Songs for a Magician who Loved as hard as she Burns Bright.
Different Kind of Party // Sonya
Sonya, after god knows how long of hanging out in an empty room, realized that roomates had been reassigned by Cal. At first she wanted nothing to do with this, not wanting to leave the room she had shared with Sin. But after a while more of moping she realized she was being a little pathetic and packed up her stuff and moved into the room with Toshi, resolving to try not to hide anymore. So far it was…Less successful than she’d hoped. The magician was still prone to staying in her room, and occasionally staring blankly at Toshi like he wasn’t supposed to be there. Though she was starting to get better. The Russian was laying on her bed staring up at the ceiling when she heard someone repeatedly trying to get into the room and having no success. After a while the noise stopped, but Sonya hopped up and opened her door to see who it was, stepping out into the hallway and spotting Yoshiro. "Ah…друг It has been a long time…Was that you making all of that noise?"
Fuck. As soon as the door opened, he had only managed to shuffle a few doors down, nowhere near escaping into his room. With a swift pivot oon his heel, he turned to smile over at Sonya with a tired wave. No reason to run from her now; he’d hardly even seen her recently. She had every reason to hole up, of course, ever since what happened with her roommate, but… well, he felt selfish admitting he missed her.
Wait, what was that she said?
"Huh- what about…. drugs??" As his wave slowed to a stop, the disoriented stare on his face shifted into a confused, hazy squint. He could have sworn that’s what she said, but. "Er- I mean- no, nevermind. Uh…"
Surely she wouldn’t think he was TOO strange for trying the wrong door, right? There was no reason to lie about something like that. His brain took a few seconds to catch up with his thoughts as he just stood, vacantly staring at her with a finger up like he’s about to explain something logically and with science.
"…I… was checking your door for… c…cracks. In case someone tried to… to crack it. The door." You know how those sinister door crackers are.
"Drugs...Oh. I am to be sorry, that is how you say friends, in Russian! I am not sure the word in japanese. Perhaps you could be telling me? I would like to learn. I did not mean to be calling you the drug." She looks at him curiously, she hadn't spoken to him forever (And had missed him amongst the self inflicted angst) but man he was not looking okay. "Door crackers? I love crackers! But I am to suppose that is not what you meant by crackers...Is it? Has someone been trying to...break in? Oh dear..." She steps out to stand near Yoshiro and put a hand on his shoulder. "You are not to be looking so good. Though I suppose, I shouldn't be saying such. I am a mess myself. Do you want to sit down a while?" Oddly enough, even just getting out and talking a little was having a positive effect on her, seeing that, she wasn't the only one looking bad, made her less focused on herself and more focused on Yoshiro. She was really concerned for him.
Different Kind of Party // Sonya
"Stupid… fricking key."
This wasn’t the first time Yoshiro tried to open the wrong door. In fact, it was probably the third or fourth in the past two weeks. Shoving his ID card and rattling it inside of Sonya and Toshi’s door was hardly a graceful way to announce his presence, but here he was, desperately trying to push the handle open. It took him a good three tries of this to realize that not only was he at the wrong door, but he wasn’t even on the right side of the hallway.
It had been a long week, and it was really starting to get to him.
Yuu’s coffee ban for him was hardly helping. Cutting out on the copious amounts of caffeine he’d been shoving in his gullet since day one was very quickly reminding him of the tired, clumsy nature of his actions. Slowly taking his hand away from the door handle, he started to sort of creep back and away from his loud embarrassing mistake. Maybe neither of them were home. Maybe he could get back over to his room before one of them answered the door.
Or maybe not.
So far it was...Less successful than she'd hoped. The magician was still prone to staying in her room, and occasionally staring blankly at Toshi like he wasn't supposed to be there. "Ah...друг It has been a long time...Was that you making all of that noise?"
Contractual Obligation [Sonya]
Kneeling down in the station’s kitchen, Hayate Gacchiri could be found going quietly over what seemed to be every bit of food and drink. Occasionally writing in a notebook, he was no doubt continuing the inventory he seemed to take despite the situation. By this point, it had all become routine to him… And in the circumstances they were in, even a routine could become a very reassuring thing. If nothing else, it couldn’t hurt to be vigilant regarding even these seemingly-small matters.
