Established bingliushen where literally no one else knows that they're already together even though they're not even hiding it
Binghe swings by during a peak lord meeting, and Liu Qingge chases him out. The peak lords think it's because Binghe is technically still banned: Shen Qingqiu knows it's because Liu Qingge is still mad that Binghe woke him up by biting his ass that morning
Liu Qingge, on his way home from a mission, notices a stall with pretty fans and starts examining them. The other cultivators on the mission share pitying glances, because "poor Peak Lord Liu; pining over a man who's smitten with another!" But actually Liu Qingge is staring at this One Fan because he's 95% certain it's one of Shen Qingqiu's custom-made ones, and now he's debating whether to check if Shen Qingqiu is at a nearby inn to confirm or just skip to fighting the stall owner for stealing his boyfriend's fan
Binghe calls Liu Qingge "husband". Everyone thinks he's being sarcastic, especially when Liu Qingge rolls his eyes. (He is rolling them because they're not married yet. "Yet," Binghe will repeat.)
Shen Qingqiu tries to convince Liu Qingge to "give Binghe a chance". Others think he's trying to get Liu Qingge and Binghe to become friends, oblivious to Liu Qingge's true feelings. In reality, Shen Qingqiu is trying desperately to get Liu Qingge to forgive Binghe for the second ass-biting incident and to let Binghe back into their bedroom (as Binghe has been exiled to separate quarters until further notice).
Bingliu starts dueling in public and everyone shakes their head and sighs, like "poor Shen Qingqiu. Will those two ever get along?" Not knowing this is considered foreplay in bingliu language. Shen Qingqiu is perfectly happy to let them tire each other out.
Liushen going through town on their day off, looking at matching couple's accessories together and buying a set. Sightings spark terrible rumors of a possible affair. Meanwhile, liushen was just looking for a reasonable gift for Binghe, who loves finding ways to match outfits/accessories with his husbands all the time.
Binghe whining and complaining to Shen Qingqiu about how "unbearable" Liu Qingge is. He is upset that Liu Qingge still won't forgive him for the ass-biting. It's not his fault Liu Qingge's ass is so shapely!
Liu Qingge embodying indoor/outdoor cat energy by basically wandering in and out of all of Bingqiu's properties as he pleases. He shows up for six hours one day and then a month in another visit, with a three month gap between the two. The entire time he's either at Cang Qiong or thrashing monsters in some random forest. The first time, he shows up to the demon palace unannounced while Binghe is holding court. Liu Qingge kicks the door down while some noble is airing their grievances and loudly declares Binghe's security detail is dogshit. He is covered in blood. He does not seem bothered by the meeting around him as he drags the carcass of some rare beast Shen Qingqiu asked for to the foot of the thrones. Unsurprisingly, the demon realm catches on much quicker to the situation.

I feel like people misunderstand the title of Mo Dao Zu Shi, or of what Wei Wuxian does as “demonic cultivation” (mo dao). It’s not. It is, however, what most people in canon THINK he’s doing
Mo dao messes with the cycle of reincarnation, which is why the Yiling Patriarch becomes so reviled. The term mo dao is actually used only ONCE in the novel - when Wei Wuxian notes that people called him “the grandmaster of demonic cultivation”
It uses living humans, extracts qi out of them, and involves the destruction of golden cores, brainwashing, and effectively vampiring living beings for the sake of power. It doesn’t use ambient resentment, it creates it by harming others.
The reason we’re continuously told (by people who know nothing of Wei Wuxian’s path) that he’s at risk of going insane is because that’s what mo dao does. It warps the mind and body because the source of resentment is within the user
Wei Wuxian calls his cultivation “the ghostly path” or “ghost cultivation” (gui dao). Hell, the only other person shown to match his expertise on the subject - Xue Yang - also calls it gui dao. Xue Yang !! He’d be delighted to call his actions demonic !! If he’s insisting on calling it “ghostly”, then that tells us that the difference matters
So what is gui dao ? First of all, we know that it doesn’t mind-control people as a baseline - that’s why Wei Wuxian ended up dying the first go around. We know that it utilises pre-existing resentful energy in the world to direct the dead
We know, also, that it requires a certain level of understanding of the dead. One of the spells Wei Wuxian creates is literally named Empathy.
We know that the power source is usually external (the Burial Mounds, the Stygian Tiger Seal), and that it, most importantly, doesn’t create demons. It creates ghosts and fierce corpses. And because of this, it likely doesn’t prevent reincarnation.
Why is the distinction important ? Because the former is what mo dao does. It creates mo.
We’re told the difference - very intentionally - in one of the earliest parts of the story, when Lan Qiren asks Wei Wuxian the difference between gui (ghosts) and mo (demons) and yao, and gets the correct answer
There’s foreshadowing littered all across the earlier chapters, actually. I might make a post on that some day

