so I'm watching magnus archives cosplay compilations and 1) wow this is a good way to deal with The Yearning(seeing people I knew, more or less, is very nice) and 2) cosplayers are too talented and I need to learn those skills for my own purposes(also cosplaying)

what are you even supposed to post on a kin blog. what is being fictionkin even about. like sincerely I'm not doing anything. I'm just studying for testing week and thinking "man, I dealt with an entire apocalypse and now I'm worried about having 3 tests in one week. I feel like there should be bigger fish to fry" y'know? no moral to this story btw I just have tests next week and wanted to complain about it

thinking about tactile memories. like, y'know when you remember how something specific feels physically? yeah I only get those for this kintype. I don't form those kinds of memories anymore and the ones I have are pretty specific. some examples:

-the fabric that the brand of hawaiian shirts Tim liked were made of

-consequences of hugs as The Tall Friend(hair in my face)

-the file folders that the statements were in(very generic, like, manilla folder texture I think, but still remarkable to me given that, like I said, I don't get those kinds of memories in this life)

there are more but they make me cry (more than these ones already do lol) because of associations so I'll leave those for later because I don't have time to cry rn lol. it's also sort of interesting to me that these seem like they'd be pre-Prentiss memories? I don't actually have a lot of those when I think about it, although honestly I may just be terrible at remembering things tbh.

was working on cooking up an entirely different post but I got sidetracked looking into some of the details of the archiving process because I don't currently know Anything about it and wanted to be factually correct. anyways search engines are a wonderful thing and I now know why acid-free paper is important! so anyways this is now going to be a list of fun facts about preserving your documents with absolutely zero sources because I'm not going to put citations into a tumblr post actually.

-acid free paper is important because non-acid free paper is prone to degrading fast because chemical reactions

-archival quality folders look just like manila folders but they use acid free paper. idk why regular manila folders don't but I guess they don't? unsure of that don't quote me on this one. I'm honestly unsure if they even make paper with acid anymore because I can't think of any kinds of paper that don't have the little acid free label on them but then again I'm mostly encountering paper for artists and that may have an effect on the amount of acidic paper I'm seeing

-please don't staple things into folders. please don't use normal paper clips in folders if you want them to be archive safe. staples and paper clips both rust. you do not want rust on your papers

-there are apparently specific kinds of glue that you gotta use. because having your materials be acid free is Really Important. no I do not know what kind of glue you need

in conclusion:your paper wants very badly to be dead. unfortunately for it, through the power of using the right materials, it can survive at least a bit longer. and also if you want your stuff to last long enough for future historians to want it don't staple that stuff together <3.

I'm starting a new thing I'm doing and I'm calling it memory snippets and this is #1 okay. this is something I'm borrowing from my friend @starribbons . basically the premise is that I'm just gonna dump tiny little memories and thoughts into posts. for me this is because big things don't happen to me very often but tiny bits and pieces that don't deserve their own posts do, and I like posting, so yeah!

today's snippets:

-I was left-handed! this still shows, apparently, because there are a fair few things I'm better at with my left hand and they're all related to hobbies I had

-speaking of hobbies: I liked embroidering my clothes to add a little spice. it's a hobby I'm currently relearning in this life, and it is Far easier with my left hand for seemingly the same reason as cited above

-I embroidered a lot of flowers, I think. soon I'm gonna try embroidering a sunflower because that's a specific one I remember liking but I think I remember a few of my other favorite designs and plan to try those too someday! (since originally drafting this post, I have indeed started on the sunflower. only the center of it really exists right now but that went surprisingly well given my previous struggles with french knots and the fact that the center is made up of them!)

-my favorite color was blue. it is now orange. I find it really funny that they're like, exact opposite colors lol. I still like blue btw; it's just not really my favorite!
