(Name) collapsed from exhaustion as the timer hit zero. She had finally managed to maintain ren for three hours, her body at its limit.
“Alright, you can go rest now. Once you’ve slept for a few hours, come back and do it again.”
She nodded, barely able to pick herself up and shuffle to her room. It was dark out, the boys had already left to challenge knuckle, and she was glad Bisky understood her limits.
If (Name) was forced to go fight knuckle after maintaining ren for that long, she would pass out before reaching the park.
‘Ugh…’
Lifting a spoonful of soup to her lips, (Name) ate, wincing at the temperature. It wasn’t hot enough to burn her mouth, but warm enough to be uncomfortable.
Bisky might be a bit less hard on her, but the training was still excruciating, and sometimes she just wanted to give up. When (Name) thought about quitting, the image of Kite’s severed arm flying through the air appeared in her mind, strengthening her resolve.
‘We have to save him… if… he’s still alive, that is.’
Taking another bite, she peered outside the window, staring at the full moon. Part of her wondered just exactly how she wandered up here, training until she nearly passed out and only getting a few hours of sleep between sessions.
Maybe if her parents had been better, if she hadn’t taken the Hunter exam, or maybe if Kurapika had chosen her instead of his revenge, she wouldn’t have to suffer like this.
She paused, shaking her head. ‘That’s selfish… why would I think something like that? Kurapika’s revenge is important to him… I just… wasn’t enough to try and balance friendship and his responsibilities to his clan…’
Her heart hurt, especially when she thought about him abandoning her so easily, as if the time they spent together meant nothing to him. All this time she had been making excuses, trying to tell herself that it was just how life was, but while she was exhausted and frustrated, she couldn’t help but feel a bit of hatred in her heart for him leaving her.
(Name) loved him dearly, saw him as her dearest friend and someone she wanted to be with one day… it made her upset to imagine him seeing her as nothing but someone to pass time with. Maybe that was all she had been, someone that would comfort him and be a shoudler to cry on until he didn’t need it anymore.
Until his heart hardened enough to where comfort wasn’t necessary.
(Name) played with her hair, plopping down on her bed after quickly washing her face and doing her night time routine.
‘I better sleep, Bisky won’t let me rest anymore than a few hours…’
She didn’t want to go to sleep feeling hateful, so (Name) closed her eyes and imagined him holding her close, kissing her head when she thought she was asleep.
It made her feel warm and fuzzy, her cheeks growing hot. One day, she wanted to get that Kurapika back.
Her Pika, not the Kurapika he had become.
——————
(Name) woke up when the sun barely began to peek through the window, shielding her eyes from the light. She then raised both of her arms to shield herself when she was hit again with a pillow, the real reason she had woken up.
“Get up, (Name). Gon and I are going to sleep, but Bisky wants you to go train.”
She whined softly, opening her eyes to see Killua hovering over her, holding a pillow and ready to strike again.
“Killua..? What time is-“
He brought down the pillow again, making her yelp. “H-hey, stop that, I’m up, I’m up!”
As she sat up, Killua huffed. “Finally, I’ve been trying to get you to wake up for 10 minutes.”
(Name) stood, rubbing her eyes before peering out the window. “What time is it? The sun’s barely out…”
“I don’t know… like 6 am? I wasn’t paying attention. Bisky kept throwing things at us.”
She shuffled across the room, opening her closet. “Alright, tell her I’ll be out in a second. Gotta change…”
Killua shrugged and left, leaving her alone to get dressed.
After putting on a simple, airy summer dress, (Name) made her way downstairs. Bisky was perched on a stool, looking at a… suspicious magazine. The front cover had a half naked man on the front, making (Name) raise an eyebrow, but she stayed silent.
“I see you’re up. Start ren.”
“Ren? But I haven’t had breakfast-“
“I’m not repeating myself.”
She tried not to groan, getting into position before starting ren.
Not only did she want to save Kite… but she was getting pretty freaked out by Palm’s ominous warnings.
‘I have to try harder…’
———————
“Ugh…”
(Name) walked on wobbly legs down the street. Her body was exhausted and she felt like she would pass out at any moment.
Between training with Bisky then eating and sleeping, she had little time for herself. So when she was given an hour of free time, she nearly ran to the park.
Well… (Name) couldn’t really run right now persay, but she moved as fast as possible for her exhausted body.
She nearly collapsed on the bench, taking out her phone to scroll mindlessly through social media while snacking.
A smile stretched across her face when she saw a picture of Leorio in his new scrubs, her eyes lighting up when she noticed he was holding a picture of their group.
She liked it before scrolling, nearly jumping out of her skin when someone cleared their throat in front of her.
It was that guy with the pompadour again!
“Uh… hello. You’re Knuckle, right?”
He nodded, narrowing his eyes at her. “And you’re friends with the two boys I’m fighting against,”
She blinked in confusion, tilting her head. “I- how did you-“
“Yesterday I fought against them and came back the their hotel room. You were asleep on the couch.”
(Name)’s cheeks heated up, and she scratched the back of her head sheepishly. “Ah, yeah… I was tired from training.”
Knuckle looked her up and down, frowning. “From what they said, you’re the one that’s going with the winners, right?”
She set aside her snack, turning off her phone. “Apparently, yeah. I’m not quite sure why Chairman Netero chose me, but I’m going anyways so I’m here to support Gon and Killua as much as I can.”
The man nodded, crossing his arms. “And how has that been going so far?”
A frown appeared on her face. In her mind, she hadn’t really done much of use. Despite being several years older than Gon and Killua, she was nowhere near their strength and amount of determination. All (Name) wanted to do was help her friends… and keep Kurapika out of her mind.
“Honestly? Not great. I feel so weak and helpless, and I think I’ll be more of a burden to the team if I’m the one that goes to NGL again. I don’t know why the chairman said I’m going for sure instead of Gon and Killua. They both have so much more skill and experience than I do in battle.”
“But are they as experienced in life as you?”
This made her pause, her eyes flicking up to look at him. “What do you mean?”
He shifted his weight, letting out a grunt. “Those boys may be strong, but they’ve had strength their whole lives. Neither of them truly knows what it means to be utterly weak and defenseless… but you do. You can better understand the battlefield from a different point of view.”
This was something she hadn’t considered. Knuckle offered her a hand, a smile on his face. “If strength is something you want, I can help.”
(Name) hesitantly took his hand, and the two wandered off to begin training.
——————
Kurapika scrolled through his old messages with (Name), laughing to himself at some silly pictures. It had been a rough day with missions going wrong and lots of whining from Neon, so he allowed himself a few minutes of rest.
And he couldn’t help but take out his phone and scroll to her blocked number.
His soft brown eyes took in her sweet smile and read through her jokes and kind words. He got so lost in thought that he hadn’t noticed Melody calling for him until she was looking over his shoulder.
“Oh, is that (Name)?”
Kurapika jumped, his phone slipping from his hand and landing on the floor. He scrambled to pick it up, but Melody got there before he did. On the screen was a picture of (Name) in a bathing suit eating ice cream.
“Oh…”
Melody cleared her throat and handed the phone back to him, clearly a bit flustered and uncomfortable. “Apologies, I should have knocked. You’re a teenager, I didn’t even think that you’d be uh… looking at things like this.”
Kurapika nearly died on the spot, his face going red. “N-no, it’s not what it looks like! I was… just looking at old pictures we sent to each other.”
Melody paused, hearing a sorrowful song being sung by his heart. She let out a sigh, turning back towards him.
Although she wanted him and (Name) to reconcile, she could tell that him lingering on her memory while keeping distant was only hurting him.
“Don’t you think it’s… best to leave it alone? I’m not sure it’s fair to either of you if you’re going to act like this.”
His eyes turned scarlet, and he shoved his phone into his pocket before standing. “I don’t think it’s any of your business, Melody.”
“I think it is when you’ve been getting sloppy during missions, Kurapika! You get drunk at night then wake up so hungover you can barely work. How is that fair to the other body guards? Either work this out or…”
She stopped, placing a hand to her temple. “Either go back to her or don’t. If you’re going to break off the friendship, then you can’t be wishy-washy like this. It’s not healthy.”
