“Yeah,” Zekk nodded placidly in apparent agreement, “you’re ‘just a little banged-up’ in the same way that your dad’s ship is ‘just a little banged-up’ whenever it finishes dancing with a half-squadron of TIEs by itself. In other words, absolutely perfectly fine.”
He extended an arm, letting Jaina decide whether to lean on it, lean into it, motion for him to pick her up and carry her, or rebuff the offer of support altogether – although in the latter case, Zekk knew he would end up carrying her sooner or later when impossible stubbornness met human limitation and lost.
“Maybe we’ll go get you patched-up anyway, just to spare the maintenance droids having to follow around and clean-up the leaking, how’s that sound?”
“First of all,” Jaina gritted out between her teeth, “how dare you? The Falcon is in excellent shape and I would remind you that insulting her is not the way to get out of this alive.”
She leaned on him hard. It was actually a lot more painful to move than she had anticipated. And she had anticipated quite a bit of pain. She hated to admit it, but Zekk might be right about her need to visit with the medical team.
“Fine,” she said, the word turning into more of a hiss as turning her head slightly caused another explosion of pain behind her eyes. “That’s fine. Let’s just do that and do it quickly.” She recognized that she probably didn’t have a lot of consciousness left at this rate and she knew that she wasn’t exactly light to carry. She wanted Zekk to have to do it for as short as possible.
“Talk to me, though. Keep me present, please.”

Aunting
“Depends which ‘her’ you mean,” Taryn retorted, being deliberately obtuse. She flopped into the nearest chair and took a deep drag of her fruit cooler. “In the Hapan Cluster we try to be a little more specific with that pronoun.”
“Anyway, you grew up in a whole jungle ruin packed-full of Force Sensitive kiddies, didn’t you?” Taryn continued complacently. “So you should know all about it. Try and think back, and reassure me by telling me that they aren’t all as much work as you – and that Allana is going to grow into being less work than you are, please!”
It was only mostly a joke. Taryn adored Jaina – but Taryn adored many things that were difficult, usually precisely because they were difficult. Being responsible for keeping said difficult things alive, on the other hand, was another matter altogether.
“And what do you mean?” she asked in response to Jaina’s following question. “What’s to decide?” She laughed – more of a cackle, really. “We’re just not. What a bizarre idea…”
“To be fair, given my family’s history, I should probably agree with that sort of specification,” Jaina snorted. “We tend to have to specify more than I like, also.” The Yavin academy had been an experience, for sure. Although, Jaina wasn’t sure how reassuring what she’d learned about Force-sensitive children while there would bring any comfort to Taryn. “Umm.. I mean, technically, yes. But, please remember that I was also a Force-sensitive child, so it’s hard to think about how hard they were to raise. I wasn’t raising anyone.” She shrugged. “Although... I think we were all about equal work, I’m sorry to tell you. There were a lot of extenuating circumstances, but I think it’s fair to say that Allana will have a lot of those, too...”
“Is it bizarre?” Jaina cocked her head, unsure of why that was so weird. “Like, lots of couples have children. Why would it be bizarre for you two?”
She thought Zekk would actually be a pretty good father, all things considered. So long as his children’s lives didn’t depend on telling the difference between salad and a table decoration, anyway.

“Okay, it’s time for another drink.” (kadbejetiise)
@kadbejetiise
"Yes, I would have to agree." He replied, topping off both their glasses.
Jaina downed half her glass in one swig and then gestured towards the bottle with her glass.
“You know, I think we have another bottle. We could just get straws,” she shrugged. “Cut out the middle man, right?”

Screaming Into The Void
@kadbejetiise | continued from this.
Rhys stood with her helmet propped on her hip, an easy at-rest posture that looked cocky but was really just a result of weight-distribution – and after all these years, was as natural to the veteran snubfighter pilot as the grip of her X-Wing’s yoke against her gloved palms. She gave the not-so-veteran pilot sitting in the simulator in front of her a crooked grin and said, “Hey don’t sweat it, Solo. Screaming into the void – natural or simulated – is a time honored and widely accepted technique for dealing with ‘all of this’ that the entirety of Starfighter Command will back you up on. If the Jedi Council has a bone to pick with you for utilizing it, they’ll have to come through the rest of us to do it.”
Her grin widened as she added, “And given that the guy who heads that Council used to be in Starfighter Command, they’d probably be better off keeping said bones to themselves.”
Rhysati chuckled, but then her smile softened into an expression of sympathy and she asked gently, “Anything you want to talk about, now that you’re done overloading the audio-dampeners of the simulators?”
“I figured that if it was good enough for our astromechs...” Jaina shrugged, boosting herself up out of the cockpit to stand next to her commanding officer. “And I can’t imagine my uncle giving me too much grief over my coping mechanisms so long as they don’t seem too sith-like.” She leaned back against the simulator pod with a heavy sigh. “And it’s nothing. Just the eternal frustration that is a humanoid relationship. So... y’know... nothing worth overloading an audio damper over, really. But, also, at the same time, completely worth it. Y’know?”
❛It’s okay, sometimes I feel like screaming my way through life too.❜ (rougueintheclouds)
Jaina turned in her pilot’s chair, startled. While it was true that screaming wasn’t exactly a quiet sort of activity, she had thought herself more or less alone in the simulator. She popped the canopy with the familiar pop-hiss and removed her helmet. “Sorry,” she said, feeling somewhat sheepish. “I just... I know that I’m a Jedi and I’m supposed to have all of these methods for dealing with all of this but, sometimes, it just doesn’t cut it, y’know?” Of course, Rhysati didn’t know about the Jedi techniques, but Jaina knew that Rhysati understood feeling overwhelmed.
