate in of itself, the fans in T1 still had a 'template' to think about how they would vote. Now that the fandom got bigger and more fans are pouring in without the 'tutorial' that was T1, we're just tossed into the bucket fuck that's end of T2/beginning of T3. No T1 to hold our hand, no T1 leeway, no voting without pre existing consequences, just....voting in an already chaotic mess
I just want to apologize for the “Haruka bday timeline” I posted yesterday. I saw that on twitter, and I didn’t know it was an edit + not a real one. I didn’t read the full tweet, and got too excited about it when I first saw it. I’m sincerely really sorry about that/gen
(No Will, we won't listen to your cover of ROKI. Maybe later)
Yuno's scene in Undercover wasn't where she died, but when the crime took place. Or, more specifically, when the report ended. because while the fetus died, but Yuno survived, her report ended with "Save data from the point where the subject resumes normal life post regaining consciousness". Meaning there was a gap between her crime, and when she was sent to Milgram
Her VD translation, as said in my previous post, is a bit janky. She says that after she was hospitalized, she resumed studying/going abt daily life. But she also said that her last memory was being discharged, hence why she thought Milgram was the afterlife. Someone on twitter said that she has 'hazy memories' of studying after being hospitalized, but being discharged is what she ultimately remembers before Milgram. Either way, Yuno had memories after her crime. The report doesn't go into detail abt it because that's when the crime ended
The report doesn't care abt the prisoners. It cares abt the build up + the crime itself
HOWEVER
As said in my "Purgatory still holds up" theory, there is a chance that Yuno still killed herself after she resumed normal life. Now, this is ultimately the staircase that she fell off of, thus killing the fetus. BUT, there is a possibility she went back here and committed suicide. And that is what ultimately brought her to Milgram
We don't know what she did when she resumed her daily life until she was placed in Milgram. But it is noteworthy that she got a 'gap', while Haruka didn't, since his data was saved to the following day
This is Haruka's scene in Undercover. If he parallel's Yuno, this is where his crime took place. The report states that he killed the girl in a fireworks festival. Sure, he took her far away enough to hide her body, but I highly doubt he took her to his bedroom. That is his bedroom, right? It matches the one in Weakness. That is his bunny plushie. If we are made to believe
The scenes in undercover represent where the crime took place
Haruka's scene is his own bedroom
The reports end when the crime is done
Haruka's report ends with saying he was strangling a second kid
Haruka doesn't have siblings, and I highly doubt his parents invited another kid to his house (and, on the off chance they did, why didn't the report mention this? The same report that gave build up to his crime). Either he was truly strangling himself, or that 'second kid' is his fucking stuffed rabbit
And just more evidence for the scenes in undercover being where the crimes occurred
Fuuta is taking a picture of a house. There is a lantern outside, specifically a lantern used in Japanese funerals. Probably leaked too much personal info abt the girl, which was the post that ultimately led her to kill herself
Kotoko walking in an alleyway. Simple enough, she is most likely going to kill her next criminal
Mikoto is crashed out on his desk, with work scattered. His case is still tricky, there are theories that he was the actual murderer, not John. But this could've ultimately been the breaking point that lead to him killing his boss. This could be his work desk during a late night at the company and NOT his own house
I assume this when Amane killed her mother. Not much to say, since it's just a body on the ground. But it is raining, same weather during parts of TPM. So there's that. Amane's mother is dead, not Amane, so could their victim's bodies also be blacked out?
A girl on the ground at Muu's school. Again, this is where/when the crime occurs, and not necessarily the prisoners' death. But again, the victim's bodies could be blacked out too. This could be Rei herself, as this doesn't show the face/hair silhouette. Though, Muu was seen killing Rei outside of school, so who knows
Shidou with medical equipment. Could be ready to dissect another braindead patient. I assume he's feeling a little distraught
Ah, the double suicide theory. How romantic for Mahiru. In I Love You, her bf was shown hanging, but we don't know exactly where. However, they were walking in a forest before the bf collapsed to his knees. We see some plant shadows on the side, so perhaps he took his life in a forest?
And yeah, I didn't include Kazui, cause I honestly had nothing/no idea for his scene. Cause I doubt Hinako just...fell over and died as soon as he came out to her
Yuno's report ends with "Save data from the point where the subject resumes normal life post regaining consciousness"
Haruka's report ends with "Save data as the dawn of the following day"
Someone on twt (shoutout to my oomf, Angie <3) said that 'to Milgram' doesn't matter, since that's simply where the information was saved to. Take out the 'to milgram' portion, and that's the events that happened before, during, after the murder
So why is Yuno and Haruka's endings different? Why was Yuno able to resume going back to a normal life (for a while(?)) until she was placed in Milgram? In her VD, the translation is a bit janky. She said that after she was hospitalized, she went back to studying (or resuming her daily life), but she also said her last memory was being discharged from the hospital. There was clearly a gap between falling down the stairs and being placed in Milgram. The report says she's survived the fall, but she went about her normal life after that until Milgram took her
So Milgram suddenly took Yuno one day? Days, weeks, months, even years after her miscarriage???
