Pharmaceutical Drug Study: Hydroxyzine HCL for allergies/insomnia
As I am a neuroscience/pharmacology nerd, I thought I would post some logs I arbitrarily typed down after taking some of my allergy medication (prescribed for insomnia, but I use it for both.).
So here it is!
Hydroxyzine HCL (Vistaril) 50mg ***Prescription only
Classification: Antihistamine, anxiolytic, tranquilizer, antipsychotic
Clonazepam (Klonopin) 3mg administered within the last 8 hours
Analysis for use in both allergies/sinus congestion and general anxiety (though I am not feeling anxious)
Ā Dosage Administered ā 5:33AM (00-00)
Ā 5:37AM (00-04) ā Feeling slightly calmer, eyes feel similar to having a drink or two. Muscles very slightly loosening up and sinuses cooling off a bit.
Ā 5:41AM (00-09) ā Everything above slightly intensified. Slight drowsiness, which I relate to the presence of Clonazepam (Klonopin) already active in my system. Sinus headache (which was minor) is fading.
Ā 5:44AM (00-12) ā Everything above further intensified. Sinuses clearing up substantially. Slight dry mouth. Muscles feeling especially more relaxed. (I believe the Hydroxyzine is perhaps intensifying the muscle-relaxant properties of Clonazepam via interaction.) Time SEEMS to be moving slightly faster, but I am hesitant to relate that to the medication.
Ā 5:48AM (00-16) ā Mouth feeling fairly dry. (This could be due to the coffee I am sipping on.)
My eyes also feel less watery and my vision is clearer as a result.
Ā 5:50AM (00-18) ā Mouth feeling quite dry. Soda helps. Also noticing an intensification in drowsiness. (Again, the quick onset of drowsiness I relate mostly to the co-administration of Clonazepam within the past 8 hours.)
Ā 5:53AM (00-21) ā Sinuses almost completely unclogged. Congestion is drying up substantially. Feels pretty damned nice to breathe through both nostrils. Mouth still feeling dry. Muscles further relaxing. Starting to feel a slight fuzziness.
Ā 7:29AM (02-24) ā Allergies completely gone. Extremely tired, to the point of being ready to sleep ANYWHERE. The drowsiness, however, feels fairly natural. Almost a warm feeling. The thought of wrapping up in a blanket and drifting off sounds almost euphoric.
My muscles are extremely relaxed, particularly in my hands and fingers, which is making it somewhat hard to type. On top of everything, my eyes feel fairly dried out and I can barely keep them open.
Ā Conclusion: Hydroxyzine HCL is VERY affective for both allergies and insomnia.
Ā ***Increased appetite and residual drowsiness upon waking.
