The Thief
Alright so I'm starting the first book in A Queen's Thief series and im gonna liveblog it
Next journey plucked from the shelf
ok let’s talk about six of crows. of the main characters alone there is:
- a physically disabled boy who suffers from severe PTSD - a dark skinned middle eastern-coded girl who was a victim of sex trafficking but escaped and vowed revenge on all sex traffickers - a bisexual-coded girl who is explicitly described as being larger and not stick-thin but is still described as beautiful, sexual, and incredibly powerful - an explicitly bisexual dark skinned POC boy who ends up in a m/m relationship - an explicitly gay boy who is looked down on by his family for severe reading and learning disabilities but who instead becomes and incredible scientist and musician - and matthias
basically please read six of crows & crooked kingdom by leigh bardugo if you want your faith in the future of YA lit restored
coffee, waffles, and used books — what more could a girl want?
This was my spring break project while my parents were on vacation. I hope my mom loves it!

Mates
(WARNING: SOME ACOWAR SPOILERS, I mean not really like I talk about some of the new characters its not earth shattering, but WARNING ANYWAY)
Okay so I don’t really know how to put this in words but there’s been a lot of conversation about mates since ACOWAR came out and I’ve got a theory. I started to notice this in ACOMAF but while re-reading ACOWAR it started to make a lot more sense.
So Rhys’ parents felt the mating bond immediately right? They didn’t know each other but they saw each other and it snapped into place. And in the end they ended up being a poor match. Now, with Lucien and Elaine it seems like they’re an odd match. They don’t quite fit together. (Don’t get me wrong I love elucien but if you’ve read ACOWAR then you know what I’m talking about, not bad just not quite right) Lucien felt that bond snap immediately even thought he didn’t know Elaine at all. Also we know Tamlins parents weren’t well matched although I can’t remember if it was ever mentioned how/when they felt the bond.
But, Rhys and Feyre knew eachother and spent time together and arguably fell in love before the bond snapped. So did Kallias and Vivianne and Miryam and Drakon. And these three bonds seem to be lasting, they’re good matches for one another.
My point is, I think bonds that snap into place without the two parties knowing each other tend to be bad matches because there is no mutual trust or feelings there, they are only together because of the bond. Whereas those who know eachother in one capacity or another before the bond is in place have lasting and healthy relationships.
(Which btw is where I think Nessian is headed, hopefully)
