when i was living in the north last summer we had this kind of wildfire smoke for weeks and it never made the news and barely anyone talked about it because its just part of life up there like bears in your garbage and having frozen roads for 5 months. everybody knows someone who works as an MNR firefighter and most people have fire stories. people constantly asking on facebook if there are any road closures because of the fires. it's overtime season up there babeyy

for the record. it's impossible for the fires to be caused by "forestry mismanagement" because most of them are in unmanaged forests hundreds of km away from any roads. american inability to understand how remote the far north is. say climate change

i understand that in many indigenous cultures it's important to "give back" through tobacco or other forms of thanksgiving and i don't want to knock that, but it's crazy that we're pretending it's ecologically responsible or some form of conservation. we should be able to respect and appreciate the value in religious teachings without treating them like science. i know this seems like a "ill take things that never happened for $200" but it's not and that's part of what makes me lose it
