This doesn’t have anything to do with “celebrity” or even parasocial relationships.

The really dumb part is, “thoughts and prayers” is the equivalent of doing nothing, especially when you actually have the power to help. Amal Clooney DID something tangible to help, but because she was professionally and legally required to maintain silence, she got dragged on social media

Her actions were the polar opposite of “thoughts and prayers,” and I’d be celebrating her actions even if she wasn’t famous. And there’s nothing wrong with showing gratitude or saying thank you to someone who helped, but didn’t have to.