Kurapika settled back into his chair as she left, staring down at his phone screen. Tears pooled in the corner of his eyes before he swiped them away.
His finger hovered over the delete button… and he clicked it over and over, getting rid of most of their messages and memories.
——————-
“Concentrate, (Name). If you can’t hit me, you won’t get any stronger.”
Sweat pooled down her forehead, her shirt soaked. It had been nearly two hours since (Name) began training with Knuckle, and he had only landed a single hit on him the whole time. His ability was annoying, but it was good practice sparring with him.
“Come on, just one more punch and you’ll get a break. Try again.”
She bit her lip, trying to focus and keep calm as he stood before her. Knuckle hadn’t been going easy on (Name), she had specifically asked him to fight her seriously… but god was she exhausted and ready for a break.
All of her nen focused into her fists, surprising him. She wasn’t one to be so reckless… Perhaps this could be a good development.
She sped up the very air around her fists, causing it to get hot enough to have him wincing when she thrust her fist forward.
Indirectly, she had hit him with an attack.
“That was… smart.”
He sat down, passing her a bottle of water, which she downed almost immediately. After collapsing on the grass, she caught her breath before speaking.
“Do you… think I’m getting any stronger? There’s only one more day until I leave for NGL…”
Knuckle waited until she had calmed down before he spoke. “I think you are stronger than you were a week ago.”
She blinked, then smiled, a big genuine smile. Before he could even react, she leaned forward and kissed his cheek.
“Thanks for this, Knuckle. I really appreciate it.”
The man was left a stuttering mess as (Name) stood up and brushed off her skirt. “I’ve got to get back home and start training with Bisky… that woman won’t tolerate any lateness.”
With a wave, (Name) ran off.
That night, she sat up in bed when she heard the alarm for the boys 3 hour ren training going off.
Opening the door, she peeked out to see Gon and Killua looking quite serious… though they were both grinning ear to ear.
“Are you boys going out again?”
Gon turned, giving her a smile. “Yep, today we’re going to fight him for real!”
(Name) rubbed her eyes as she walked in, still in her pajamas. “I see… I think you’ll do well, and I wish you the best.”
The two were pulled into her arms, a kiss placed on both of their heads. “Just… know that you’re both very strong and smart boys, sometimes… Even though you try your hardest, you can still fail. That’s life.”
Killua frowned, his head rested on her chest as Gon looked up at her. “We’re going to do it, (Name)! We’ll give it our all!”
She giggled, ruffling his hair. “I know you will. Now-“
The sound of paper tearing made them all jump. Palm was scribbling something terrifying onto paper, muttering something barely legible under her breath.
‘Yikes, I’m just glad I won’t be here tomorrow.’
————————
(Name) woke up in the morning, whining softly as she turned. It was Killua again… except this time, he looked devoid of hope.
She was instantly wide awake, throwing back her blanket so she could pull him into her arms. “Killua, sweetheart, what’s the matter? Are you okay?”
He sighed, letting her coddle him for a moment. It felt nice, after how awful his night had been.
“We… didn’t win.”
(Name) had expected as much. Killua and Gon waste my weak by any standard, but at the moment Knuckle was leagues ahead of them. From pure battleground experience alone, he had the advantage.
“I couldn’t fight… I kept…”
Killua choked up, clutching her sleeve. “I kept hearing my older brother’s warning… he always told me to never fight someone if I wasn’t sure I could win… how can I be friends with Gon if I can’t fight by his side!?”
She held him as he cried tears of frustration. He was so angry with himself for being weak, for being afraid.
“Killua, baby…”
There wasn’t much she could say or do, so she quietly pushed back his hair and kissed his forehead. “Maybe you should think about it for a while, sweetheart. Do you think Gon thinks the same way you do?”
Killua was silent, and she wasn’t even sure he heard her. The two stayed like that for a few minutes before he wiped his tears. “… Knuckle and Shoot said you need to be packed up by 3 pm. You’re leaving with them then.”
There was a look of hesitance on his face, and he gripped her sleeve tighter. “Are… you sure you want to go? It’s going to be dangerous, (Name).”
“I know, and I’m sure.”
She stood up, walking over to her dresser. “I’m going to pack, you can stay in here if you want.”
And he did.
(Name) stretched after stepping out of the van, leaning her head against Knuckle. It was strange, he seemed so fidgety after their training the day before.
“Knuckle.”
“Hmm?”
Gon stood before him, Knuckle’s nen technique still clinging to his shoulder from their fight. “Promise me… you have to save Kite!”
“Got it. I promise I’ll bring him back. I swear on this token.”
(Name) gave them both a hopeful, nervous smile, waving as she left. The two watched her go, both trying their best to stay strong.
———————
(Name) walked into NGL, wearing the clothes she had during her previous trip. Almost immediately she was pulled into a hole, yelping and falling onto her butt.
“Eek!”
Knuckle and Shoot landed across from her on their feet, getting into a fighting stance immediately. Knov and Morel stood before them, both of their gazes on (Name).
“We were told you have healing abilities, yes?”
(Name) was escorted to the chimera ant colony, where she was brought into the queen’s room. The ground was crunchy underneath her shoes, and the air was thick with tension.
There were doctors already working on her, and (Name) could tell that the creature was far past any saving.
“Hello…”
She knelt beside the queen, looking over her wounds. The doctor to her left spoke.
“Several organs have been damaged beyond repair, and she’s lost a lot of blood.”
(Name) frowned, looking over her body. “I’m… not sure I can do anything. If she had a missing limb or large cut, I could accelerate her atoms to heal faster. My ability speeds up time, if her organs are damaged or gone, all my ability will do is kill her faster, not heal her.”
The heart monitor started to slow, and the ant queen reached out her hand. She was trying to speak.
“Please! Please, you have to do something!”
A chimera ant named Colt grabbed her shoulders. “Anything, please!”
(Name) bit her lip, reaching out her hand. She tried to remember how it felt when Kurapika snapped at her… how time seemed to slow down and stretch forever.
Knov and Morel stared on in awe and disbelief, watching as the ant queen’s heart monitor slowed.
“I’ve stalled her organs failing… please, let her speak.”
‘She… slowed down time? Even for just a localized area, that’s an incredible feat!’ Morel thought, peeking over (Name)’s shoulder.
(Name) didn’t hear a single thing the queen said, all of her energy was spent on stalling just a little longer, keeping time still.
“She’s gone…”
With those words, (Name) collapsed covered in sweat. Shoot was closest, catching her before she hit her head.
——————
(Name) woke up in a feverish haze, her body feeling heavy and way too hot. As her eyes struggled to open, she heard something faint and distant.
Someone was speaking to her, trying to get her attention.
“(Name)..?”
As the fuzziness in her eyes began to fade a bit, she was finally able to focus on the figure sitting next to her bed.
“Ch… chairman… Netero..?”
The man before her had a calm look on his face, leaning back in his chair before speaking. “You’re awake. It’s been four days since you temporarily stopped time.”
“Four days!?”
She jolted up, nearly vomiting after the sudden movement jostled her.
“Easy there. Lay back down, there’s no need to rush. We need you to recover as quickly as possible, and that can’t happen if you’re trying to rush things.”
(Name) blinked her bleary eyes, settling back down and putting her head over her forehead. “You need me..? Why? I did one thing and now I’ve been out of commission for days.”
“You stopped time, (Name). That can be very useful to us.”
She huffed, looking around the room before her eyes settled on a glass of water. “I only slowed down time temporarily for a localized area. It's not enough to help anyone, much less-“
He handed her the cup of water.
“You kept the ant queen alive long enough for her to tell the others the King’s name. That’s crucial information tha can be used as a bargaining chip. It seems you don’t understand the potential you have and the impact your powers can have on the future.”
Netero watched her drink, sighing. “Slowing down time is something impossible, I’m not even sure how you were able to do it. When creating something with nen or performing an ability, it has to have some basis in reality.”
“Well…”
(Name) set the glass beside her, wiping the leftover water from her mouth. “All I did was imagine a moment where time seemed to slow down for me, and-“
“And you transferred that ability into nen! My girl, you’re quite clever, aren’t you?”
For the first time, Netero seemed genuinely impressed. He stood, walking over to a table and picking something up.
