Damn that shit with Regina pretending to be Claudia for Louis is so illustrative of his wider relationship to women. It always got me in episode one that he spent so much time with Lily using her as a beard and then did not even seem to care when Lestat killed her. He has always used women for his own financial and personal gain but this instance is so visceral as he continues to take Claudia’s agency away from her even from beyond the grave.

samira mohan whose father died when she was young due to racial inequality and medication mismanagement. who dedicates her life to trying to be a good, compassionate, kind doctor in a specialty where it is hard to form connections with your patients. samira mohan who was belittled by both her peers who called her slow-mo, who thought that just because the reason they picked emergency medicine is because they can't sit still and need the stimulation, that her reasoning wasn't as valid.

samira mohan who was bullied and torn down by her attending at every possible moment purely because he saw himself in her. samira mohan who never had a father figure and never got to see her mother in love who now has to watch her mom jet off with some guy she's never met and sell the only place samira has left of her dad. samira who watches every single one of her coworkers soul bond with another but none of them even know that about her, to the point where they don't even ask her medical history when she thinks she's developing the same thing that killed her father.

samira never wanted to do literally anything other than emergency medicine and anyone pretending like she did because she was floating the idea around out of insecurity did not watch the show properly. she wanted everyone she pitched the idea to leave to tell her no, this is where you belong. you are an emergency medicine doctor. don't move to psychiatry, you want to be here.

samira mohan who genuinely looks up to robby despite all his misgivings, who wants him to tutor her, to teach her, to guide her. only for all of his efforts to be focused on his white male suboordinates, and (one of) their mismanagement of medication.

Why the fuck would they not have Samira in season 3. I think I am in mourning. Guess Robby simply gets to verbally abuse his subordinate and then we never see them together again. What a great story thread.

People keep saying that the Doctor doing what he did to Kid was out of character but well… the Doctor has committed genocide multiple times.

The politics of the Interstellar Song Contest are bad but I don’t think he was out of character in that moment.

I swear to gods every time someone points out that the Doctor is acting out of character by doing something cruel or violent people come out of the woodwork to go "Well it can't be out of character!!! the doctor's comitted genocide before!!!!!"

You do understand that the things other regenerations did decades ago is not relevant at all to the characterization of the 14th Doctor??????? Yes it is fucking out of character for him to torture a man. Because that's what his current characterization is -- someone that it makes no sense to do this with. That is in fact how characterization works. It changes over time. And it's extremely out of character for 14 to do something like this out of nowhere.

Like come on. This argument was old in 2011. You are just admitting you don't actually know what "in character" means if you think saying shit the character did forever ago somehow trumps the current personality the character has been written to have.

Ok so I wrote an insanely long response to this but I really don't want to get into an arguement where it even looks like I am defending an episode I actively hate. If you genuinely want to know why I don't think its a mischaracterisation and are willing to read way too many thoughts on it let me know but if not thats also fine you are more than free to disagree with me.

I really really really wanted the fifteenth doctor to meet Martha Jones and I am so so sad that will never happen now. I personally really loved the Martha Jones character arch because it is very clear in season 3 that the Doctor is in the wrong and re-visit that with the first black Doctor would have been so interesting but instead we get the white woman Martha was constantly compared to.

Putting everything else aside the conversation between the Rani and Mel sounded like two jilted ex lovers seeing each other again.
