hii king! okay so i’ve been seeing more talk about the upcoming fic and everyone’s referring to it as the apartment complex fic and im getting fomo because i try to keep up with the posts but i think i missed you speaking about this…can you share when u started brainstorming it and what the general concept is but like without spoilers obviously! i guess this is me asking if i can get a summary of all you’ve shared about it so far!

🤣🤣 I'm sorry I don't mean to leave everyone out!! This actually came from a comment I replied to someone with referencing an apartment complex, hence why you can't find it.

But I can still give you a breakdown of everything I've shared!!

I made a post about leaving Kageyama and Hinata out of drafting. Basically a year ago the rough skeleton of this plot came to me, and while I don't normally draft my fics, the concept takes place in an apartment complex, so for easy reference, I had started putting characters into room numbers to fill apartments and outline different relationships, who was neighbours, etc. This is the document I had found that somehow had 30 haikyuu characters listed, but not Hinata Shoyo and Kageyama. Hence why I found it so funny. This is also the post where I mention the apartment complex in the comments.

It's a massive ensemble fic, however it is still, unfortunately, the same core group that it always is. I tried to fill the apartment complex with more minor characters, but unfortunately, as my premise and plot shifted and adjusted, it's not likely to be a wild leftfield swing in my writing. Though you'll see some less used faces popping up!

The villain character is a true and proper villain. Unlike previous stories that have focused more on realistic antagonists, and having characters rooted in the story (like Kubo and Nusan), the villain for this is explicitly designed to be a villain, to cause as much harm as possible, and to be fought against. There is no secondary motivation for them.

Genre wise, it's a psychological thriller with just a dash of horror and fantasy! My goal is for slightly shorter chapter lengths, probably between 5-6k, and I'm expecting it to sit somewhere between 50-100k, but you know me 🤭

This fic has vastly changed since my original draft outline had started, but I really, really love the story that it's become, and hope I get the opportunity to share it with you! It is, of course, another dominantly Daichi POV, but you'll get to see all your favourite ships, plus a handful some of you might not give a shit about, and I will be putting them through the torment nexus.

HIII KING! i’m currently reading alien americana and i was wondering something about oikawa and daichis relationship! i love how they understand each other to a level no one else will because hello believer and alien but also more to it, but i wondered if it could be possibly seen or some ties to a qpr! i know they have their own boyfriends of course, but even they see their closeness yet dont doubt their love for them. my actually question would be if you would consider qpr daioi for future projects or even this!

I have often described DaiOi in Paranormality to be platonic soulmates and definitely queerplatonic. The core of Paranormality is a romance between Daichi and Oikawa, in a cosmic sense and in a literal sense. They are simultaneously both a metaphor and wholly, painfully human, and two halves of an old, old whole. Yes, they have their other traditional romances, but that is definitely not what this story is about, and everything will come back to those two. PLEASE continue to read Paranormality as a DaiOi QPR, or even as romantic and polyamorous, that is the intended interpretation.

I am CONSTANTLY thinking about QPR Daichi/Oikawa. ALSO, I'm usually thinking about them as a normal ship, as it's one of if not my favourite Daichi ship, at the moment. If you haven't already, you can read "Time Enough to Risk It All" which heavily features romantic DaiOi as a tragedy (daisuga & Iwaoi endgame) or "Island Boy," which is romantic and happy ending Daichi/Oikawa.

And the MAJORITY of my Captains stories feature on Daichi and Oikawa as a duo. Rest assured, if there is one thing I'm going to write, it's Daichi and Oikawa, platonic, romantic, QPR or cosmically intertwined soulmates. One way or another. That's my niche and I'm sticking to it.

i LOVE kingshighway fics because at the end of the day, they’ll always be good. it could be fics i haven’t read yet but right off the bat i know it’s kingshighway therefore it’s good. this isn’t glaze, it’s just #noticing WHICH IS IMPORTANT because it’s hard to find writers who are consistently throwing out work that not only is like wow im the perfect audience but shows how much time and passion is in it. like it’s RARE to find original and creative themes like the works they have🥹

rewatching haikyuu for the millionth time and remembering every second why i love it and why it had such a big impact on people. there’s a lot of symbolism and realistic characters. even if you’ve never played volleyball, it’s so easy to relate and get sucked into the storyline and matches because of how relatable it all is. for example, im watching season four(date tech practice match) and it’s making me realize how much i genuinely relate to kageyama and why i always had such a like for him and his character. like yes that’s my son but also ur so real to me and ily (also daichi is so me so if that doesn’t make sense that’s fine cuz it only has to make sense to me❤️)

Sugawara got really used to the subtle flex of having a boyfriend who was so reliably hitting the "right" things to do or say and being unintentionally incredibly romantic just by his nature, and as a result was a littttllle self important because Daichi would really casually say things like "why would I ever want to go somewhere without you?" when Suga went fishing for compliments over "oh, I bet your middle school friends dont want me crashing a reunion" which is all important context to understand why he is so salty when the two biggest drama queens in the world (Hinata and Kageyama) show up and start saying shit like "with me you're invincible" three times a day now everyone's talking about how insane Hinata and Kageyama are for each other and he's lost his pedestal as the person who was most loved by their boyfriend and the WORST part is he can't even complain to Daichi about it because Daichi never even knew what he was doing to begin with so he doesn't realize he's being out competed. Why are Hinata and Kageyama rolling around on the gym floor together.

Hanamaki and Mattsun lowkey forget that they're friends with Iwa and Oikawa because they get so caught up in making fun of them and mocking them and generally consider themselves a duo and really do forget that they actually both individually befriended both of the other third years and so there's like a winter's day where Makki spends 4 hours at Oikawa's house hanging out and just doing what friends do and having a great time and suddenly halfway through the day Makki realizes whats happening and turns to Oikawa and is like "dude, Legit? I actually like you." And Oikawa is just like "thank you, friend of three years."

And what if I said Atsumu and Osamu's shared secret crush on Kita is actually vitally important for their emotional development. That it's the first time their competitive nature doesn't mutually better them, but rather puts a clear win/lose condition in front of them, where they get genuinely pissed off and see each other as an obstacle in the way of what they desire and not the brother they want to conquer the world with. What if I said it was really good that they got this experience over something that ultimately didn't matter, because in 12 or so months Osamu tells his brother he's quitting volleyball, and Atsumu realizes he's the only one leaving Osaka, but it's not the end of the world for either of them because they'd already broken their childhood fantasy of always being on the same time. What. What then? What do I do with that?

Kageyama is all "what are you, my mom?" every time Daichi is hovering or controlling and misses no opportunity to condescendingly assert that he doesn't need an overbearing mother hen on his shoulder until he's a new driver and he accidentally rear ends someone and calls Daichi in the midst of a panic attack on the side of the road asking what to do.

rewatching season two haikyuu and the concept of kageyama practicing his butt off to complete a different type of setting because he wants hinata to achieve and grow and in order for him to do that he needs to be able to accommodate him and if that means learning a new technique that will literally be mostly BECAUSE of him then he will do it. the concept of them growing and changing because they’re so used to each other but they grow and change so they can get stronger and win together