“Here, it’s your bag. I’m sure Gon and Killua will want to know what’s happening.”
He turned and walked towards the door.
“An enhancer will be coming by in an hour or so to help with the healing process. You should be good as new within a day or so.”
He paused, turning to look at her. “And make sure you don’t tell anyone about your ability. There are many people that would kill to be able to stop time… even for just a moment.”
With that, he left, closing the door behind him.
—————-
(Name) winced as Gon jumped into her arms, nearly knocking the wind out of her.
“Hey, hey, I’m alright…”
She frowned, petting his hair. Gon was completely quiet, his face hidden in her shoulder as he clutched her tightly.
‘He’s already nervous about Kite, I’m sure knowing I was in the hospital scared him…’
Killua stood by her bedside, reaching out to hold onto her shirt. The way Killua showed how he worried for her was pretty cute.
“Chairman Netero said I’ll be fine. An enhancer came by and checked on me a minute ago.”
The two seemed to relax a bit, smiling as they not got comfortable in her hospital bed.
“Ahh, now it’s cramped.”
They watched tv for a bit, eating hospital food and laughing. “You both seem like you’re in a better mood!”
“Yeah, that’s because Knuckle said he found Kite!”
(Name)’s face lit up at Gon’s words, and she couldn’t help but laugh. “Wait, seriously? That’s amazing!”
Killua looked out the window, his eyebrows furrowed.
‘Knuckle seemed troubled when he told us… something is up.’
But he stayed quiet, not wanting to ruin the good vibes. Gon had been training so hard to save Kite… and Killua really wanted to believe everything would be okay.
The three spent the next few days together, sharing their experiences. They were both shocked to learn about her new ability.
“YOU STOPPED TIME!?”
(Name) quickly covered his mouth, shushing him. “Shh, I'm not supposed to tell anyone! It’s dangerous information….”
“Then why the hell did you tell us!?”
She sighed, giving him a smile. “Because you two are my friends.”
Killua quieted at that, hugging to try and hide his embarrassment and happiness. “Yeah, yeah…”
Gon leaned her head on his shoulder, smiling. “You’re both my friends, and… I care a lot about you both!”
Killua threw a pillow at him, his cheeks pink. “Oh will you both stop it with the sappy stuff!?”
Gon and (Name) giggled at him, making Killua even more flustered.
(Name) wishes times like these could last forever… but that could never be. Something felt wrong, there was going to be more pain and heartbreak sooner than she wanted…
But there was nothing she could do for now, so she held onto them both, trying her best to be their rock as the days passed by.
—————
Walking down the dark stairway to meet Kite for the first time in months should have been exciting… but all the three felt as they were guided into uncertainty was a nervous, anxious feeling.
Not a single one of them thought everything was okay. Even Gon had a strange expression on his face, half way hopeful, half way dreading what was going to be behind the door.
She put her hand on his back, smiling softly before giving him his space.
If she could stop time right then, she would have done everything in her power to keep Gon from seeing Kite in his current state.
Covered in stitches, staggering and twitching like a zombie. He had been shrunken down by Shoot’s ability, but grew to his full size when let out of his cage.
(Name) tried to stay strong for the boys, but tears threatened to fall from her eyes as she gazed at the man she had admired.
She could tell just from a glance that he had no more life inside of him. He was just a walking corpse with no nen or voice. There was no more communicating with him, he couldn’t be fixed…
Yet Gon walked towards him, allowing himself to be punched as he said it was okay.
(Name) winced, covering her mouth as Gon attempted to speak with him. It was heartbreaking…
Killua couldn’t move, couldn’t say a single word. His eyes were transfixed, moving to follow every strike Kite landed on Gon.
He was finally able to speak, broken from his trance when (Name) reached out to hold his hand and squeeze it gently to comfort him.
The others spoke, but (Name) didn’t hear a thing. The only thing she was focused on was how she would try to heal Gon with her nen after this.
If he would even let her.
Killua helped her up the stairs as they left, letting her lean against him. She was still weak from her overexerting her nen output…
While they walked, Knuckle came up from behind, taking her other arm. “Here, let me help.”
Though Killua really disliked the fact Knuckle had gotten so friendly with (Name), he allowed him to help. He seemed to put (Name) at ease…
“Is… Gon going to be okay?”
The group was sitting in a cafe now, watching as (Name) joined them at the table. She smiled, but it was obvious she was forcing it. “Physically, he’s fine. I healed him up… but…”
Everyone knew what was going unsaid. Gon was in emotional turmoil, struggling to cope with the current situation.
“… there’s still a few weeks before his Nen will be restored.” Knuckle stated, sipping on his coffee. “I guess we’ll just have to watch over him until then.”
——————
On the surface, Gon seemed okay, but both Killua and (Name) knew him well enough to understand it was just a facade. He was storing up all of his anger and strength so he could face off against Pitou.
After a few weeks, the ant extermination group met up in a relatively crowded restaurant, (Name) sitting between Killua and Knuckle as they watched the TV over head.
“What is the agenda behind the sudden flurry of activity recently observed in East Gorteau? Supreme leader Diego has personally invited all citizens in the capital city Peijing to celebrate the nation’s birth in ten days.”
As the news anchors continued to speak, Morel scoffed. “Colt believes the celebration will be used as a screening.”
“We don’t know what they’ll do with those found to have nen, but 99% of the humans there will die. We must stop it before that happens. Our time limit is ten days.” Knov finished, addressing Gon and Killua.
“What’s the old man up to?”
“He sent an email saying that he’s already inside East Gorteau, but I haven’t heard from him since.” Knov replied to Killua.
“Do you think he’s already been taken out?”
“If he fails to contact us today, we’ve been told to assume as much.”
At that, Knov’s phone began to ring. (Name) but her lip, of course Chairman Netero would call right at that exact moment!
“Speak of the devil, it’s the chairman.”
“That old man’s got some sharp ears.”
“He already knows everything, including the fact that you boys and (Name) are here. And that Morel is badmouthing him.”
The text read as follows:
“Divide into pairs and draw the Royal guard away from the king. The night before the celebration, the operation will begin at midnight. (Name), do not use your nen again until then. From the sharp-eared old man.”
“That guy really scares me…”
(Name) laughed at Morel’s words, but in the back of her mind she wondered why she wouldn’t be able to use her nen until then… what did Netero have planned?
Hi! May I request Yandere PLATONIC Tokito twins with triplet younger sister? In this au Yuichiro is Alive and both him and Muichiro are hashiras and reader is an hashira But we have problems growing and stayed the same height as I was when we were 11
Hiii!!! Of course, thank you so much for your request! Your my first request actually. Also, sorry if this isn't what you had in mind.
Triplet Sister
Pairing: platonic!yandere! Tokito Twins x sister!reader
The death of your parents was hard on all three of you, Yuichiro had become cold and harsh while Muichiro stayed the sweet confident boy he always was, and you become somewhat quiet always supporting your brothers and comforting them
You supported Muichiro when he said he wanted to become a demon slayer and deep down you did too but Yuichiro had other thoughts
He called the Muichiro weak and said he’d just get himself killed, he only turned on you when you tried to defend him
This went on until the night you three were attacked, you stayed behind to help Yuichiro when his arm was cut off while Muichiro went after the demon to try and keep it away from you two
You managed to help Yuichiro stay alive until Amane arrived and helped
After that the master and his wife nursed the three of you back to health and you all decided to become demon slayers together, though the boys were hesitant to let you join and it was difficult with Yuichiro’s missing arm he still managed with the encouragement of his siblings
Years past and now the three of you are strong hashira, though for some reason you had remained the same height you did when eleven
Your brothers were always somewhat protective over you growing up and once you became demon slayers it only intensified but it only seemed to get worse once they realized you had stopped growing
They insisted on at least one of them going with you on all your missions
Sometimes they would even suggest you leaving the corp but you always brushed them off or shot them down
Yuichiro only seemed to get more persistent while Muichiro would just nod and try again later
Whenever you were on missions alone they would always send letters and overbearing once you got back which had become annoying
Even when not on a mission and just not around them they’d always send one of their crows to deliver a letter or a verbal message
You had decided to ignore their crows at this point, which ended up being a big mistake
When you next saw your brothers after that Yuichiro looked furious while Muichiro looked worried out of his mind
Muichiro immediately clung to you and started asking you rapid questions which overwhelmed you but what make you more anxious was the furious look on Yuichiro’s face, he began to yell at you to the point of tears
He even voiced the thoughts of just forcing you to resign and keep you home where is was ‘safe’
Hi everyone! I’m so sorry for not posting anything in a while, life has gotten a bit busy for me. I probably won’t be able to post again for a couple of days but I wanted to let you all know that I’m alive and we’ll just busy.
