shen yuan transmigrates into yue qingyuan v1 😏
he drops in when yue qi is locked in the ling xi caves attempting to tame xuan su, and finds himself stuck in a cave for the first 2 months of his transmigration. he takes the time to settle yue qi's spirit and meridians (cant be burdened by heart demons you dont remember! yay!) until his shizun finally lets him out. he still isnt quite sure who or where he is, but his shizun seems to write his being slow to respond off as him being a bit delirious post-imprisonment.
he finally realizes he's in PIDW when he's taken to qian cao peak and meets the soon-to-be mu qingfang
finally aware he is destined to be the sect leader, he needs to determine what time period they are in, so he starts asking if shen qingqiu is around yet. mu-shidi is confused af about who this is, but determines this must be the childhood friend yue qi was working himself to the bone to become strong enough to save (he treated enough of yue qi's qi deviations to know)
sy is like??? wtfdym yue qingyuan was trying to "rescue" shen qingqiu??? rescue from what???
he decides all he can do is his best, so he throws his all into being a good future sect leader. his shidi and shimei all fall at his feet, bewitched by their future sect leader's soft smile and genuine demeanor (they all wonder what happened in those caves to make him seem less...hollow). he builds real friendships with mu-shidi and liu-shidi, offering to let mu-shidi study his connection to his sword and to spar liu-shidi as often as he wants. he does venture over to qing jing in search of the future scum villain, but finds that the current peak lord hasn't selected a head disciple yet, oddly enough. where is the spoiled young lord version of shen qingqiu?
oddly enough, his system only gives him an ooc warning when he STOPS thinking about shen qingqiu, and his only quest is "find xiao-jiu", with the next step of the questline being "get stronger"
so, he gets stronger, strong enough to be head disciple! and to do so well at the immortal alliance conference! only...who is that scrawny teen surrounded by the corpses of other sects' disciples??? and why did his quest just get completed???
cut to qi(sy)jiu reunion but sj assumes yue qi had some sort of qi deviation that made him completely forget everything from his past, except for the name Xiao-Jiu. on one hand, shen jiu is devastated that his qi-ge could forget their history together (though maybe a bit comforted that he didnt leave sj behind on purpose, and maybe a bit flattered that his name seemed to stick in qi-ge's brain). on the other hand, now qi-ge doesn't remember how wretched sj is, and maybe sj can keep him at this level of blissful ignorance and build their connection anew, without the burden of their shared trauma...
