nothing like dedicating 30 minutes a day and a playlist to privately having a mental breakdown before repressing feelings of “AGhgGagsjJAjshajjJJZJSJS” again for another twenty three hours and thirty minutes

so here take this little opinion I have on a new fandom of mine which is (shoot me sue me idc) bnha.

this is not a new opinion, nor is it an unpopular one, but the biggest problem this series has, and the main thing for me that holds it back from being what I would call a really great series, is the sheer disrespect in the way it treats its female characters.

costumes? no excuse at all. Give Momo an open back instead of whatever that was. make Hagakure a suit made of her hair/dna like they did for Mirio. In a similar vein, the show should not be afraid to let the female characters be buff, toned and bigger in a way that isn’t sexualised (I am but a lesbian, I love Mirko as much as anyone, but she is like the only visibly buff female in the show apart from Star and Stripe who gets killed instantly and uh, yeah). Put meat on their bones I’m begging, someone like Uraraka would be so buff if they had to constantly withstand the G-Forces that she does.

and then the character development. Uraraka, as much as I love her, becomes something akin to a cardboard paper cutout after the Sports Festival. I would have loved them to go in more of a ‘her being strong and cool like that’ direction but NO, the one major fight she wins is when she is so nice to a traumatised girl that she dies for her. Which again. Oof. Things like this being paired with the slim cast of female characters at all (the male to female ratio in Class 1-A is bad, and if you pair that with there being only ONE female hero in the Top Ten at the start which increases to TWO near the middle of the story, then yeah) makes for just a not good enough story. I could relate to some of the characters but that was mostly due to my autistic experiences being reflected in several members of the (MALE) cast. I couldn’t relate to any female members of the cast, which is uh something not great?

to finish this off I am going to say that I greatly enjoyed bnha. great world and concept, and the characters they actually bothered to tackle were mostly tackled well. I am a firm Dadzawa fan and dove right into the fanfics. yes the fandom is strange. no I do not interact.

mha is cool. its representation of female characters is not. this has been A Post by A Person

well my party was chilling in the palace of the god emperor we managed to accidentally gaslight into us working for him (we are wanted criminals. half of us have Magic Items of Evil and Madness.) and we had breakfast. Our bard decided to throw some bread rolls at our rogue/paladin, and rolled for them decently well.

Then the bard decided to throw a fork at full speed at the rogue’s head.

Nat 20, 4 damage, and then they got into an actual scrap.