Anyway some updates that your actually interested in:
Wind’s Tsuguko Chap 1 is done, just need to edit it.
Scars Part 2 is being made
Platonic yandere Tokito twins x triplet younger sister is being made
The Thunder Hashira Chap 13 is being made
I’m also thinking of adding Black Clover and My Hero Academia to my writing list if anyone is interested. I personally think the Black Clover fandom is way too small, can’t find any good fics out there. Please recommend some of you can!
Anyway I hope you’re all well! Have a great night/day/whatever time you’re reading this!
Summary: Obanai meets a child with similar scars as him while on a mission and decides to adopt them
Warning: blood, scars, trauma, gore
A/N: I know he's ooc, please forgive me! It's my first time writing for him so I'm trying my best here.
It was supposed to be a normal mission. Just another village getting terrorized by a demon, kill the demon and move on. Not hard at all. At least that is what Obanai thought.
The journey to the village wasn't hard or long at all, having been quite close to where he already was. Just a day's walk, when he arrived it was nearly dark. All he had to do was wait. Obanai walked around the village for any signs of demons when he heard it, a scream. He ran toward the sound, it was coming from a house. The door was already broken down and when he entered he found two parents and a child.
Obanai quickly slayed the demon that barely had any time to react to his sudden presence. He then examined the family of three, the mother was already dead, the father quickly following, while the child stood in the corner frozen and covered in their blood.
Obanai sighed and looked away, what was he going to do? There was no saving the father and what was he going to do with the kid? Obanai blinked, right the kid. He looked back at the kid, there were a couple of silent tears running down their cheeks but their face was neutral. That's when he noticed the little mask that covered the lower half of their face. Weird.
Obanai walked over to the kid and knelt down. "Come with me."
~
Obanai and the child now sat by a river just outside of the village, he would take them back or to an orphanage later but now he needed to clean them up.
"Come here." Obanai grabbed the kid's arm and gently but firmly started to wipe at the streaks of blood with a wet rag. He didn't know why he was doing this honestly, he didn't usually do this but he felt like being nice today. Or something like that he just had this weird feeling. Obanai wiped away as much of the blood as possible and then moved on to their face, becoming a bit more gentle. He furrowed his brow in frustration realizing the blood soaked through the cloth of the mask they wore. "I'm going to have to take this off." He said already starting to peel it off. Panic was reflected in the kid's eyes but they made no facial expression. He felt their small hand wrap around his wrist suddenly trying to stop him but he had already taken it off.
Obanai ignored them and simply started to wipe off their face, there seemed to be black lines caked under the blood but he assumed it was dried blood. He took the rag away and dunked it in the river again, he brought it back up after draining it off a bit and kept wiping. His hands then stalled a bit as he got down to the ‘dried blood’. He furrowed his brow as he looked at it, wiping it a bit harder. It wasn’t budging. He put the rag down and grazed his fingers against it. His eyes went wide, it wasn’t dried blood.
“Who did this to you?” Obanai clenched his jaw tightly. His own memories flashing in his mind and a dull phantom pain suddenly residing under his mask. The child looked away from him and fidgeted with their hands.
“…p-par-parents.” The child stuttered but it came weak and hoarse. Obanai's breaths became harsh as he clenched his fist around the rag. He had to calm down.
~
He didn't know what came over him but he never ended up bringing them to that orphanage. He got close, and he told himself he needed to but looking down at the child, (Y/N) he learned, he couldn't bring himself to do it. So here he was walking back to his estate with them in his arms, asleep.
Their scars were different from his, he had observed. After he realized he couldn't drop them off at the orphanage he bought some soap and new clothes and went back to the river so the child could bathe (he did wash their hair though cause they were still small and didn't know how). Once all the blood was off their face, he had gotten a better look at their own scars. Unlike his, theirs curved a bit upward, kinda like a smile.
Obanai looked down at the sleeping child. They wore some of his spare bandages around their face and their eyes were a bit puffy. Their tiny hand was wrapped was clenched in a fist holding his haori. Kaburamaru seemed to like them a bit already, surprisingly. He had the end of his body wrapped around her wrist slightly.
Obanai sighed looking down at the little child in his arms, how was he supposed to take care of a kid? He didn't really think this through. Surprisingly he also hadn't got any missions yet so he was heading back to his estate now.
~
Obanai sat across from (Y/N) at the table with a cup of tea in front of him. He stared at them with a faraway look as they ate lunch, holding a fan he got them in front of their face. They had expressed a couple days into staying with him that they didn't like the way the scar moved when they ate and the possibility of people staring so he got them a plain white fan to cover their face while eating.
"What's wrong?" Obanai blinked, he had been lost in thought. He had a mission the next day and couldn't bring (Y/N) so he was trying to figure out what to do. He couldn't leave them alone.
"You need a babysitter." He said simply. Who could he trust to do this? He could drop her off at the butterfly mansion, Shinobu probably wouldn't mind but (Y/N) would get anxious with so many people. Not Sanemi he's too harsh and was on a mission. Gyomei and Rengoku were also on missions, last he heard. He didn't trust Tengen with a kid, maybe his wives but he didn't know them so not really. Definitely not Giyuu. Obanai wrinkled his nose at the thought. He would rather die than let him near his child. Obanai blinked, did he just think that right? His cheeks warmed slightly in embarrassment.
Obanai sighed, thinking. He couldn't trust Muichiro, he was also a kid and would probably forget he was babysitting. Then that would leave... Obanai's face went a bit red. Mitsuri. Yeah, she wasn't on any missions.
"Are you sick?"
"No."
"You're face is red."
"Shut up and eat."
~
"Oh my god, you're adorable!" Mitsuri gushed over the child. She ran over and picked them up making them squeal in surprise. "Why didn't you tell me you had a kid?" Mitsuri asked turning to Obanai who looked away shyly.
"It was sudden. Only about a week ago." Mitsuri had already turned back and started gushing again.
"How old are you?" Obanai froze when she asked. How old was the kid? He never asked.
"Four." Mitsuri squealed.
"You're just as old as my younger brother!"
"You can take care of them right?" Obanai cut in. Mitsuri turned to him with a smile.
"Of course! Don't worry, we'll have so much fun. What kind of games do you like to play?" Obanai smiled just slightly at the sight of the two. Making his way out of the state without a worry knowing that Mitsuri would take care of the child.
~
When Obanai got back he didn't know how to react. (Y/N) was curled up in Mitsuri's arms as they napped. Mitsuri had braided their hair into the same style as hers, well as much as possible with how short it was compared to hers. She also held a small snake plush in her arms, where she got it from he didn't know.
He blinked and felt his lips trying to twitch into a small smile at the sight of the two. He was about to walk out again quietly so as to not disturb them when (Y/N) blinked her eyes open a little.
"Obi?"
"I'm here." He spoke softly so as to not wake Mitsuri. (Y/N) lifted her head slightly to look at him, still clearly tired. "Go back to sleep." They groaned a little and lifted their arms making grabby hands towards him.
"Come 'ere..." They mumbled. Obanai paused looking at them warily then back at Mitsuri. Though to (Y/N) he was taking too long. They huffed and sat up a little putting both arms out to make grabby hands. "Cuddles or rat poison in food."
"...what?" Obanai stared at the child shocked. Did he hear that correctly? He thought about opposing and walking out, ignoring them but the challenging glint in their eye stopped him. Slowly he made his way over, laying down next to Mitsuri. Unexpectedly the woman turned and curled up into his side noticing the sudden warmth next to her. (Y/N) hummed happily snuggling between the two. Obanai wasn't sure if he could breathe.
