[Mistel blinks. Blinks again. Breaks into a wide smile.] Oh– no, of course not! How silly that would be!
[But the truth is, this is the first time he’s remembered his birthday since the beginning of the month, when he’d noted idly to himself that it had been coming up. That’s the way he is every year, however– the excitement for Christmas so often sneaks up on him and ousts any joy he might take in his own birthday. Christmas has always felt like the second, better party of the month– one that the whole world took part in.]
[Especially when his circle of friends had always been on the rather small side.]
Well! If you haven’t been spoiling me lately, I’m sure I don’t know what spoiling is!♪ Thank you! [Mistel chuckles as he accepts the gift, taking to open it on his shop’s counter. Once the wrapping is mostly discarded, he holds it up to appraise the contents.]
Ah, how cute! A cat puzzle! It’s so– [He stops abruptly as he recognizes the print on the front label– ages 8 and up. He pauses. Turns to look at Agate for a moment, hesitating before continuing– as though attempting to see himself for through her eyes.]
…I love it!♪ [He still wears his smile, just the same.] I’m sure it’ll be– very good fun. Thank you, Ms. Agate.
[Nods her head, a wide grin on her face as she hands over the gift to him. She waits, watching with a bit of excitement clear on her face as he opens the gift. Of course, it isn’t until he claims he loves it (despite the pause, though clearly lost on her,) that her face truly lights up, ecstatic that he seems to enjoy the present she had given him.]
Oh, I’m super glad you do! When I saw it, I immediately thought of you and figured it’d make the perfect present for your birthday. Though to be honest, I think I would have gotten it for you anyway even if it wasn’t your birthday.
[She pokes at the back of the package.] The cat shapes are so cute, and even though it says one person can play, I’m sure you could play it with someone else if you’d want!
