My therapist just told me my problem is that I need to write more fanfiction.

This sounds fake but the logic behind it is actually really interesting? She said obsession with a new fandom triggers quick dopamine release when we consume all this related content--it's easy and addictive.

What we're NOT getting is that 'slow dopamine' that's more sustainable and engaging. That's the kind we get from DOING things that take effort but are ultimately rewarding.

So like, she suggested that writing fic and making fanart are ways to balance the quick dopamine of watching a show/reading fic with the slow dopamine of working at something that takes effort.

Moral of the story is you should engage in the process of creation around your favorite things. You'll feel better for it.

Something funny about writing and sometimes drawing humans with cars is size proportions

Pretty much the entire cast would have at least a couple dozen to a few hundred pounds on any human character, but my 5'2 ass can see over the roof of a sedan, those guys are SHORT

So you have these vehicles that take up much more space and typically weigh more than a human, but the average human stands taller and can see and reach higher than a majority of the main cast

It's so funny to think about but also makes remembering proportions difficult

OH MY GOD I HAVE SO MUCH TO SAY ABOUT THIS BECAUSE IVE BEEN SAYING THIS FOR YEARS FINN IS A SOCIAL BUTTERFLY WHO WILL BEFRIEND LITERALLY EVERYONE

Even the crabbing boat in the beginning was calling him “buddy” and was like down for the ride out to the middle of the fucking Pacific Ocean like what??? They clearly had a rapport going so I’m counting him as a guy Finn befriended.

It’s the same with Mater. Finn just met him and he’s already decided he likes this guy. He’s throwing on the charm and million dollar smiles. Like come on, Finn, get a grip.

Sid and Finn sound like they go back several years. “Thanks old boy!” “You got it mate!” Like oh my god. Besties vibes all the way. And Siddeley knows Finn and how he likes to travel: “after burners, sir?” Like he KNOWS what Finns answer is gonna be before asking lmao

Then Tomber. That “treacherous lowlife,” Finn says then proceeds to fawn over him for rest of their time in Paris. Also I love how as soon as he heard rare parts, his IMMEDIATE word association was 💖Tomber💖 like he is so down bad. Done even get my started on the faces Finn was making at Tomber the whole fucking scene.

There’s honestly so much to unpack about his friendship with Tomber, I could make a whole post about it.

Not sure how close he is with Stephenson but he also immediately thought of him when they had to get to Italy.

Then has the nerve to drop that fake ass “fRiEnDshiPs cAn bE dAngEroUs,” line.

Like babygirl, you are friends with every car in this movie.

Even with Zündapp they clearly go way back and have a history. Granted they hate each other and are trying to kill each other the whole movie. But like that’s a lasting relationship you know?

Also when Mater shows up at Buckingham Palace with a fucking bomb, Finn is able to get the security there to stand down and not blow him away on the spot. He’s supposed to be a spy, indistinguishable from a random bystander, but evidently they all know him and know to trust him.

Then he swaps emails with Luigi??? “Oh so you got my email!” Holy shit man he’s STILL at it.

And of course we aren’t going to forget about Leland Turbo whom he is CANONICALLY along time lovers friends with. He literally spent the whole movie on an impulsive killing spree after he saw Leland’s body. You CANT TELL ME THERE WASNT SOMETHING GOING ON THERE.

So yeah, Leland, Sig, Mater, Siddeley, Tomber, Stephenson, who knows how many of the security cars at the palace, and Luigi. All within the span of an hour and half movie

Conflating writing porn with morality is known to be bad--unless of course you're arguing one is morally obligated to do so, which is good, because we love compulsory sexuality and acephobia, right?

Yes, so, reminder, no you don't have to write porn, no you aren't morally obligated to do so, and yes actually it is actively good to write complete sexlessness too because that can challenge anti-queerness as much as writing sex can.

(Also, based on the way people talk about queer sex, writing queer sex does not inherently defy anti-queerness because some people have not unpacked heteronormativity whatsoever and just project that dynamic onto 2 men and call it progressive. I disgress.)

Anyway if you believe there is a moral imperative to write sex, you're acephobic and by extension queerphobic. If you believe there is a moral imperative to write sex, you are actively upholding compulsory sexuality. If you believe there is a moral imperative to write sex, you're being a bigot.

OP, please correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't ace basically mean not having any sexual attraction? Like it's possible to be in a romantic relationship but have no sexual attraction at all.

I do get why people don't like it when aro characters are shipped since aro means having no romantic feelings, but what's wrong with shipping ace characters if there's no sexual attraction involved?

I'm not op, so obviously I can't summarize their opinions on this topic, but I am ace, so I'll try to answer your questions to the best of my ability.

First, you're correct about what asexuality and aromanticism are. An ace person doesn't feel sexual attraction towards anyone of any gender. An aro person doesn't experience romantic attraction towards anyone of any gender. Just like with sexuality, these orientations are a spectrum, and if you'd like to learn more about that, I'd highly recommend checking out AVEN, the Asexual Visibility and Education Network.

The problem people have with shipping ace characters is that sexual attraction often is involved. Sometimes people justify this by headcanoning an ace character as aspec so that they can (though infrequently or under specific circumstances) experience some level of sexual attraction. This becomes a problem because aspec identities are valid and should be written/considered with the respect they deserve. Since these identies are not often portrayed in media at all, it is especially important to show them accurately.

Aspec people are real individuals, and when writing someone on the ace/aro spectrum, it's the author's responsibility to write them with respect for, and knowledge about, their sexual identity. All too often, headcanoning an ace character as aspec is used as a crutch for the author/shipper to insert a hint of sexual attraction. This can feel disrespectful to ace/aspec people since the uniqueness of our identity is being disregarded in favor of allonormative structures.

Sometimes allo people can have a hard time writing ace characters because it can feel difficult to separate romantic and sexual attraction in their own lives. Writing a character where these two concepts are inherently disconnected can be daunting if the author feels these concepts are hard to understand separately. This is completely okay! So long as the author is able to educate themself about asexuality enough to be able understand the difference, even on just an intellectual level, the character will probably turn out fine. We don't always have to write what we know, but we should always know what we write, as Red from OSP always says.

The shipping problem occurs when an author/shipper/whomever chooses not to learn about the nuances of asexuality and instead slaps the "aspec" label onto an ace character without fully comprehending what it means.

Tl;dr: shipping ace characters is fine, so long as it's done out of respect for their sexuality, rather than in spite of it. In order to ship ace characters, one must understand asexuality first.
