ICT as a Platform for Change
1. What advantages does the creation of social media offer citizens developing countries?
Answer: Social media helps bring access to information to anyone who can see it. In developing countries, this means that people in rural areas, or with little access to services can now obtain educational, mobile health and financial services in ways that were impossible before mobile technology and the spread of social media. Social media is being used to expose corruption and help root it out. One important player is the websites āiReportā where individuals can provide the details of bribes they gave and the officials who took them.
2. Should international policymakers and organizations concerned with economic development and human rights embrace social media as tools for achieving those ends? How should social media fit into the broader context of ICT?
Answer: Yes, Social media is growing platform that provide various kind of communication and connections to people. It can fit into the broader context of ICT because social media are the media for social interaction. The two most visible applications of social media are the building and consolidation of friendships among youngsters, and the building of networks for career development.
WHY CHOOSE STEM STRAND?
Choosing the STEM track opens the door to many possibilities for successful and fruitful careers especially after pursuing further education. Typically preparing senior high students for future studies and rigorous examinations to practice their profession. STEM graduates are essential to growing some of the most sought-after and in-demand industries. Graduates of the STEM strand and their various tracks are involved in integral industries that keep the nation going. By undertaking their courses, students acquire unique skill sets that equip them to be the doctors, engineers, economists and scientists of tomorrow.
STEM education prioritizes collaboration and teamwork in its syllabus to teach to kids the importance of communication and leadership towards achieving common goals. Communication skills are perhaps the most important of all life skills. Having the ability to discuss and convey complex concepts to others while also learning from one another will be the key to achieving success in a childās life as they grow up. Group activities in STEM promote sociable skills like active listening, open-mindedness, and open them up to giving and receiving constructive feedback. The kind of material offered in a STEM education is focused on engaging kids in critical thinking.
Critical thinking is the process of actively conceptualizing, applying, analyzing, and evaluating information through observation, experience, reflection, reasoning or communication. As such, students will be encouraged to answer questions or solve problems not based on memorization but based on actively engaging with the material to understand the issue at hand and solve it using logic. These kinds of situations better reflect what is expected of them in the workplace ā experiencing situations like this early in their education will better prepare them for their futures. When engaged in STEM subjects, students can develop and strengthen their cognitive skills and learn the basics of coding and engineering in primary schools. This approach will develop kidsā cognitive abilities and aid them in the speed and quality of their problem-solving skills.