He seemed to finish after some time, closing the notebook with a slightly audible snap of paper and thin cardboard before moving to pocket it. Finding nobody around him as he moved to a chair, he let out a quiet sigh as he removed his electronic ID card from his pocket and simply stared at it for some time. While he certainly didn’t show any emotion other than a cold professionalism, there was perhaps a bit of exhaustion in the sigh he’d made.
Perhaps the recent events had been more draining than he’d imagined, seeing as he failed to notice the approaching footsteps as he tapped quietly at the card for quite a while, staring at it intently… When he was finally aware of another presence in the room, he suddenly stiffened slightly and returned to his professional smile as he swiftly pocketted the ID and turned his head in greeting.
"… Ah. Greetings… It’s been some time since we’ve spoken, I believe… My apologies. I suppose that idea of mine was a bit ill-timed."
Sonya had entered the kitchen, though not really to eat. She'd found it hard to even think about eating without memories of her home and her family running through her head. Her family, that was in trouble now, all because whatever sick bastard had programmed Cal wasn't entertained enough. She'd only seen one of her dear family members but who was to say that's all they had. They could have more hostages, waiting in the wings...Of course they'd show the most vulnerable of them all on screen though. The Tightrope walker, Aria had been tied to a chair, with a blindfold over her eyes. Though at least that was rather normal, as Aria constantly wore one back home, for her acts. It was really a useless thing, as she was blind but...Sonya shook her head slightly, trying to keep calm., trying not to think of the terror she'd seen in her little sister's face. This motive had truly gotten to her, she no longer was afraid of someone dying, she wanted someone to die, even though when she caught herself thinking that she fell sick. The Magician was in a bad way when she noticed Hayate had seen her, and she waved, almost lifelessly. "Hello....Ah? So that was you with the snow?" The barest flicker of a smile passed over her face. "Perhaps...But it was nice, while it lasted...."
Is that a hare in your hair. [Sonya + Valu]
Valu had decided to play around with the bunnies, they were mocking her from a distance and well. The bunnies back home were always adorable. Didn’t like, the yurkies claim a bunny here? Who cared, she wanted a bunny that wasn’t taken yet. Maybe an urge to have a bunny to herself was normal but she really wanted a bunny.
The drug walked over to a cute rabbit, pure white like they use in magic shows. “Perfect,” Valu hummed as she scooped it up. “What am I going to call you…” Mary Jane seemed like a good name.
Sonya was once again on her way to the new sector, wanting to visit the bunnies. She'd finally started to feel better, spending hours with them was definitely a help with her emotional state. After all, they reminded of her bunny back home, and all thoughts of home were comforting ones. There weren't any bunnies that too closely resembled Tori or she'd probably have kidnapped it, so it was probably for the best. AS she was too busy thinking about the rabbits as she walked, she nearly walked into Valu, stopping at the last second. "I am sorry! I did not notice you." she took a step back as she spoke and bowed her head a little, and then examined who she had nearly run in to. She recognized the ringleader and gave her a smile. "You are to be seeing the rabbits too da? They are wonderful...I am glad we have them, they help to keep mind off things. I am thinking so! I come up here to feed them all the time, when things are slow"
Now it's time to say goodbye To the things we loved And the innocence of youth How the time seemed to fly From our carefree lives And the solitude and peace we always knew
All That Glitters is Gold (Or Sonya's Cape) [Yoshiro]
After the motive announcement, Sonya excused herself from her “date” for a bit, to think mostly, pacing back and forth. Money…wasn’t really important to her, she was pretty happy as she was, though it’d be good for the circus if there was some spare cash. It still wasn’t worth killing over though, the other members of the troupe would never forgive her if they learned where money had come from. She continued to pace for a while, her thoughts a mess. She didn’t want anyone to die, not again but…This motive was also promising. Money was something everyone needed really, and such a large sum at that. With a sigh she decides to try and find her date again, but spots Yoshiro in the distance, and ditches her initial plan to go and talk to him. It’d be a while, and she wanted to get a look at his fancy clothes too.
"Hello Yoshiro-san! Today was good and then not, da? How are you holding up?"
