One thing that really gets to me about Dean an Benny’s “relationship” is that DEAN is the one who abandons and lets BENNY down as soon as the association no longer benefits Dean, which is what Dean does throughout the entire show.  He runs and throws temper tantrums when he is forced to engage in critical thinking or introspection.  I do not really count purgatory as having a close bond because it was just a survival situation and Dean cuts him off to fend for himself in an unfamiliar world once they get back to Earth.  

Dean also gets really upset at Sam for “leaving” him in purgatory, but Sam thought his brother was dead.  Dean, on the other hand knew that Castiel was stuck in purgatory and did nothing to get him back and then acted annoyed and personally offended that he somehow got out.

Then you realize they just want this to lead to some big teary reconcillation to make the romance more poignant.

I found a work once where Dean came to the conclusion that everyone would be better off without him, and I think the reader was supposed to feel sorry for him or something.  The whole time I kept thinking he was absolutely right about his conclusion and wondered when he was ever going to get a life.  It never happened.

Another Bobby Critical.  To add insult to injury, she then had a bad experience with dating (Crowley), and her reaction was to become a good little Christian girl.  Let her have some fun without The Woman Learning Her Lesson About The Dangers Of Making Her Own Decisions.  Is that too much to ask? 

About Bobby, I was never sold on him, but one thing that really got to me was the fact that he treated Castiel as if his only purpose in life was to heal his back and then say that Castiel did not have any right to complain because Castiel was not the one in a wheelchair.  It could be argued that Castiel was repeatedly disabled and was not allowed to be upset about it because it was treated like a human losing superpowers rather than senses or limbs (wings).  There is nothing wrong with being disabled (disabled person here), but I can imagine it is a shock requiring some adjustment especially if it happened later in life.  

Then there was poor Karen Singer, who apparently married Bobby with the understanding that he would give her children, only to have her husband say after the wedding had already happened that he was too “damaged” to hold up his end of the bargain.  He was also under the impression that everything was wonderful before that but I doubt it.  She looked really young so they cannot have known each other as well as they thought they did.

To clarify:

Epic: no, by deans own words "their marriage wasnt perfect until she died", John and mary canonically fought and John is shown passed out drunk in front of the tv in the fucking pilot.

Untold: we literally know everything there is to know about them. We already know plenty more than necessary. We know how they met, we know about both of their families, we know their backstories, we know about the Deal with azazel,.... literally what is untold???

Love story: they were canonically brought together by a cupid and i remember them saying that they literally couldnt stand each other before the cupid worked its magic, sooo..... take that as you will...

Cupid even mentioned that they had to try extra hard with the parents than they had to with other couples.  There was nothing romantic about it.  They were bred like prized horses whose only purpose was to produce Sam and Dean.  They were practically SAed by heaven.  

They knew each other for a little over ten years during which time John did not even really know Mary.  It was a post war young love situation held together by the tragic deaths of Mary’s parents.  I firmly believe that the wedding was a save-the-relationship ceremony and that Sam and Dean were save-the-marriage babies.

The Offensive Humanization of Castiel

A profound bond? 

I miss the early days of Castiel when Castiel would treat Dean like the lower life form he really is.  

Personally I found it much more respectful when Castiel was referred to in fearful whispers as an “it.” It is an entity that happened to occupy a human man.  If I were brave enough, I would probably use “it” IRL.  

Its true form is something Dean has never seen.  Its true voice is something Dean has never heard.  In other words Dean has only ever met Castiel’s masked self.  

Dean has never seen Castiel as anything other than a human man with superpowers he can exploit.  This made me uncomfortable as an autistic person with what I call internalized capitalism/ableism.  

Dean has never shown any interest in learning about angels: Castiel’s family, Enochian, angel politics, angel culture.  

The few times Dean is forced to confront the notion of Castiel as not human, he fails spectacularly and responds with bigotry and prejudice.  

I found the time when Dean tried to get Castiel to sleep with someone to be deeply uncomfortable as a sex-repulsed asexual.  It seemed more like corrective rape than a nice bonding experience.  

I found the notion that Castiel needed Dean to fix it personality wise offensive as an autistic person.  

Castiel has never referred to itself as “Cas,” but has voluntarily used Clarence as an alias.  

It is canon that gender does not matter to “Meg.” Perhaps name does not either.  

Megstiel, therefore is not a straight pairing.
