Sometimes perspective happens.
I've often found myself annoyed how often in fantasy books/ttrpg's that worldbuild things, like names of the months, more often than not said month names keep being pretty much just gibberish fancy fantasy words with no actual real life meaning. And I could never wrap my head around why would anyone choose to make it that way.
"Oh, that's just how elves called them, and we adopted the elvish words as is."
And I kept wondering why is that so popular thing to do. Those are so much harder to remember than actual month names! Like why would you make the lives of your readers/players so much harder by forcing them to remember something they have no intuitive context for?
It took me embarassingly long time to realize that in english, months really are named basically gibberish, because the original names were Latin. Because Romans.
And it's just another case of "wow, Finnish really is a fantasy language isn't it, no wonder Tolkien built elvish on it huh".
For reference, Finnish months and their literal translations by yours truly (there's zero emperor names nor Latin numbering!):
Tammikuu = Oak moon (though I read that "tammi" originally meant heart wood or core wood before being stabilized as the word for oak specifically)
Helmikuu = Pearl moon (probably referring to pearls of ice)
Maaliskuu = Earthy moon (ish. From maa meaning earth/dirt/ground. Because this is the month when the snow traditionally used to melt and reveal patches of ground underneath. Like the old saying "maaliskuu maata näyttää", meaning "Earthy moon shows the ground")
Huhtikuu = Cleared woodland moon (from huhta, which was an old form of farming by chopping a patch of forest and burning it to form fertile field land)
Toukokuu = Spring sowing moon (self explanatory. The time of the spring when you sow your fields)
Kesäkuu = Summer moon (though apparently the word itself comes from kesanto, or a field left unplanted for a year, as the old timey word for summer was instead suvi, but in modern Finnish kesä is very much the word for summer)
Heinäkuu = Hay moon (I think this is when you're supposed to reap the hay)
Elokuu = Harvest moon (though elo can also be poetic way of saying "life")
Syyskuu = Autumn moon (another obvious one)
Lokakuu = Mud moon (also sludge moon or dirt moon. We have rainy autumns)
Marraskuu = Death moon (really old timey word meaning death or a dead person, or a spirit of a dead person, or an omen of death, not really in use in modern Finnish)
Joulukuu = Yule moon
Kuu is literally the Finnish word for Moon, as in the rock in the orbit around the planet, but also month, because that's how months were originally measured.
For some reason I never realized that months being named for things that happen during the months and being a helpful way of memorizing the yearly cycles would be an outlier.
Yet more evidence of Finns actually being forest elves.

No, friendship is NOT about “supporting your friends even when you know they’re wrong.”
That’s not friendship. That’s being an enabler. That’s being an accomplice.
Friendship is loving someone enough to tell them to stop being a goddamn idiot before they ruin their lives.

@xkcd-for-that have you done this one yet?
It's like someone briefly joined the team running the universe, introduced their idea for a cool mechanic, then left, and now everyone is stuck pretending that this wildly unbalanced dynamic makes sense.
cats are such decadent little beasts like look at this thang
