A large number of American Jews have been inducted into whiteness. Remember that it wasn’t always that way. Also, so many of us are black and brown poc and the mainstream image of Jews does not include Sephardim or Mizrahim or beta Israel or non white passing Ashkenazim.

“He’s not whitewashing his own play (well…not yet. Arguably once the amateur productions start happening, and he authorizes all-white casts…); but he is offering a version of American history that consciously glosses over the many ways in which the American Revolution and founding were pretty awful for Americans of color. He is whitewashing American history, both in the sense of emphasizing white people and in the sense of downplaying the very real evil of the choices made by the founding fathers.

This is because Hamilton’s political project is to argue that people of color should have equal ownership in the founding myths of America, and an equal right to celebrate them. Hamilton is fundamentally a patriotic show, celebrating an America of inclusion. And it is fair to ask that in part Hamilton be evaluated on how well it achieves those goals.

But it is also fair to challenge the political ideology underlying those terms, to question the wisdom of such simplified pro-American propaganda. The counter-argument is that maybe America’s myths DON’T deserve to be celebrated, insofar as they are founded in white supremacy and other forms of violent oppression. And Hamilton is a neoliberal multicultural argument against such radicalism as much as it is an argument against a whites-only conservative view of America.”

FCKH8: Is a for-profit company that exploits oppressed groups for money. They’re also wildly uninformed, and spread misogyny, cissexism and bi/panphobia, as well as stealing their posts/designs (x)

Autism Speaks: They spend most of their money on researching a way to eliminate autism, heighten the stigma against autism and don’t have a single autistic person on their board (x)

You have to read about these amazing, badass ladies. Fire eating became their symbol, here’s a blurb on its origin.

[It] grew out of tragedy. Last year, a lesbian and a gay man, Hattie Mae Cohens and Brian Mock, burned to death in Salem, Ore., after a Molotov cocktail was tossed into the apartment they shared. A month later, on Halloween, at a memorial to the victims in New York City, the Avengers (then newly organized) gave their response to the deaths. They ate fire, chanting, as they still do: “The fire will not consume us. We take it and make it our own.”
