Drew some Ahsoka Tano fan art last night.
@shilisdaughter
Kylo looked at the Togruta before him thoughtfully. If he remembered what he read correctly she was one of the few surviving people who knew Anakin Skywalker. Running a hand through his hair he wondered if perhaps calling her for help tracking down a small gang of other bounty hunters was wise, but they were a threat to someone he did not want dead yet so he walked forwards anyways.
“I do hope you’re Ashla or else my contact will be hearing from me soon about false information.”
Ahsoka crossed her arms in front of her chest and looked the man, making no secret of her analysis. He looked … out of place. He seemed like he could belong in this sort of place on the surface, sure, but there was something. Too professional of an outfit for a freelancer, too well taken care of to be an old set. It could pass, but she’d been analyzing other people for a lifetime, with or without the Force. Definitely someone connected and looking to actually pay for her work.
Interesting enough to hear out, if nothing else. She gave a short nod. “Who’s asking?”
“Someone who wants to keep someone else out of some bounty hunter hands. I heard you were the person to look for with this job, but if you aren’t then tell me now and I will find someone else.” Kylo answered. He saw her once over and knew he didn’t quite fit with the environment but since he left his things in the burning and ruined temple of his old teacher it was the best he could manage aside from his Knight robes.
After a check through the force for any threats he sat down across from her and gestured for a drink to be brought to them. “Does the name Organa mean much to you?”
She froze, then, cursing herself for showing such weakness, forced herself to lean back. Organa. He wanted something with one of An--Vader’s kids. And he’d gone to her. This was either a work of the Force, or someone had managed to figure out who she was. Either way, she couldn’t let this move on without her to make sure all she had left of him was safe.
“Organa. As in the Royal House of Alderaan, Organa. All but one member dead on Alderaan, probably all involved in the rebellion considering the princess was a war hero. Currently just her, her kid, and her smuggler-General husband,” Ahsoka rattled off, then glared at him.
“I’m a bounty hunter, not stupid. What do you want with them?”
“No, I don’t want to talk about it.”

She rolled her eyes, returning her lightsabers to her belt from where she’d panic-grabbed them at waking up to weird noises and dread coming from Anakin’s room. Her rush in had woken him, leading to this lovely denial. Because she would totally believe him and back off.
“Master, you woke me up. Dreams aren’t supposed to wake someone in the next room up. Force, they aren’t supposed to wake someone in the same room up. Isn’t that just a little excessive? I don’t particularly care if you want to talk about it, I’m now awake because of you so I want to talk about it.”
Ahsoka plopped down straight in the middle of his floor, crossed her arms, and stared determinedly up at him. “So what was it about? Obviously something bad from the sounds, but what? I won’t judge.”
“that’s not fair!”
@torturedbrilliance | send “that’s not fair!” and i’ll write how a scene between our muses would play out from that line.
“Too kriffing bad, Skykid Three. Like it or not, that’s how this works.”
Ahsoka crossed her arms over her chest, struggling not to smile at the sheer indignation in that reaction. His argument was a fair reaction, to be honest, and if this weren’t the sixth time she’d argued about it maybe she’d be more lenient. But honestly. They were in the middle of a sparring room and there weren’t any practice sabers around. What did he expect his outrage to do?
“Were you alive when the Jedi were? No. Was Luke? No. None of your instructors were, except me, and all of the holocrons you have were made for adults. Them having proper lightsabers for katas does not mean you can use one to practice. I’ll let you use mine–at the lowest setting, with supervision–if you’re good, but we have a truly stunning lack of practice sabers and too few crystals to let someone your age make their own if it’ll just be used for practice. So pick up a staff, and practice. If you can master the basic ones soon I’ll show you the variations for special ‘sabers.”
“It still makes no sense, the saber I’ve been using has a low power setting and Master Skywalker has trained against me using it when it is just us.” Ben stated with a small scowl. Of course his usual teacher also was trying to get him to stop with the reverse grip he favored and staves never seemed to help with that, if anything he did it more with them. He did so want to please his teacher and going against what Luke wanted would not help with that.
“You have two sabers with low setting and I have one so that would be fair but using staves when we have perfectly usable sabers is hardly fair or beneficial because I can’t get used to the length or weight of it if I am not using a saber.” Ben continued trying his best to maintain the calm focus that he knew would be more useful in the long run with the debate.
They had the debate every time she was left to train him instead of Luke but the last time had been long enough ago he had hoped she would forget. Of course this time too he had Luke’s words about how he had been trained and how he was going to make sure that his students were trained the same rattling around in his mind.
“But with staves, you also get used to having to use things other than lightsabers. I can’t count the number of times I’ve found myself fighting with a pipe, or a stick, or literally anything other than my lightsabers. Most of the time for private training, for example, I’m on a ship. I can’t be using a lightsaber on a ship no matter my control, in case I mess up and cut something important. And, as you said, Luke has trained with you using one.”
“And not every saber is the same. Using yours is good, but your next one may have a different length, or special features, or a different grip. Or you may have to use someone else’s. Mine and Luke’s are completely different weights because of the materials and designs, and my preference for longer, thinner hilts and blades in general. Staves are a different weight and feel than a lightsaber, which isn’t always fair, but is also one of the reasons to use them.”
Ahsoka sighed, just knowing she’d have a headache by the end of the day. Verbal sparring with a baby Skywalker. She’d signed up for this, she reminded herself, and relented just a little.
“If I were your only instructor, I wouldn’t be so insistent. But I’m not. Luke trained one way and it works, but I’m trying to make sure you don’t end up with those same weaknesses by teaching you the things that have worked for thousands of years. There’s a reason we have forms and katas and styles. There’s a reason there’s Masters and Padawans and systemized instruction for years at a time. It’s more effective. I’m not just making this whole thing up.”

Interesting enough to hear out, if nothing else. She gave a short nod. “Who’s asking?”
Ahsoka ended up as a bounty hunter because, well, what else should she do? She’s always needed to constantly have something to do. She’s needed a goal most of all, something she can be focused on and find purpose in. As a Padawan, that was easy. Her goal was becoming a Jedi. Her goal was finishing the mission and keeping everyone alive. Her goal was success.
But without the Jedi, without a command, what could she do? She didn’t know who she was. She didn’t know much at all about herself as Ahsoka Tano, a person, and not a Jedi Padawan except that she found helping people fulfilling. So she tried it, but she didn’t want to take anything from them in return for helping them and all too often she was turned away without any success. She didn’t like it, but without the Jedi she still did have to find a source of income to survive.
And, well, when she considered what she was good at that didn’t feel wrong to do without being a Jedi--the thought of using the Force except when necessary ached, beecause even if she wasn’t a Jedi it didn’t mean she had Fallen or anything--the main thing that she noticed was fighting. Her apprenticeship was in a war. Fighting was the most applicable skill outside of an organization.
So . . . trying to be a bounty hunter.
There could be good bounty hunters. The ones who only hunt down the truly bad people, like murderers, or terrorists, or anyone who’d hurt others and was too capable for planetary forces to handle but wasn’t important enough for the Jedi to intervene. She knew, with the war, there were a lot of those.
So Ahsoka Tano became Ashla, a bounty hunter with a very strong sense of morals.
