The strategic advantages of the US' current war in Iran
I crunched the numbers, and the strategic advantages for the US of picking this fight are: None. I do not think all wars are stupid or unjustified. But I do think this war is stupid and unjustified.
Generally, when I see armed conflict with the US at the forefront, I try to see what the strategic advantage is, stated or unstated.
I’ve had to shift that approach for the current administration, because the math just doesn’t math there. I started a new approach after we attacked Venezuela: follow the money, specifically the money pouring into the Trump family coffers. For the Trump administration, that means in particular follow where Jared is getting money from. And that means the Gulf states and Israel.
Since the inauguration, UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar have poured more than 3.5 billion into Jared Kushner’s private equity fund Affinity Partners. Another 2 billion in stable coin assets have been issued by World Liberty Financial (Trump’s crypto company), after getting the backing by UAE. The Paramount acquisition of HBO/Discovery/Warner Brothers was funded by Kushner’s Affinity Partners…and the sovereign wealth funds of Saudi Arabia, Abu Dhabi, and Qatar. And let’s not forget our favorite white elephant, the Qatari 747 that Trump is refitting as an his own Air Force One….that he plans on taking with him when he leaves the White House. There have also been several large billion dollar acquisitions by Gulf States of US based companies with not a peep of oversights (the buying of EA games for example).
Let’s look at a few real estate deals that have occurred since the inauguration.
-A $500 million resort in Oman with Dar Global (a subsidiary of Saudi Arabia's Dar Al Arkan) and Omran, an Omani government-owned group
-A $531 million Trump Tower in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia with Dar Global
-A planned second tower in Riyadh
-A Trump International Hotel & Tower in Dubai, announced in May 2025
Just before Trump's Gulf trip, Dar Global and Qatari Diar (part of Qatar's sovereign wealth fund) announced a Trump-branded resort in Qatar valued at $5.5 billion. And, we keep getting the hints of pitches from Kushner about the development of the Gaza Bank.
The Saudi Public Investment Fund, the single biggest investor in LIV Golf, has played four tournaments in a row at the Trump family's Doral golf course in Florida.
Are you missing out on the Israel ties? Don’t worry, there are plenty that don’t involve the Gaza Strip. The 87 story hotel “Sarona” in Tel Aviv, which is under development, is likely going to be Trump-family managed and branded, due to deals between Eric Trump and the Israelis. And in case you didn’t hear about it over the last week, Eric Trump just did a 1.5 billion dollar deal to merge XTrend, an Israeli drone company, and a Florida based construction company (JFB), notably completed a couple days before we started firing on Iran.
Those things aren’t even an exhaustive list. It took me five minutes of googling. Think of what we aren’t seeing.
So what do I think the strategic advantage is of us attacking Iran right this minute?
None, whatsoever. We will continue to gloss over the fact that the unprecedented strikes against Iran last July were supposed to have totally destroyed Iran’s nuclear program (ha. Ha.) There have even been reports from within the administration that say there was no imminent threat against Americans presented to the Pentagon or to Congress, leaving the justification as…🤷♀️
Sometimes they say regime change. Sometimes they say to prevent a threat. All are vague on details, or even actual objectives writ large.
During this entire century, the creep of the executive branch to seize power has moved forward. What had been a brisk walk or slight jog has become an F1 race with this administration, and that’s part of what’s going on here. I believe that Trump has decided the US military is his own personal mercenary force, rentable by anyone willing to drop to their knees for him, with hands upraised and full of cash.
Again, what does provide serve for the American people? Nothing. Nothing at all.
It provides:
-the 10 millionth strike of the “seize power” blitzkrieg that started at the inauguration in 2024
-distraction from the Epstein files
-distraction from the most abysmal approval numbers ever recorded for a US president
-distraction from the complete lack of progress on the issues that many people who voted these people into power claimed they wanted: lowering of the prices of groceries, gas, and general cost of living
-exactly what those bribing this executive want: the Emiratis, Saudis, and Israel want Iran off the table, and for the US taxpayers to foot the bill.
So now here we are, at the part that we generally do well at: initial shock and awe attacks (although this time there have already been several US military deaths, casualties, and materiel losses that are shocking for an attack that occurred completely on our own timeline, which I see as a sign of what happens when you fire all the people who care about doing things well, and replace them with sycophants. Amazing that we’ve reached this stage of Stalinism so quickly; hopefully the famines aren’t next). Next comes the part that we do NOT do well at, or haven’t since Germany and Japan after world war II: nation building.
Of note is the fact that Trump continues to tell the Iranian people to take back their power. These directives would have been far more efficiently communicated if we hadn’t gotten rid of all the soft power last year. In this case, Radio Free America could have been great at communicating messaging. But we canned it. So now we have the ramblings of a non-statesman in a statesman role, with no true directives.
So at this point, this is what I’m expecting:
-Terror attacks and cyber attacks from Iran. The Ayatollah was 86 and they undoubtedly had a plan for how power would transfer after he was gone; that plan is already in place.
-The fraying of the “coalition” that Trump took into this, namely the gulf states and Israel. They are taking heavy fire they didn’t seem to expect, and most of those countries aren’t accustomed to anything harder than deciding which luxury vehicle to have their slaves polish today. (Like I told some friends today, the Gulf states are about to learn one of my favorite maxims: Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth)
-Normally I think we’d be competent at handling the power vacuum we were about to set up, at least initially, but in this case…we aren’t doing it at all, since we are being led by amateurs who think state building, diplomacy and soft power are “woke”. So I assume adversaries are going to capitalize on that, and either we end up with a state in Iran we can’t control because it was facilitated by someone with cooler heads, or Iran descends into civil war and insurgency (very likely, IMHO), and pulls the rest of the region and us into it.
Also, we are rapidly depleting our weapons reserves, and that takes time to rebuild. None of this looks good from where I sit.
I didn’t believe these people when they said they were the “No More Wars” administration, and guess what. They aren’t. They’re just more blatantly stupid and corrupt this time. I am so angry that we are drawn back into ANOTHER middle eastern war, and they don’t even care enough to make the pitch to us plausible at all this time. I’m angry that the money that should go to our infrastructure is going to this, that American servicemember’s lives are being lost to this, and that it once again deceives what our country should represent.
Communicate with your lawmakers, look at how they are responding, and learn the lessons. Trump is not supposed to be able to declare war without Congressional approval, and though many of them are hopelessly corrupt and don’t care as long as they get theirs…you should still speak up. AND VOTE AGAINST THIS IN NOVEMBER.
Also, I’m sure that that Nobel Peace Prize will be here any minute now.