He’d finally decided that staring at the gold and talking to everyone about it was WAY more of a downer than he really wanted to deal with. Shit was starting to go bad again pretty fast, and Yoshiro didn’t even want to think about it. He’d been avoiding talking to anyone else at this point, mostly to avoid the topic.
Soon as he heard Sonya’s voice, though, he turned to her with interest.
"Ah, Nonna." He’d gotten used to her name at this point. "…It was alright, I guess. I’m f-fine, really. Nothing to worry about. The dance has been… sort of fun." Or, at least it was for like 20 minutes earlier. The rest kind of sucked. Looking at Sonya as he spoke, he noticed she looked REALLY nice. A lot nicer than him, at least. Sure, he looked okay at one point, but…
"You’re dressed up." All at once, he remembered the brief conversation he had with Sin earlier. He smirked just a tiny bit. "For Chang-kun?"
"Yes. It was fun, until...Well let us not talk about that. I have done enough thinking about it and I am sure you have too, da? You are looking very nice!" She smiles at him, trying to chagne the subject so that things aren't awkward. No need to think about that motive for now at least. Sonya did kind of wonder what the stain on his vest was though. Punch maybe? It was kind of pink.
"Da, am dressed up, though not for what I had orig-" She stops in the middle of her sentence and blushes, looking down for a moment, in a rare moment of embarrassment and nods. "D-da. I wanted to...Look good for this. He ah, asked me here, before we were given assigned partners..And I was finally going to use your advice. But I...Well I have not to be seeing him yet and I have lost courage."

It'd be a while, and she wanted to get a look at his fancy clothes too.
"Hello Yoshiro-san! Today was good and then not, da? How are you holding up?"
SYNTAX ERROR [Sonya]
Sonya finally located her “date”, who was standing in front of the food. He really wasn’t hard to miss, with his totally casual clothes and cool hair. Huh, He was kind of cute, Sonya mused, before blinking and shaking the thought out of her head. She hadn’t realized she’d been storming over, her mind was a little bogged down by the fact that instead of getting to go with her roomie, she was going with a stranger. There was nothing wrong with this, and making friends was good but, she’d planned to finally follow up on Yoshiro’s advice on what to do about Sin. Looks like that’d have to wait for now though.
"Ah, You may call me Nonna if you would to be liking, that would do fine. Or Sonya. And you are Shin yes? Pleasre to meet you! Ah…No dancing? I suppose is okay…" She sounds midly disappointed, but she smiles and nods. "Yes please! The food looks, most…" She stops for the word, wracking her brain for a moment until it clicks. "The food looks most Delicious, da?"
Well then. She’d taken that better than he’d expected. Not like he’s gonna complain or anything, though. He’d resolved that no matter how much she’d cried or gotten upset, he wasn’t going to dance. He’s still not going to. Besides, she’s like almost half a foot taller than him, and if he approaches her he knows exactly where his face will end up, and he wants none of that.
"Ivanov3," he says, completely ignoring her preference of names. At her heavily accented pronunciation of his own name, he nods. "Yeah, Shin, Shinsuke, Tsujii-san, Tsujii-sama… it’s whatever, really.” Though, the emphasis on one of the titles suggests that he’d much prefer it over the others, he doesn’t push it.
"Yeah, no, I don’t dance." He pops the olive into his mouth as he slides his electroID back into his pocket. Picking up a small skewer of olives, he holds it out for the magician to take. "It’s alright. Better than ‘space food’ or some shit." He still doesn’t believe that they’re in space, but hey, he’ll play along.
She blinks a little and then shrugs slightly, at this rate she'd actually be used to her last name again. She hardly used it, except for official documents, as she had a stage last name she far preferred. She doubted anyone on the station could pronounce it though. "That will be fine then, da." Sonya tilts her head a little, she knew san, kun and chan but not sama. Hrm. "Tsujii-sama then? I have not heard, honorific before but, can use if you would like!" Poor, clueless Sonya, far too eager to make friends with the new kid. "To be honest, I do not dance either. I do not know how! I was to try with a friend, but he is...paired up with someone else. So I shall hang out with you, and the food. Still good time. " She smiles brightly at him and takes the olives, nibbling on them, they defintiely were better than space food. Or what she imagined space food to taste like. "Da, Very good. Is Olove?" Thats not even a word, but she doesn't know that.