It's very clear Yuno is suicidal and suffers from a lot of self depreciation. Once again, the report says she survived the fall, but who is to say she's alive now? Esp considering she felt an immense amount of guilt losing the baby, it could've exacerbated her suicidal ideation. She could've just....tried again, succeeded, and her death is ultimately what finally landed her in Milgram?
Now for Haruka. His is more straight forward, as he was taken the dawn of the following day. Meaning, when he strangled the second kid, he was taken what would've been 'tomorrow morning'. There was no gap for him. If 'being dead' is ultimately what 'brings' someone to Milgram, then Haruka's second victim could very likely still be himself. As he committed suicide the next day, early morning
Scientifically speaking, you cannot strangle yourself. Simple; Haruka failed to strangle himself and then tried again w/ a different method, being successful
"He repented and clawed at his chest"
"When he came to, he was strangling the next of a second child"
I'm sorry, I will never get over the fact out of all the things this descriptive, clinical report included, they included him specifically clawing at his chest
TDLR: Purgatory theory still holds up! May have to wait for Fuuta's, or even Muu's, MV to make a solid conclusion though
I can’t stop thinking about how this is the girl they chose to put in Milgram. Not her sugar daddy. But Yuno. The girl who had autonomy over her body, and then got framed as the "murderer" in literal torture judgment hell because she “didn’t feel bad enough.”
The thing that cuts deepest, maybe, is how familiar that kind of numbness is. The detachment. The going through the motions. I got pregnant when I was 20. Again at 22. Both times I was scared. Both times I thought about abortion. I didn’t go through with it—more out of fear and confusion. I kept my kids. I love them. But let me be clear: that doesn’t mean I didn’t want an out. It doesn’t mean I didn’t spend nights wondering if I’d just destroyed my life because how tf will I turn in my paper due on Friday while juggling a kid
Which is why seeing Yuno’s story hurt so much. Obviously not bc she’s a bad person, but bc the way her arc was framed made me feel like the whole message was she should have felt guilty. That her lack of guilt made her worthy of judgment. Which is really, just flat out dumb, imho. Milgram was never about teaching anyone a lesson. Like literally, what made ppl think we could undo Amane's 12 years of brainwashing with three trials? It's about whether we personally forgive them or not. Yet, apparently Yuno learned 'the value of what she stole' because Mahiru, who has her own world view skewed + believes in amatonormativity, taught her? Bc Mahiru wanted children, but Yuno didn't, now Yuno should feel bad?
From what we know, Yuno took precautions. She used protection. She wasn't struggling finanically or anything, she got into sex work bc she didn't really give a fuck about *checks notes* the ethics of sexuality??? What exactly is the crime here? That she had sex? That she wanted to feel something in a world that was numbing her? That she lived? That she survived?
MILGRAM is supposed to be about people that did horrible things, but we think abt forgiving them or not based on their circumstances + thoughts. It's about choices. But this doesn’t feel like a choice. It feels like a warning. Ever since T2, when Yuno's VA even said she is certain that she'll be voted guilty this time, and now they're still trying to push us to disagree with her choices
Because I’ll tell you this. If I’d made a different choice back then, if I hadn’t kept my kids, I don’t think I would’ve felt grief the way people expect. I think I would’ve felt shame and guilt at all. This isn't to say I regret my kids. But I'm saying 20 year old me, literally only two years older than Yuno, had the right to do whatever we wanted with our bodies. And honestly, maybe I wouldn’t have cried either. But my actions didn't hurt someone. Even the indirect murderers, Mahiru, Fuuta, Kazui....sure, by our standards they didn't actually kill someone. But they aren't free of sin. Mahiru was a toxic partner, Fuuta doxxed someone, Kazui acted selfishly and ruined Hinako's life, etc.
I don't have a problem with Yuno herself feeling remorse. I know some friends that experienced miscarriages and still felt guilty, even if they didn't want the baby. My problem is that the message telling us Yuno should be ashamed of herself
Okay, since ppl are torn over Yuno flat out saying she has an abortion vs the report stating she loss consciousness and fell down the stairs, I have to ask
Was Yuno’s abortion “a mistake”?
Yes, she accidentally fell down the stairs
No, she flat out confirms it was an abortion
She was thinking abt it, but didn’t voluntarily go through w/ it
She was thinking abt it then threw herself down the stairs
