Ahead of the next release we caught up with our new signing Lawrence 'Ettica' Tarling to ask him 'Just who the hell is Ettica?'
First of all who are you and where are you based?
I am Ettica, a House and Techno DJ/Producer residing in London. I'm originally from Essex and have been making dance music for about 17 years. In that time I've moved through many different styles but the main consistency in my music was always based on a solid groove. So in a way I guess I was always meant to write Techno.
How did the project come about?
I really thrive on trying to mix different genres in my music and DJ sets because I can't write by a set rules; I write for my love of music.
I started writing this EP earlier this year after having been massively inspired by so much of the music Id been buying and hearing on podcasts. The house and techno sound has evolved to being so much more musical! It seems to have so much more soul and depth than ever before and this is what lead me to write the 'Now or Never EP'; a combination of deep house and atmospheric techno.
Who or what are your influences?
My first journey into the world of electronic music was the early rave scene back in the late 90's. Ive been passionate about so many genres in that time which ultimately means Ive been influenced by so many artists. However, the ones influencing me today are producers like, Dusky, Christian Smith, DJ Smilk, D Ramirez and Ramon Tapia, amongst many others.
So, what's next?
At the minute I've got loads of exciting projects on the go. I'm working with Ben Coda on an EP which is going to be huge and quite a few remixes for various artists as well. I'm also working towards doing a live show but this is proving to be challenging as I want to stay away from just triggering clips and move more towards the real live aspect.