SYNTAX ERROR [Sonya]
After rereading the invitation and taking in the not-so-subtle threat, Shinsuke had reconsidered his position on the whole ‘dance’ thing, though his stance on the whole ‘dancing at the dance’ concept had not changed: no chance in hell. In fact, not only was he not going to dance, he wasn’t even going to wear the fancy-schmancy shitty suit that AM had provided him. If his normal outfit wasn’t good enough, well, then too fuckin’ bad.
At the dance, the software developer had headed directly toward the snack table, and that’s where he’s been ever since. He has absolutely no interest in dancing to the abysmal music that he attempts to ignore, but food? He can always get behind food. He snacks absently, eyes wandering around the room, trying to find something interesting to focus on. Maybe he should just—
Abrupt movement out of the corner of his eye in his direction catches his attention, and he looks up just in time to see a taller girl storming toward him. Y’know, he could be wrong, but he doesn’t think she’s advancing toward him that rapidly because she wants the olive currently held in one pudgy hand as he dicks around on his ID with the other. This must be his “date”.
"Oh, uh, hey Ivanov3. Sonya3? Not sure which you’d prefer. I see you’ve noticed me standing here in ‘not a suit’. Well, that’s not going to change. I hope you weren’t planning on actually dancing, because that’s not happening either. Hors d’oeuvre?”
Sonya finally located her "date", who was standing in front of the food. He really wasn't hard to miss, with his totally casual clothes and cool hair. Huh, He was kind of cute, Sonya mused, before blinking and shaking the thought out of her head. "The food looks most Delicious, da?"
A Shocking Face Heel Turn [Shinobu]
Sonya was still reeling from the trial and subsequent execution of the shoemaker, who she'd barely even seen asides from the initial introduction. There was just, so much happening at once...A murder, and then someone had been killed for breaking a rule...And then the trial and all that went with that. The Magician was very shaken by the sudden turn of events, and wondered if she could have done something to prevent it. Of course there was such a slim chance for that it wasn't even worth thinking about but, she couldn't help it.
Deciding to try and suppress her thoughts, she headed for the exercise room, figuring that physical exertion would help her clear her head out some. Sonya sighed and went over to the weights, and grabbing a couple. After she'd worked on her arms for a bit, she'd go to one of the treadmills, or the hamster wheel, she thought to herself as she removed her cape and hat, setting them aside so they wouldn't get damaged.
Step One [Lisa]
After the announcement by Caligula Sonya was determined to not let anyone fall into it's trap. A wish in exchange for a life? It couldn't be anything but a trap, nothing in this world could simply grant someone's wish. The magician knew she couldn't stop the ai, but maybe she could keep people from falling to it. Step one in that plan was to, at the very least get everyone's name, and try and make friends with them. First stop, was the lounge. Sonya hoped she'd find someone there to talk to. It was a safe place to start, there were usually people in or around it, as it was a central area in the space station.
Roomie Quest: Rhyme and Rabbits (Closed)
"Yes, the deed is done! I have feeling, that us being roommates will turn out to be a very good thing!" Her overall evaluation of her roommate was definitely a good one, and she laughed at her unfounded doubts from earlier.
She adjusts how she’s sitting on the bed, removing her hat and curling her cape around herself, she was planning on pulling off one of her tricks soon, to see how Sin reacted to magic tricks. If he liked him, she’d spring the assistant question on him. Ah how perfect would that be. She was pretty giddy at the prospect and almost slipped up with her preparations, carefully sliding a card into a special slot on the inside of the cape, as carefully as possible as to not draw attention. She looks a little surprised when Sin explains the honorific and then smiles brightly. “Ah so I am your little sis? Usually I am big sister….Wait! If you are the little brother, and I am to be the little sister, what is to be going on here!! It is…Ah, pair of docs??? ” She gasps in mock surprise before laughing and covering her mouth with one hand.
Oh, wow, only just now he had noticed the cape she was wearing. So cool… The last time he wore a cape was probably in his last music video. And that was… ages ago. Maybe she happened to be carrying spare capes…? Pssh, nah.
Okay, enough staring at capes. He averted his gaze quickly and focused on Sonya instead. Huh… Even without the hat, she was still quite tall… Or, at least, he thought so. Damnit.
