Clanci pries their eyes open, groaning. They feel sore. Always sore, nowadays.

"Mmg... Spencer's gone."

They feel too warm. He was too cold at first, so cold, the first time he let Spencer in. Over time it calmed down. From an ice bath to a windy day to a pleasant chill. Like mint, almost.

Now he's too warm.

And they're itchy.

They groan, pulling themself up to sit. Did they get a mosquito bite? Clanci scratches the back of his neck, and, is there.. something in his hair?

"A feather?"

It looks fake. He's never seen one this pink, definitely not with this blue spine. It feels real, though. Did someone put this in their hair?

He discards it without a second though, standing up and throwing it in the trash can as he walks out the door. Morning routine, Spencer isn't anywhere to be found. Must be with Stanton and Anthony, then. Did he open a pimple on his neck? He finds a spot of blood when he pulls on his shirt.

He goes to work, he goes through the day, and Spencer comes back in the afternoon. He's hungry again, so dinner it is. The next day, the two manage to seperate themself before he goes to sleep. It's too hot. He sleeps on top of the sheets.

The next day, when he wakes up, he's still warm and still sore. There's a crick in his neck. When they go to scratch at it again, more feathers come up, and it. Hurts.

They pull their hand back and find two more feathers, specked lightly with blood at the base. Blood underneath his nails. Clanci lifts their hand to the back of their neck, and it comes back red.

These feathers came from... him?

we love to see his ominous and yucky transformation! we love to see it

we read this a few times now and what i found interesting was the matter-of-fact banality of the prose. i am not sure if you are writing your clanci with he/they pronouns, but the particular placement of when "they" is used compared to when "him" and "his" is used implies some interesting and fun blurring of who possessed what bodily sensations, what body parts; i love the achievable vaguery in specificity through that language.

(not heavy medical talk underneath, but it toes the line so i am putting a cut just in case)

use of body temperature to communicate the deleterious effects of the possession is also fun. clanci would def understand why in a way stan or spencer would not, but also it is such a mundane symptom it could be explained away easy. it could be his testosterone shots. it could be an illness. it could be mundane things related to his preternatural possession.

the feathers though i do not think that was covered in medical school. unless i am wrong.