(Y/N) was kidnapped by an upper moon just after one of her missions because of information that Muzan has reason to believe that they hold. The location of Ubuyashiki's manor. Their wounds from the mission make them extremely weak but that doesn't stop them from sassing and pissing off the demon king and his uppermoons.
"Aw come on, Himiko! It's been a week, still the silent treatment?"
"..."
A sigh. "Ok." Kanae placed the tray of food on her lap. "I spoke with the master about your situation. He was very understanding and said you will not be receiving any missions until you're fully healed and cleared by me. So you don't need to worry about that ok?"
"Hmhm, hm." (Ok, thanks).
"And she speaks!" Kanae laughed earning an eye roll and more grumbling from the girl. "Anyway, with the clean break and cast your leg should heal pretty quickly. Only a few months tops, three or four. And that's with physical therapy and recuperation included!" Kanae explained. She then placed a tray with food in front of her. "Now eat up! I'll also have one of the nurses bring you to the courtyard later for some fresh air, you've been cooped up for quite a while."
~
"Do you want me to cut your hair?" Kanae asked Himiko one day. She had taken to going over files and doing some of her office work at a small table in the room Himiko resided in, keeping her company.
Himiko tilted her head. "Why?"
"Well I've just noticed how uneven it is, is all. It's quite short in some areas but also long in others. I wasn't sure if you wanted to keep it that way or not, so I thought to ask." Himiko blinked at her and furrowed her brow. She brought her hand up running it through her locks and bringing it forward, as if looking at it and noticing the dead ends and uneven length for the first time. It had taken quite a while to detangle it when she had first got here, as it had grown to be matted in a few areas over the time she spent on the mountain. Though luckily she had the habit of running her hands through it in anxiety so it prevented it from getting too tangled.
Himiko stared at her hair for a few seconds then shrugged. "Sure." She said. Kanae smiled standing up and walking out of the room. When she walked back in she held a comb and scissors along with a small basin of water.
"If you don't mind, I think it'd been easier to have your hair wet." Himiko nodded. After gently soaking her hair to make it wet enough for it to be straight Kanae instructed her to sit back up. She had a towel wrapped around her shoulders to stop her from getting damp and held Sabito's mask in her hands tightly. She usually wore it around her neck but had taken it off for the cut. Kanae gathered her hair in the back and started combing through it. Then soon enough Himiko could hear her to begin cutting it. "Here you go!" Kanae handed her a mirror about half an hour later, having now finished.
Himiko took the mirror and looked at herself. The front was shorter, just barely reaching her shoulders while still wet while the back was longer, a few inches below her shoulders. Himiko blinked at her appearance. It looked... nice. It had been so long since she'd looked decent. She'd often see her reflection in the water on the mountain but had stopped when it got painful for her to see how much she'd changed or the new scars that littered her body.
"What do you think? I know it's not the best, I'm no professional."
"Thanks," Himiko said in a slightly far-off tone. "It... pretty." Kanae blinked at her then giggled.
~
It had been about two months at this point with Himiko staying at the butterfly mansion. Her speech had improved and she was able to speak small sentences but had to take pretty lengthy pauses. She had also healed enough to be able to use crutches but couldn't rely on them for long distances. Shinobu had also come to visit when she could but couldn't stay long cause of her missions. Currently, Shinobu was sitting next to her on the engawa, the two of them having come out to get some fresh hair. Shinobu was reading some books about medical ailments and poisons, one of the two, Himiko wasn't sure as she'd switch back of forth between the two often and the books always looked similar.
"What's that?" Shinobu asked peeking over. She had looked up from her book and found Himiko holding two photos. One was of three kids, a boy, and two girls, they looked happy and were smiling brightly. The other was of the same girl in the middle in the first photo but with a short old-looking man with a cane and stubbed leg. Shinobu furrowed her brows looking at the girl, she looked familiar yet unfamiliar at the same time. She glanced at Himiko and back at the photos. After a few seconds, her eyes went wide in realization. It was Himiko, but she looked so different. The Himiko in the photos didn't have on of the scars that the one next to her had. Her hair was also longer and her skin looked soft, untouched. But it was the eyes that set Shinobu off. In the photo, her eyes looked so cheerful, happy... innocent. But with a spark of mischief. Shinobu looked back at Himiko, now her eyes were distant, sometimes a bit cold, but still held that same mischief at times though. They were also harder, no longer holding that same innocence. But also a deep sorrow. Shinobu tilted her head staring at her friend sadly. The mountain had really changed her...
After the silence Shinobu didn't expect an answer, already turning back to her books. "My master." She turned back and saw Himiko holding up the photo of her and the old man a little higher than the other photo. Then she lowered her hand a bit and raised the other one. "My friends." Shinobu hummed as Himiko went back to staring at the photos with a sad look. She then paused.
Himiko hadn't left the mountain at the time she was supposed to. And she never went back to where her master lived. Never wrote a letter either. Shinobu looked back at Himiko. Her master must think she's dead. "What's your masters name?"
"Hm?" Himiko looked at her surprised. "Jigoro Kuwajima. Why?" Shinobu ignored her question, standing up.
"Alright. I have to go, do you need help getting back to your room?" Shinobu looked down at her but Himiko shook her head. Shinobu nodded saying goodbye and walking into the estate. She had a reunion to plan.
Was wishing there was a positivity post for original fiction writers since I see so many about how fanfic writers are doing so much for their communities even when they're not actively writing, and then I thought:
Be the change you want to see in the world.
So this is a positivity post for the writers out here who are working very hard on stories with no established community. Who can't talk about their blorbos and plot lines and brainstorming to anyone and expect them to know what any of it means. Who don't have much to share publicly, but are hoping they will one day.
You're doing a lot of hard work, and I recognize and appreciate what you're putting into the world, even when you're resting.
Im currently writing my own book, that hopefully is popular enough to have people wanting it to be a series cause I have soooo many ideas for future books (tho I don’t expect it to be that popular just enough to have enough profit and attention to make another). Anyway sorry I’m rambling now..
This message really means a lot to me and hopefully other people too! It’s so refreshing and true and I love how supportive it is and you are, it means a lot. It means more than you can think ever think of greatly.
I try explaining it to my friend and seemed interested and was so supportive (giving her thoughts and opinions, asking questions, also sharing a few scenario ideas, we’re both writers and give each other ideas to put into our books but do it respectfully and it’s not rude cause in the end it’s our decision if we wanna put it in) but also really confused. Again I’m rambling sorry. Anyway this message really meant a lot and I hope it reached the original writer community.
Hi everyone! I’m sorry for not posting the next chapter of The Thunder Hashira or publishing the first of Winds Tsuguko yet, I came down with a throat infection and am really sick. I’ve barely been able to eat or get out of bed. I’ve just now started to gain some energy back.
I’m promise to update as soon as I can but for now I’m just going to focus on resting. I’m really sorry.
The two girls stumbled out of the forest, there were already some people around them when they arrived. Himiko's sight was hazy and her head was still spinning. She felt Shinobu lay her down on the ground then touched her face.
"I'm going to take off your mask now, I need to see your wound." Shinobu said as she started to untie the knot of the rope. Himiko couldn't hear her though and instead grabbed Shinobu's hands and stopped her.
"No touch... not touch mask..." After getting Shinobu's hands off the mask she clutched onto it tightly. Shinobu bit her lip in thought, clearly Himiko wasn't listening and she had a strong grip on the mask. Shinobu then gripped Himiko's wrists instead of the mask and pulled them down to rest in her chest, bringing the mask with them. Himiko gripped the mask tighter feeling the weight disappear from her face. She'd worn it for so long that it felt weird not having it on. It became kind of like a comfort to her.
"I'm going to put it right here ok, I'm not taking it." She said then started to assess her wound. It wasn't anything serious thankfully, it was just a big hit and deep scrape. Shinobu was about to wrap the wound, seeing as she doesn't have any medical supplies with her, when someone walked over to her with a small med kit.
"Here."