Doodle comic that’s a continuation to an AU where Wu Ming survives his dispersal and hualian begin traveling together to find Wu Ming’s “lost beloved” (they figure it out eventually). In this case, Wu Ming comes a bit too close to resting in peace
as for the au in question, here’s my old doodles for it:

Imagine Shen Qingqiu gets a face full of pollen that lowers his inhibitions and now he can’t stop the severe cuteness aggression he gets when he sees his husband
Softly biting Luo Binghe’s cheeks, kissing his forehead, snuggling his face into a tight hug while nuzzling the top of his head
Luo Binghe had never felt more alive. Although, this quickly nosedives as soon as he pinches Liu Qingge’s cheeks, exclaiming how funny his shidi is at times
🌈Bingqiu
imagining an au where shen qingqiu (yuan) sacrifices himself to save binghe by throwing himself into the abyss to avoid pushing him, but he just straight up dies (maybe the peak lords can tell when one among them dies or something idk but point is he isn't wandering around the abyss he is d. e. d. dead)
at the point in the story around the immortal alliance conference, binghe is sqq's head disciple, so he would probably become acting qing jing peak lord in sqq's absence. however, the peak lords are all promoted and ascend together, without replacement if one dies, so binghe would never actually become a peak lord by name until the next generation took their roles
cut to teenage binghe, still growing and gangly, sitting in his dead master's old chair during a peak lord meeting, viewed by all the others as a subpar stand in, a fledgling cultivator still wet behind the ears. at the same time, binghe is mourning his shizun, his love, and yet he must replace him
it pains him to use his shizun's things because his master no longer has hands with which to hold them, speak on behalf of his shizun because the man no longer has a mouth with which to share his thoughts, train his shizun's disciples because shen qingqiu is gone but the peak needs its lord
binghe is trying desperately to hide his demonic heritage given his recently broken seal, but his emotions flare everytime his sees a remnant of shizun (a comb with a loose strand of hair, an unfinished book with dogeared pages, a cup of cold tea left out when they'd rushed to leave in time for the conference, much to binghe's chagrin). heightened emotions = heightened demonic trait presence, and it's fucking with binghe's head SEVERELY. he cannot eat, sleep, think, dream without replaying his shizun's last moments over and over again and then having to struggle to cover up his zuyin before the sect leader shows up unannounced at the bamboo house as he tends to do (binghe feels an odd kinship with the man as he stares longingly at shen qingqiu's things, but he mostly feels protective, knowing his shizun wouldn't want his things disturbed)
at the same time he's suddenly in a position of power over his old tormentors, and torn between wanting to enact his just retribution and wanting to honor his shizun's efforts to build camaraderie and peace among the peak disciples. still, he takes some perverse satisfaction from making ming fan do his bidding
anyway, the years go by and luo binghe is so totally Fine (not), has adjusted to his duties and so forth and become a commanding presence and respected cultivator across the jianghu in his own right. but the aching pain of losing his shizun remains an ever present, raw, oozing wound, and people are starting to notice. he goes from a wide-eyed kid with boots too big to fill, to a behemoth of a man with cultivation that rivals even the sect leader and a presence that sends shivers down the spines of other sects (for one reason or another...). he develops a hair trigger temper, quicker to anger and disgust than anything else, and slow to forgive or forget. the other peak lords yearn for the gentle sqq (and some even feel the mean one from years and years before would be less volatile and unruly). sympathy over a lost master only goes so far, after all, and binghe is running through it quick (he can't believe his shizun managed these idiotic peak lords with such grace, and begins to understand why the man used to be so cold toward them). he knows shizun would want him to be better, that shizun gave his life for binghe for a reason, but it gets harder to remember that everyday that goes by where his memory of his shizun's face grows ever blurry, ever distant, and his dream abilities are less and less able to accurately replicate those lazy days spent serving his loving master in the bamboo house
one day, he goes as far as stringing a disciple up in the woodshed and brandishing the discipline whip with the intent to strike before he comes to his senses
so he asks the sect leader for permission to enter seclusion, under the guise of settling his mind
yue qingyuan, who was pained everyday to see someone sitting in his shidi's, his xiao-jiu's rightful place, grants the request with no questions asked
binghe pretends to enter the ling xi caves, says a farewell to the other peak lords (who are not as discrete in their relief as they think they are), but in reality he travels to the demon realm to find a way into the abyss. he'll either die and end his own suffering, or he'll find whatever remnants of his shizun remain, splattered across the bottom of that accursed place, and bring them home
of course, he soon comes across xin mo, and the sword tells him exactly how to get his shizun back...
