𝐑ain was falling heavily over Lumière. Lightning tore through and lit up the sky, and the strong wind made the street signs sway violenty.
𝐋ost in a deep sleep, you didn’t hear the raindrops tapping against your beedroom window. As the day of the gommage drew near, the final preparation for the expedition kept pilling up — long, stressful, exhausting — so the moment your head touched the pillow, you fell strainght into the arms of Morpheus.
𝐓he storm began to rumble fircely outside once more when a sudden, violent flash of lightning struck the window of your room.
𝐘ou woke with a jolt. Your breath came short, your chest tight, as you tried to steady your breathing, your left hard pressed against your heart in an attempt to calm its frantic beating.
𝐎nce your breathing had returned to normal, you turned your gaze toward the window. A relieved sigh escaped your lips as you realized that the cause of your abrupt awakening was nothing more than the raging storm outside. « it’s only the storm… everything’s fine… » you through.
𝐘ou slowly lay back down in your bed. Longing to feel and hold against you the presence of your compagnion, Lune, you reached out toward her side of the mattress. But sadly, your hand met only the silk of the sheets, accompanied by the soft coldness of her absence.
𝐘ou pushed up onto your elbows, letting your gaze wander across the room in the hope of finding your beloved there. « Lune ? » But only silence answered you, wrapped in the distant roar of the storm outside.
𝐀 disappointed sigh escaped your lips, You knew your wife better than anyone, and you knew that at this hour she was likely in her study, working on preparation for the next expedition, desperately trying to queit the relentless storm of her own thoughts.
𝐘ou rose slowly from the bed. You opened the drawer of your bedside table, where a small box of matches rested. You took one, struck it, and lit a candle whose trembling flame gently illuminated the room. Talking it with you, you walked toward the only place in your apartement where your companion could be found : her study.

𝐘ou were walking down the dark hallway of your appartement ; the only light came from the flickering candle flame, occasionally replaced by the bright fleeting flash of lightning.
𝐘ou continued your progress down the hallway, and soon a timid glow appeared in the distance, slipping through the crack of the office door. That fragile light, quivering like a breath, confirmed your wife’s presence, surely fully absorbed in her work.
𝐑esting you free hand against the slightly open door, you pushed it gently, letting a faint creak drift across the room. In the scene that unfolded before you, you caught sight of her — your wife, the love of your life, the one who could make your heart tremble with a single smile. As you expected, she was there at her desk, submerged in a true and literal ocean of paperwork.
𝐀 reassuring sigh finally slipped from your lips, while the worry gnawing at your stomach slowly faded away.
𝐘ou gently blew on the flame, and the candle’s fragile light went out with one last quiver ; then you set the candlestick down on a piece of furniture near the door.
𝐘ou approached her softly, your dressing gown brushing against your knees with every step. « Lune ? » only a few murmurs reached you, drifting words that were not meant for you. Lune remained entirely absorbed in her work, her head tilted, speaking to herself in a low voice, unaware of your presence.
𝐅rom what you could gather, she was still struggling with the embarkation point of expedition zero. For several days now, she had been exhausting herself over it without making the slightest progress, slowly slipping into a quiet obsession.
𝐀s you reach your wife’s side, you gently slip your arms around her shoulders, drawing her twoard you — just as you had wished to do when the strom first pulled you from sleep.
𝐘ou feel her shiver at the unexpected touch, but Lune relaxes almost instantly, lifting her gaze from her papers to meet yours, warm with affection. A soft smile blooms on her lips as she wraps her hands around yours.
« 𝐃id i wake you ? » she murmurs softly. You returned a smile just like hers and slowly shook your head to reassure her. « No, it was the storm outside that woke me. But your absence… that i never fail to notice. »
𝐀 soft slipped from her lips. « l’m sorry. It’s just that… i can’t seem to chase the boarding point from my thoughts. » she admittend, avoiding your gaze as she turned back to the documents. « I know. But you also have to think about yourself… and sleep, Lune, is part of that. »
𝐘ou felt her fingers tighten around yours before she finally let go. You shiefted slightly to catch a glimpse of her face — her furrowed browns, among so many other signs, betrayed the anger, frustration, worry and fear that filled her. Seeing her like this broke your heart.
« 𝐈t’s far more complicated than that ! » she burst out, finally giving in to the pressure, her voice trembling yet strong. « Ever since l was a child, l’ve been immersed in expeditions. My parents guided me… shaped me. Thanks to them, l became an explorer. So if l’m incapable of finding that damned point of embarkation… then what am l supposed to be ?! »
𝐋une continued her monologue, letting worlds heavy with too much weight spill out. As you watched the struggle raging within her, your heart broke all over again. You cloud sense every effort she made to remain strong, even though the cracks were already there, wide and gaping. Oh… how you wished she could see herself through your eyes. You stepped closer to her gently and framed her gaze. Startled by this tender gesture, Lune abruptly cut off her flow of world.
« 𝐋une. » her name left your lips for the third time, filled with infinite tenderness. As your eyes met hers, you cloud read the tangled web of emotions running through her. « You are so much more than… so much more than a member of the expedition. You are an incredible musician ; in Lumière, people stop listen when you make your guitar resonate. And you are also the most talkative person l know, capable of talking for hours about what you love. » A soft laugh escaped her then, and a shy smile gently softened her features. « You are my wife. The most precious person in my world. No words are strong enough to express the unconditional love l feel for you, nor to describe how your very existence lights up my life. You make me feel loved. »
𝐖ith infinite gentleness, she removed your hands from her cheeks and held them in hers, placing a delicate kiss upon your knuckles. « I’m sorry, my love… l should never have raised my voice or let my angers spill over onto you. » she whispered, her gaze briefly avoiding yours, overcome with shame. « You have nothing to blame yourself for. You and me, always together — in good times and in the hardest ones. »
𝐀 wide smile lit up your face, instantly mirrored by your partner. Oh… how precious her smile was to you. Slowly, you moved closer, erasing the distance between you, until you lips met in a tender kiss. It carried within it all the unconditional love that bound you together — a love so deep that no worlds cloud ever truly express it.
𝐖ith regret, you pulled away, your breath too short to prolong the kiss, yet keeping that tender smile upon your lips. « I think it’s time for us both to go back to bed. » Your fingers intertwined with hers, and you led her with you toward your bedroom — away from the desk, away from the doubts and fears that had kept her awake.