"Huh? Oh thanks." Shinobu took the med kit and started to clean the wound, Himiko hissing at the sting. She soon had the wound wrapped neatly and propped the limp girl up against her as they walked forward into the group to listen to the people in charge brief them about things they'll need to know about the corps. Shinobu was pretty sure Himiko wasn't listening cause of how hazy her eyes were. Now looking at her Shinobu realized this is the first time she's seen her face. Her face was a lot cleaner than the rest of her body, her lips a pale pink color. Her eyes were a maroon-ish red color that matched her hair perfectly. She was also pale and you could see the outline of her bones. Shinobu noted that in her mind, she'll have to get her some real food to eat, she was clearly malnourished. Shinobu sat down, having Himiko lean on her for support. "Don't worry, I'll fill you in later." She mumbled patting her head slightly.
~
"What the hell is this?"
"You're uniform. Is there an issue?" Shinobu stared at the tailor blankly.
"Yes, there is an issue. The shirt is barely a shirt. I can't wear this."
"I don't see an issue with it." The tailor smiled at her and she cringed. Instead of continuing the argument Shinobu took out a match, where she got it from they don't know, and set it in fire.
"I will take the normal corp uniform thank you." She said passive aggressively. The tailor scowled at her but handed it over but handed her the same female slayer uniform as before.
"For the other girl."
"No she will also be taking the normal uniform." They stared at each other glaring for a few seconds before he took it and shoved it into her hands then shooed her off.
~
"Meatball."
"Himi' that's not a meatball."
"Meatball."
"Himi' no."
"But meatball."
"No. Just point at one."
"..." Himiko pointed at one of the ores at random then picked it up. They looked at her confused then she slowly brought it up to her mouth.
"Himiko no!" Shinobu snapped and wrestled it out of her hands, which wasn't very hard cause she was still a bit out of it. Himiko whined.
"Meatball!"
"No, I'll get you food at the nearest village, but that's not a meatball." Himiko pouted but leaned into Shinobu nevertheless.
~
Shinobu and Himiko walked down the mountain silently. The newly demon slayers had just been released to go back to their homes and or masters and they were making their way down the mountain now.
"Nice meet you!" Himiko said with a wide smile, she had her mask loosely hanging around her neck instead of on her face. They had just met a cross in the road, one leading to Shinobu's home and the other in the direction of Himiko's masters home. Or at least that's what she remembered.
"Where do you think you're going?" Himiko blinked at her and tilted her head confused. Shinobu crossed her arms and rose an eyebrow.
"Home?"
"No you're not. Who knows the kind of injuries you have right now, my sister's knowledgeable in the medical field and I'm a doctor in training, and we live at this hospital like place. Your coming with me." Shinobu said and grabbed her arm to drag her with her.
"No, must home. Worried." Himiko tried to protest but Shinobu ignored her.
"No, you're coming home with me. And I will NOT be taking no as an answer."
~
"That's so sad!" Kanae said after Shinobu finished explaining Himiko's situation. Himiko had been sat on one of the cots as Kanae examined her leg. She had barely been able to explain the wound but was able to nevertheless. Kanae ran her hand over the leg, feeling the bone and frown at the bumps and ridges. Apparently from fear of not knowing if it healed all the way Himiko had never taken off the makeshift cast, so when they did only a few minutes prior it took some difficulty. Feeling the bone, Kanae realized that the bone hadn't healed properly, writing that down she moved on to Himiko's neck. Kanae put two fingers on her neck, right around her vocal cords. "Can you you hum?" Himiko nodded and hummed in response. "So you were choked by a demon right?" A nod. "Well it seems that your vocal box has healed, it just hurts to speak because you're not used to talking anymore. It's scratching against itself and creating an uncomfortable almost painful feeling and when you speak too much it becomes painful." Kanae noted and wrote it down as well. Shinobu looked over at the clipboard.
"So you've mostly healed on your own, it's only your leg and vocal box that need doctor assistance. Then we also have to get you on a balanced diet to gain back your lost weight and make you healthy again." Shinobu notes. She then turned and started speaking hushedly with her sister. "What do we do about her leg? If it didn't heal properly then it could cause issues in the future?"
"As much as I hate to say it but we might need to break it again and monitor it to make sure it heals properly this time." Kanae answer then suddenly Himiko's face appeared right next to theirs as they were huddling while talking.
"What whisper 'bout?" She asked.
"Just some things we'll need to do to ensure you heal properly nothing to worry about!" Kanae said patting her head. "Now how about you sit back down while I go over a plan to get your voice back with you?" Himiko nodded and sat back down as Shinobu left the room. Kanae sat down in a chair across from her. "Alright, what I want you to do is do some humming exercises until it's no longer uncomfortable or painful. Then we'll transition to small words and phrases and slowly just like that we'll work our way up to bigger words and full sentences and speeches ok? How does that sound?" Himiko nodded and that's when Shinobu came back in with two more people. Himiko narrowed her eyes, what's going on?
"What go on?"
"Himiko, humming."
"Hmm hm hm?" (What go on?)
"Better. Well we're going to fix your leg."
"Hm hm." (Leg fine)
"...." The Kocho sisters and two nurses blinked at her. "Well when I was examining your leg I noticed that it hadn't healed correctly. So we need to fix it." Himiko narrowed her eyes.
"Hm hm hm?" (Fix it how?)
"Don't freak out." Shinobu and the two nurses went either side of her. "We may or may not have to break your leg again and make sure it heals properly."
"Hm." (No.)
"Take a deep breath."
"Hm hm hm hm!" (No, no no, stop!) Shinobu and the two nurses held her down while Kanae grabbed her leg.
Hello :) I’m wondering if you’ll continue writing the thunder hashira as it’s been so amazing so far and I would love to see more of it 💙💙
Hi!! Thank you so much! Yes I am continuing the series, I’ve just gotten a bit busy cause I’m in the middle of finals (I’m still in school). It will be updated soon tho! No worries!
Meet Aya Tomioka. Having never been close with her brother she wanted to do something with her life. What better way then to become a demon slayer? Unfortunately though her brother wouldn't allow that, not wanting her to be in danger, but what he didn't know wouldn't hurt him right?
Pairing: platonic!yandere! Muichiro x mother figure! reader
GN!
Summary: You care for him like a son and treated like so, but he was darker than you thought her was. How far will you get before he finds you after escaping the estate?
A/N: Believe it or not but this is actually my first time writing yandere! I don't think its entirely good but I'm pretty proud of it for my first try. I hope you all like it, please give me your feedback!
You stumbled through the snow, shivering at the stinging cold. How long have you been trapped in there? You couldn’t tell. Your feet felt like they were going to freeze off, after all you were barefoot. You didn’t have time to go grab shoes when your escape was right there.
How did you even get into this situation? You squeezed your eyes shut at the memories.
You had met him during a mission. You were assigned to work with a hashira in this mission, apparently strong enough to need a hashira and one other but not enough to require two hashira. You were nervous, so nervous. You didn’t want to embarrass yourself in front of a hashira! But then you saw him, a short boy with long hair. He looked no older than fourteen. It had always broke your heart how such young kids were becoming demon slayers and what they go through. But to see a fourteen year old having gone through that and train hard enough to become a hashira so quickly just made it worse.
You didn’t let that show though, either way he was still your superior. In the down moments when you weren’t actively working you'd talk to him in a kind motherly manner, not in a belittling way but in a sweet way. He would look at you with a tilted head and sometimes narrowed eyes, annoyed maybe, but wouldn’t say anything. But when working you would treat him like any other superior.
Then after the mission was over you decided to get some breakfast and invited him as well. He accepted but didn’t talk much. Then you went your separate ways. But then you got another mission with him, then another, and another. Every time you would treat him the same way. Once you even gave him a head pat, you didn’t do it on purpose. Your hand kinda moved before you could think about it.
“Don’t touch me.” He gave you the coldest glare you had ever felt. You felt immediate shame fill your body and soon excused yourself. You never tried that again after that. Always kept your distance too, in case of accidentally touching him while walking. He didn’t seem to notice, if anything he seemed more pleased.
Then he went on a mission somewhere else. Not unusual. But the next time you saw him he was… different. His eyes were more clear and when he saw you a smile immediately crossed his face and he ran towards you. He wrapped his arms around you and pulled you into a tight hug, his face in your neck. You tensed at the contact, not used to it coming from him.