"Huh? Me? Lil’ bro? Uhh, I… No!"
He wiped off the slight flush to his cheeks as soon as he felt it. Being called little brother… Goodness. The last person who called him that was his older brother— Oh wait, no, he didn’t count. Then that would be his manager… And that didn’t end well. However, Sonya probably didn’t mean it in that way… He made a mental reminder to make her an exception.
Putting on his usual smile, he continued.
"You mean… A paradox? Hmm… I guess. Hold on, gotta take off my socks."
Wait, he messed up. He didn’t even take his shoes off. Oh well, do it for the vine rhyme. After packing away the wheels and removing shoes and socks, Sin returns to the almost sluggish position he was in earlier. If only they were gossiping, it would have resembled a slumber party perfectly.
"Anyway, since you’re still kinda new… What’s your talent? Y’know, whaddaya do?"
If you want to ask, she'd probably lend you a cape. She's got a spare with her, and while it's not as nice as the one she usually has slung around her shoulders, it's comfy and goes whoosh when one spins around or stands in front of a fan. It might be a bit big on Sin, but capes are supposed to be big, right? Yeah, unfortunately even without her tophat, Sonya is still pretty damned tall. She kind of towers over a lot of people usually. "Ah, was that wrong thing to say? I am sorry. I am used to being the big sister. But for you, I will be little sister! So, big brother Sin then? " She smiles and finishes prepping her trick under her cape, fairly confident she could pull this off and snag Sin as her assistant. She just had to time it right. It was all about the timing, always. Some tricks didn't work if produced all willynilly. She started to laugh a little again, realizing she'd messed up on a word again and nods. "Yes, Paradox! I was almost there! Ah,socks? No no, you don't have to!" She laughs even more, wow, what a dork, he actually took his shoes and socks off. All for the sake of rhyming. She took a breath to compose herself before bringing her hands out of her cloak. "Empty hands da? Now watch!" She waves them around before making a few cards with Rabbits on them appear out of nowhere. Well, it should look like nowhere to Sin at least. "I am a magician!"
Roomie Quest: Rhyme and Rabbits (Closed)
God her roommate was such a cute dork. When he’d introduced himself in front of the group she’d gotten a ‘cool kid’ aura off of him, but that, was apparently a facade for his true dorkiness? That or the guy really just loved rabbits, Sonya wasn’t sure but she didn’t care too much. All she really knew was that he was cute. Maybe he’d make a good assistant, even though he wasn’t a girl. Cute boys should work too right? Totally should work. Maybe she’d ask him about it.
"Glad to know that you are not thinking that! Would not want to weird my roomie out, we will be living together so, best to be on good terms!!" She smiles and gives Tori one last pat before leaving him in Sin’s hands. "Sin, ah? So many people wanting the honorifics. This is different! Thank you Sin. Is very interesting name. Ah, May I ask, what does mei mean? I have not hear that one before!" Man I wonder how Sin would react if he knew Nonna was a Rabbit in another universe.
Dork? Who? Him? Pssh. No… No way… He just adored rabbits… Cute… Fluffy… Rabbits… No! Focus, Sin, focus. He has to actually talk to her… But… No! No buts. He set the toy down but couldn’t pull his eyes away from it…
"Mmhm. Good terms, indeed. There we go, it’s done, the deed."
Sealed and confirmed. He has to get on her good side. No messing this up… And he’s done that many times. Please don’t accidentally hurt her. If he did… Unforgivable! He’d just have to die right there. But not really. His legacy is immortal. Keep on rhyming.
Wait. Did she… ask him about the honorific? She didn’t even say it right. You need the tone… Goddamn, mandarin is so difficult to use on foreigners. He fiddles with the bed sheet and tries to think of the most accurate meaning… How embarrassing. But he couldn’t lie. Instead of saying It doesn’t matter!, or something along those lines, Sin laughed quietly and chuffed.
"… A question I can’t dismiss. Haha… It means… lil’ sis."
Good job, Sin.
"Yes, the deed is done! I have feeling, that us being roommates will turn out to be a very good thing!" Her overall evaluation of her roommate was definitely a good one, and she laughed at her unfounded doubts from earlier.
