Josh Homme & Iggy Pop - Post Pop Depression (3/3)
Elizabeth Weinberg/The New York Times
Punk rock shaman Iggy Pop performing at The Electric Ballroom, Camden, North London, on 14th Feb., 1980, in a stunning shot by acclaimed rock photographer © Virginia Turbett, who has extensively documented the scene since its very early days, as you can check out for yourself on: virginiaturbett.com/ or her IG account: virginia_turbett_photography/ (DM or email [email protected] for more info on how to get prints ).
“…I felt I knew his music really well, having been listening to him since Bowie introduced us (so to speak…) many years previously but seeing him perform live was a whole different bowl of bananas. I have little patience for the artists who turn up and perform their albums without getting a sweat up - but Iggy never disappointed on that front. He usually lost most of his clothes at some point during the first half dozen numbers and, at this point in time, was partial to a bit of self gaffer taping various parts of his body.
He called me up one night to go “party” with him… I was terrified and made an excuse about being busy in the darkroom (true).
Can’t help but wonder what I missed?!”

Iggy Pop getting all punky with a fern in 1977. He was charged with assault & celery, but the case was dropped as the plaintiff turned out to make a rather nice soup.