“I’m sorry. I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry I treated you like that.” He kept repeating, talking into your neck. Slowly, cautiously, you wrapped your arms around him loosely. But that’s all. He melted into it further though, like it meant the world to him.
After that you would see each other a lot more often. For some reason every mission you had was with him. He would also stay quite close to you as well. There was one time when you two were just sitting around a table he had grabbed your hand and put it on his head. You were confused but he looked at you expectantly but when you didn’t do anything he frowned and pushed it on to his head a bit harder. You realized, and although very confused, starting to pat his head. He seemed content but grabbed you hand when you tried to pull away.
It was sweet. The relationship the two of you had now, like mother and son. But then it took a turn. He would barely let you fight the demons you fought. Always jumping in and killing them before you. It was sweet at first but then got frustrating. Then after that he insisted on being next to you everywhere, even when not on missions. But compared to other things, those were more innocent.
He started trying to take up all your time, always wanting to be around you. He would also seem standoffish and be flat out rude to your other friends. Soon for some odd reason they started to distance themselves. But he was always there to cheer you up, you realized too late that he was the reason why they got distant.
Then for some odd reason you started getting missions less and less. This confused you but you didn't question it much. Then one day Muichiro invited you over to his estate. This wasn't an odd thing as he had done that numerous times before. But at the end of the night he insisted you stay the night and after a little fighting you agreed. That's where you went wrong. He didn't let you leave the next day or the next. You got frustrated and decided to just leave. If he caught you on the way out then so bad you'd just force your way out, no big deal. Yeah, you were wrong. He caught you on the way out, as if he were guarding the door. He refused to move and when you forced your way past him he let you. You made it a total of five steps out the door before you felt something hit the back of your neck and you passed out. All you heard were Muichiro's six words.
"I can't lose you too, mom."
You shook your head harshly pushing away the memories. You were so stupid. He may be a child but he was a damn Hashira! You should never have gotten close to him, never invited him to meals, never talked to him about anything not work related, you were so damn stupid! You shook your head at those thoughts. It was too late now, all you can do is keep running.
You kept running down the path then stopped. No this was too dangerous, what if he started walking down the same path and saw you? You made a sharp turn and ran into the forest. It was more dangerous and the roots, twigs, and rocks hurt your feet but it was safer in its own way. You kept running, ignoring the pain, ignoring the wind, ignoring the noises, ignoring your tired muscles that screamed at you to rest, ignored everything. Even ignored the trail of blood you left that was created by your bleeding cut up feet.
You then stopped and jumped behind a tree, crouching. You could've sworn you heard footsteps. You waited in tense silence for a few seconds, listening for the footsteps but when none passed you started to stand back up. You froze again though when you heard them again. Along with a sickeningly familiar voice.
"Mom? Where are you? Come on, I know you're hurt, just come out." You fell back against the tree and stuck a hand against your mouth to quiet any noises. You looked down at yourself, trying to figure out why he said you were hurt when you saw your bleeding feet. Shit. It's been leaving a trail right to you. You couldn't move. If you stood on your feet it'd just leave a trail, but if you tried to crawl away it'd make too much noise and you'd be more noticeable. You're stuck.
Tears filled your eyes at the realization, what were you going to do? You couldn't go back to that estate, playing house. Forced to be affectionate and treat him like your child. You started hyperventilating, having a panic attack.
"Why are you crying?" You gasped and scrambled back on instinct, trying to create distance between you and the boy and appeared right nest to you. His eyebrows furrowed and he easily pulled you back. He held your face tightly with both hands, refusing to let go no matter how much you pulled your head back, he just kept it in place. "Don't cry, mama." He spoke softly but you kept gasping for breath and trying to pull away. He frowned. "This might hurt, sorry." Then you blacked out.
~
When you came to you were laying on something soft with a heaviness on your side and chest. You blinked and realized you were lying back in your futon at the Tokito estate. You moved your head to the side and saw Muichiro laying next to you, closely tucked to your side with his arm and head resting on your chest. He was also staring right at you.
"Your awake!" He smiled brightly at you but you could only feel a deepening pit in your stomach coming from the smile that once brought you so much joy in seeing. "Your feet were bleeding so I bandaged them up. You shouldn’t run off like that mom! Not even half an hour and you already got hurt, they could’ve gotten infected.” Muichiro said but his smile then faded and a cold look crossed his face. “Now on that topic, why’d you run, ma?” You shook slightly at his icy look but his words filled you with disgust. A sudden flash of confidence filled you.
“You know exactly why I ran, Tokito.” I glared at him harshly and pushed myself away from him, trying to create some distance. But I then stopped when I felt a restriction on my foot. He tied my foot to the ground with a rope. “What the hell, Tokito!” I yelled at him again.
“Stop calling me that." My blood froze when I met his eyes, they were void of any emotion and it was terrifying. "I told you to call me Muichiro." He pulled me in closer. "And you're not leaving. I'm not losing you too." His face then softened and he climbed on top of me, hugging me tightly and nuzzled his face into my neck like a baby kitten nuzzles into its mother.
It had been another couple days of travelling. The two girls had some kind of deal going on, Shinobu leads the way out and Kitsune, as Shinobu had taken to calling the girl with the fox mask since she never got her name, would keep her out of the dangerous parts of the forest and protect her from demons she either couldn't defeat or didn't see coming. It was a good dynamic and really worked. But there was one thing bother Shinobu.
She still had t seen her face. It was starting to irk her honestly. Whenever she ate she only lifted it to reveal her mouth and the only time she took it off her face completely was when she was washing her face. Even then though she never took it off, only adjusted it to the side of her face. On top of that it was always placed at an angle where Shinobu wouldn't be able to see her face, Shinobu wasn't sure if she did that on purpose of accident.
It wasn't currently day time and they were resting in another clearing that had sun trickling in. Shinobu looked over at the girl who was starting to curl up to take one of her restless naps. Shinobu had noticed that even when she's asleep she's always tense and never gets any actual rest.
"....whats your name?" She hadn't realized she spoke until the girl turned to her. The girl tilted her head and Shinobu could imagine what look she had on her face under the mask. Furrowed brows, curious eyes, while biting her lip trying to figure out a response. Shinobu caught herself smiling just slightly imagining it and quickly stopped herself. This was just a deal they had, they weren't friends. At least that's what she told herself.
"H-Hi-Hi-..." Shinobu waited patiently for the girl to sound it out. Shinobu also figured out that it takes her a while to respond to things, not cause she didn't understand or was slow but cause she had trouble speaking. "mi-mi-ko-Himi-i-iko... Himiko!" She finally made out, she beamed at Shinobu. She couldn't see her face but by the slightly jumpy feet and clenched fists as she stared at Shinobu she could tell she was proud of herself for saying it. Shinobu's lips pursed and she covered her mouth as she laughed a little.
"That's very pretty." Shinobu said then also laid back and stared at the sky. They were nearing the end of the forest and only had two days left. Shinobu thought to herself. Her eyebrows then furrowed as she side eyed the girl that was laying stiffly waiting for sleep to take over. "You.. you don't have to answer but... what happened to your voice?" Shinobu said. The girl was quiet. After about two minutes Shinobu sighed figuring that she wouldn't give an answer since she would've answered by now but then—
"Demon." She looked over and saw that Himiko was staring right at her with her hands around her own throat. Shinobu immediately understood.
"A demon choked you." She got a nod in response. This girl just got more confusing the longer Shinobu stuck around her. But at the same time her theory just became more accurate as well.
~
"What are you doing?"
"Food."
"That's not food."
"Yes, food."
"Himiko that is a piece of bark."
"Food." Himiko brought it up to her mouth but was stopped when Shinobu tackled her.
"That is not food!"
"Must eat!"
"No!"
~
Shinobu didn't know how it happened. One second the two were just strolling through the forest, almost to the exit and just on the seventh day, the next she was knocked to the ground and Himiko was fighting a demon. It at first seemed like any normal demon but they soon realized it had been stronger than the other demons they've fought.
It had so easily discarded her sword and sent her flying, now facing off against Himiko who was indeed holding her own against him but she was exhausted and Shinobu could tell.
