Good job kids, keep doing that thing that you do
the hilariously apathetic sculpture techĀ
"If you see a vagina then that's good"
- person's completely non sarcastic and genuinely good-natured reply to someone genuinely thinking the beets in her print were vaginas
Hey! I'm in high school wanting to go to an art college but I've only looked at a few, are there any that I should check out?
I mean there is all the big schools RISD, SCAD, Boston Museum school of Art,PRATT. There is also the smaller art colleges like the one I attended where itās part of a larger university which I thought was nice considering I Wasnāt constantly around Art Students so Keep an eye out for those they can be pretty nice.
In one of my classes a few months ago, the teacher and the students were complaining about how expensive the supplies were (copic markers, decent acrylics, ect.), and someone suggested that we get together and hit all the major art stores in an organized heist, calling it "Grand Theft Arto".

HOW DO THE PROFESSORS AND NON-ART STUDENTS STAY SANE
Are you asking how do they stay sane around us art students or just in general?
To that anon: remember that without art humans are nothing but beavers, building shit and living off the land. Art is the proof of and reason for humanity.
I really want to study art in a US college in a couple years (I'm european). And I asked around 4chan (the more serious side) and basically they all said that if I study art I will contribute nothing to society and I'm a lazy piece of shit for studying my passion AND I shouldn't waste thousands or dollars without getting a proper degree. I should rather study something useful, like math, science etc. Is that really so? I'm kinda worried now. :(
FUCK PEOPLE ON 4-CHAN first of all
the fact of the matter is is that when they think of art school (and they never went themselves) They think of it on how itās portrayed in movies or books or some weird idea they pulled out of the universe I have no idea.
But I can tell you that ART contributed a lot to society and not to mention everything else the advertisements on tv have an artistic team. Video games, magazines, ALL FUCKING FILMS HAVE A GROUP OF ARTISTS. Most things in the world have an artistic aspect to them in someway. Like that little anonymous icon. SOMEONE DREW THAT and got paid to do it.Ā
DONāT LET ANYONE TELL YOU THAT YOU ARE A LAZY PIECE OF SHIT FOR STUDYING YOUR PASSION.
When you mix the perfect color :-) but don't mix enough :'-)
the true paint struggle
So as background info, my school demands all students take speech to help teach us how to present concepts to clients.Ā We were supposed to give a demonstration speech, and after ten people taught us how to play various instruments, one student says he is going to demonstrate how to roll your own cigarettes. He started his speech off with āI donāt normally use tobaccoā (in a state where Marijuana is not yet legal) and concluded with āand that is how you roll a tobacco joint."Ā The professor looks him dead in the eye and just said "Dude. We all know its for weed. Nobody uses juicy Jās for cigarettes. Frankly why not just throw some water in your bong and go.ā he then turns to the class and says āā¦What? Donāt be surprised, this is art school I know from some of those paintings on display that at least half this school is on SOMETHINGā
I RAN OUT OF GLUE AND MY DAD WONT ANSWER HIS FUCKING PHONE
-Having parents near by in a pinch really helpful...except when they wonāt answer their Phone-SUBMISSION
"It's a tool, disguised as a fruit"
- fiber prof talking about pincushions
"I need a butt!" (We were doing gestural drawings)
-Butts are important...and often fun to draw.Submission
what was your freshman year like in college? what kind of college was it and what kind of classes did you take?
My Freshman year in college was pretty amazing by freshman standards. I honestly have to say weirdly no other year of school was as ridiculously amazing as that first one. Like every year was great in their own right but my freshman year I was definitely spoiled. First off it was an art college that was part of a larger university so students mingled with people of Ā all different majors. I really Admired the way my art college handled the classes freshman year. It was a sort of Foundation Year where we required to take certain classes that gave us aĀ āfoundationā Drawing, sculpture, and a "2Dā class that was split into a black and white that was more graphic/design like and a color which was more painting. The school wanted to make sure you had basics down and taught you things that they believed you would need later. Now of course the kids heading into photography and others were sort of annoyed about aspects likeĀ āIām In photography, why do I need to take painting.ā OrĀ āI want to be a painter, why do I need sculptureā Well later on we all learned that there were aspects in each lesson that we used way later in our own department. Like color theory and proper composition. Not to mention the proper way to Critique where you get the most out of the discussion. We also were required to Ā All University credits these were spread out through all 4 years. These were classes like Math, Social Studies,Humanities, and a Science. Other colleges had to take a āCreativityā class as well but being an art College we didnāt have to. I in particular took a class in Ā Ancient western history which was a lot of fun it was all art students so the professor focused a lot on the Art. and The final class was Called Issues in art making which was our sort of seminar class held in a lecture hall. We would have lectures on the purpose of color, Appropriation, Text, Symbols, Etc. It was definitely a full year. But it really set me up for the rest of them.
Student: someone's gonna come later to apologize. Etching teacher: why? Student: because they stained the press. They pressed a tomato and a pickle with it.
-OMG WHY WOULD SOMEONE DO THAT
Tell him it will take 5 minutes and then throat-punch him
I was quietly cleaning my engraved plaque with gasoline when I smelt smoke from a cigarette. It was from one of my classmates who was like one meter away from me, smoking, near gasoline, which covered my hands completely and all the table I was working in. I thought "this is it, this is how I die, and it's pathetic."