"You're that girl right?" Huh? Shinobu looked up when she heard the demon speak, she was trying to sit up but her arm was injured now so it was hard.
"Don't know mean." Himiko answered after a few seconds as she dodged his claws.
"The girl. The one that has been slaughtering nearly every demon that comes after her in this forest. The one that has survived oh so long here." He said as he lunged toward her again, Himiko just barely dodging. Himiko remained silent. "Aw come on, not in the talking mood? Well I am. you know we may be starving demons that have been in here for a while but we talk... sometimes. i heard about you, the girl with the fox mask. Has been here as long as some of us have been. Killed every demon that has the misfortune of crossing her path right? The one that got stuck here and never made it out?" The demon taunted her, his words made Shinobu's eyes go wide. All the hints were starting to make sense now, the dirty clothes, the weird way she acted, how she knew the forest so well, her weird questions, how quiet she was.
"Himiko..." Shinobu mumbled staring at the girl that she had unconsciously grown so close with. The two were now at a stand still, the demon and Himiko shoving at each other. Shinobu snapped out of her stance and started making her way over to her sword. She had to help. She then heard someone cry out in pain and whipped around and found Himiko had been thrown across the clearing. She was clutching her head and saw that blood was pouring from between her fingers, her mask was also cracked in the corner. Her eyes went wide as a weird protective feeling filled her. She grabbed her sword and started to charge at the demon, he didn't see her coming until it was too late. He was walking toward Himiko with a confident smirk.
"Guess the stories of the fox girl ends here, and to think I'm the one that gets to end her." He said, Himiko stared at him with hazy eyes but they widened when she saw Shinobu running behind him with her sword pointed out ready to attack, and she was angry.
The demon didn't know what happened, one second he was about to kill the girl and the next he was choking and could feel his organs shutting down as he saw that girl with the butterfly clip standing over him with cold eyes.
Shinobu sheathed her sword and then took a few steps and fell to her knees as she grabbed Himiko's shoulders.
"Himi' are you alright?" She asked looking her over, she'd need to take the mask off to get a better look at her head. But first... "We need to get out of here. It should only be a few minute walk, come on." Shinobu wrapped Himiko's arm around her shoulder and supported her weight as she began to get them out of the forest.
The other day I was talking with my friend when I mentioned that I write fanfiction and she just looked at me with this weird look. She then said something like not expecting me to be one of those kinds of people. She reads fanfiction by the way so all I said was-
"You wouldn't have your precious fanfiction if it weren't for people like me."
"Fair enough." Yeah she immediately stopped judging and asked about my book.
A girl could be seen running through a forest. She wore a plain black yukata with a white tucked in haori. Her sword was out ready to attack any demon she came across. Her blade was also different it was long and thin until the very end where it came out and pointed like a normal blade. The tips of her black hair also faded into a bright purple. Her face was set into a straight poker face not giving a reaction to anything.
She didn't chop the head off a single demon she came across either, merely rushing past them with a flick of her sword, but they could be seen in the background choking and falling to the ground dying.
She reached a clearing in the woods and stopped. She calmed her racing heart and after listening for any demons sheathed her sword. She took a second the stretch. Her name is Shinobu Kocho and her final selection had begun only three days ago. It wasn't very hard for her, except for the occasional demon she didn't see coming. Like right now.
Shinobu was caught off guard when a demon tackled her to the ground. She was barley able to pull out her sword in time but it was rendered useless aside from keeping the demons teeth away from her face as the handle was caught in its mouth. She tried to push the demon off herself but having little strength in her arms that didn't work out so well. She kept being pushed down into the ground. She closed her eyes preparing to push all her weight one last time until suddenly the weight pushing her was gone. She opened her eyes and looked up. The demon was now across the clearing crouching down as it rubbed its head. Her eyes then drifted to the person standing over her. She wore a torn yukata that looked so dirty she couldn't tell what color it was. It was covered in dirt and blood so thick, there was more of it than cloth. She weilded a dented chipped blade and her dark red-ish black hair was long but uneven in some areas. Her skin was almost as dirty as her clothes and she couldn't see her face cause of the angle.
The girl didn't say anything, not even looking at Shinobu. She stared at the demon with what Shinobu guessed was a blank face.
"You...!" The demon hissed at the girl. It then charged but in one swift flick of the girls arm its head was chopped off and it was dead, already disintegrating. The girl just stood there, frozen and unmoving. Shinobu slowly stood up.
"Thanks." She said wiping the dirt off her clothes. The girl didn't move for a few seconds then slowly turned around to look at her and Shinobu realized that she wore a white fox mask over her face. It looked specially crafted with a pinkish scar like mark on one of its cheeks. She stared at Shinobu quietly for a second. Shinobu shifted uncomfortable about to say something when she finally spoke.
"...ho-how...long..?" Her voice cracked and sounded strained as if from a lack of use. She sounded like she was supposed to have a soft gentle voice, sweet to the ears but could get harsh when needed. But cause of the cracking and strain it sounded distorted and dry. Shinobu tilted her head, why was her voice like that? And now that she thought about it what was with the dirty clothes? They've only been in the forest three days, it shouldn't be that dirty.
"How long since when?" She asked.
"La-last....the last...fi-final selec-" she wasn't able to finish with strain on her voice. Shinobu then realized how bad it was when the girl reached up to run her neck in pain. Luckily Shinobu was able to figure out what she was going to say.
"A year. Final selection happens yearly." Shinobu said and crossed her arms. "Does it hurt to speak?" The girl stared at her for a second then slowly nodded.
"T-t-too long..." She said. She seemed frozen and deep in thought. She then gulped and looked at Shinobu. "H-help.."
"Hm? Help with what?"
"G-get out... get out o-o-of for-fores-est." she finally made out. Shinobu tilted her head confused. Didn't she know anything about survival? Or her way around? It was only three days, did she get lost already? And what was with her weird questions?
"Yeah sure, I'll help you."
After that they began to walk, or more like Shinobu did and she followed. She was so odd too, Shinobu didn't know what to think of her. Shinobu was about to shove aside a hanging branch and walk forward again when she felt a small but rough hand grab her. She looked back to see the girl had grabbed her.
"N-not there." Shinobu blinked at her, what did she mean by that?
"We have to head this way."
"G-go a-around..." She then took off, pulling Shinobu with her. She was about to argue when the girl brought her finger up to her mouth telling her to be silent. For some reason she felt like she needed to oblige. She soon found out why. There wasn't just one but a nest of demons in the area she was about to walk into. She then realized how quiet the girls footsteps were. Listening she realized she wasn't making a single sound. Her steps also seemed calculated, as if.... Shinobu thought to herself trying to add up all the weird habits the girl seemed to have. She then roughly shook her head, no that's impossible. Someone can't survive here that long, there wasn't even edible food here!
~
They soon stopped by a small ravine. The girl dropped to her knees and put her hands in.
"We should keep moving." Shinobu interrupted her.
"No."
"No? We need to keep moving, demons can pop up any minute and we have to get to the other side in time." Shinobu snapped. Yeah she could just leave the girl but for some reason she didn't want to. Don't get her wrong, if she had to she would, but she had the strong feeling that she should stay... maybe it was to figure this girl out? Honestly she didn't know.
"Safe."
"Huh?"
"Safe."
"How's it safe?" Shinobu crossed her arms annoyed. The girl didn't answer, only pointed at the sky. Shinobu looked up and there leaking through the trees were rags of sun. She blinked and then realized it covered the entire clearing they were in. The girl was right. They were safe here. "How did you know this was here?"
"..." She didn't respond but what she did do was adjust the mask on her face to the side. It still hid her face from the view Shinobu had. She was about to lean down to get a look but suddenly the girl put her head down and into the water. She rubbed her face a bit and came back up, she cupped her hands and put them back into the water. She brought her hands up to her face and drank it, which made Shinobu cringe. Yes it was water, but it was water in a demon infested forest. How could she be sure it was safe to drink?
The girl readjusted the mask back onto her face and sat back.
"Stay sun day. Travel night." She turned her head to look at Shinobu. "Rest. Dangerous." Shinobu tilted her head and narrowed her eyes at the girl. Her voice box must really be damaged if she has to talk like that to communicate.
