Stay Here Forever // Open Reaction
"....W..hy.......?" After Cal's voice switched off from the speakers, that's all that came from Yoshiro as he stared at the names on his ID. His fingers shook, far unlike his usual steady hands, and he dropped the card before curling into his arms. He was crying, seemingly incapable of any other reaction.
Can we go home now? (Starter for Yoshiro)
Kaoru was very happy for his company. It was certainly better than being alone. And Yoshiro…
He was her friend.
"… I think lots of people got very sick." She shuffled uncomfortably. "But I’m not sure… I have to read more and put my thoughts on paper…" She waved at the air around her head. "Right now it’s all just a jumble. I’m surprised I could tell up from down well enough to get into the tree house…"
She rested her head on her knees and turned to look at him. “… What do you mean?” She asked softly.
He nodded at what she explained, recalling what she had said during the trial, and the other things he'd found around the ship lately. It was all very ominous... Glancing over at her, too, when she looked, he sighed before explaining himself. What reason did he have to pretend about things anyway?
"I mean. I don't know. If we were sent up here because of the- the sickness or something, to save us, then.... who's t-to say anyone we care about is still.." He trailed off, but it was clear enough what he was saying. He closed his eyes. "Even if I saw my parents again and they w-were okay- I- they know about all of this, they have to. I can't face them.."

Kaoru pulled her knees up to her chest and shrugged her shoulders. “I don’t really know Yoshiro-kun…” Kaoru said softly, looking over at him. “There’s so much I don’t understand right now… And I’m scared.” She shuddered a little. “I think… I think something very bad happened on Earth. So maybe going back is a bad idea.”
The GM looked up now. “But here we have… Everything that happened to us.” She tightened her grip on her knees. “We’re stuck between a rock and a hard place and… And I just want to go home to be with my Mom and sister…” Kaoru sniffled again, rubbing at her eyes. “I just want to go home…”
He frowned a bit, at least a bit more, and reluctantly shifted himself over to be more next to Kaoru than far away from her. She was the last person, one of them at least, who deserved to be here. "....you do too, huh? Wh-What- what do you think.. happened?"
His brows knit together as he stopped beside her, not moving to touch her or anything so much as just letting himself be there. ".........yeah." He seemed as if he had more to think about that than 'yeah', but he didnt go into it. He looked sad, though, as he did speak. "I don't know what I w-want to do anymore."

At the sound of her name, Kaoru glanced down, still sniffling. “O-oh. Hello Yoshiro-kun…” She smiled gently at him, rubbing her eyes beneath her glasses. The cracked lenses barely bothered her anymore she was so used to them now.
”I was just…” Kaoru trailed off, chewing at her lip. She didn’t quite like admitting she was hiding at a time like this. “Taking a break from my notes… I think I’m starting to understand why we were here but it’s a little taxing right now…”
She moved away from the entrance to allowed Yoshiro room to come up. “… Can you sit with me for a bit, Yoshiro-kun?” She asked softly.
It was lucky for him that with Kaoru, he never had to come up with a reason to stay around and talk to her. She usually offered, or made it clear that she'd prefer company. He nodded a bit in response to all she said, then climbed up with only a bit of hesitance.
The place smelled musty and familiar, but he didnt focus on that. He had become astoundingly good at not remembering things when he didnt want to. This time, he didnt break the now repaired ladder. Nice!
Sitting up on the floor of the treehouse once he was up, he looked over at her carefully.
"Hi. I mean, uh... wh... what's- how are you?" That was probably a good thing to ask after everything that happened. Yoshiro looked far from good, of course, pale and tired and not having slept. He was functioning well enough, though.

Kaoru remembered the last time she had actively spent any time in the tree house in the artificial forest. Yoshi had been alive then. She had tried to comfort him and make things better.
She had failed, obviously, since the very next trial…
Kaoru sighed, leaning her head against the wall of the tree house. It was nice and quiet here, with no screens for Shinsuke to appear on.
She was still in shock after what had happened the night before. Just could not believe it.
But it made the notes she had gathered make sense… She just wish they weren’t real… She’d have to look more into them, of course.
Later though. For now, Kaoru just wanted to pretend she was safe back home with Mika and her Mother and…
She closed her eyes with a soft sniffle.
It had been a long time since Yoshiro had been here. Even stepping foot in the garden biome brought forth tons of bad memories as well as good ones that he wanted nothing to do with anymore. Everything about the grass under his feet and the trees he used to walk through with people who weren't around anymore made him nauseous, and what was worse was the still kicked up soil he remembered digging through in the middle of that horrible night.
But he had to be here. He needed to explore every last inch of this ship if he ever wanted to actually do something about their situation, and now of all times was driving him to do so. He was emotional, angry, all sorts of things, and he didnt like sitting alone in his room anymore now that he'd trashed it.
The treehouse wasn't where he planned on going at all. The last time he'd been there, Yoshi had kicked him out (literally) and then died that same night. When he passed it, though, he couldnt help but notice Kaoru's presence. Stopping just under the entrance hole to look up at who was inside, his brows furrowed a bit.
".....Hayashi-san?"

I Stood There Like A Business Man // Reaction
The murder, the news, the door scare... all of it was a lot to stomach, really. Anyone would be pretty shocked.
It took a bit for him to come onto the scene. Looking disoriented as he stood in the doorway of the viewing platform, Yoshiro took only a second to spot the identity of the body and come to a full halt.
"....?"
As if changing his mind, he turned and left the room immediately.

"Don’t think I forgot about the motive, kids. The filthy traitor among you, the scum who was working with good ol’ me all along, that would be…"

After the strange events of last night, you are relieved to discover the next morning that the lights in your room have returned to normal, and that the door will once again open. The strange hissing noise has stopped. You feel a sense of relief.
That sense of relief is quickly replaced with a sense of eerie dread, as you walk out of your room and are confronted with an eerie silence. Attempting to contact CAL-19014 does nothing. Starting to panic, you begin to make your way around the station in search of someone else.

It’s late, perhaps 10 or 11 PM. You’re in your room, ready to sleep, when something… odd happens. There is a loud click from the door, and the panel where you would normally scan your ID card to get out glows a bright red. No matter what you try, the door will not open.
At the same time, the lights in your room glow a dull green. If you press your ear against the door, you can hear a faint hissing noise coming from outside. What’s going on?

Okay, yeah, this is going well, right? Yoshiro’s nodding, so he’s understanding what he’s telling him. Good. All according to plan. The plan is to comfort his friend, and he is doing a good job. Good on you, Shinsuke. As Yoshiro leans into him, he smiles shakily, squeezing as tight as he can (which, in all fairness, isn’t that much; he’s a programmer, not a lumberjack or some shit) before reaching a hand up to pet stiffly at his hair.
At the decidedly odd noise Yoshiro makes, Shinsuke almost laughs. He stifles it, though so it just comes out as a sort of weird hiccup. “H-ha… Y-Yoshiro-kun, you almost sound as b-bad as I, snuffle, do…” The sentence isn’t all that funny, considering both of them sound like shit that’s been on the heel of a hobo’s boot for the past week. His quivery smile deflates for a moment as the barista looks up to him… before falling completely at his words.
Oh fuck. Oh Christ oh Allah oh Kami-sama oh shit. What the fuck do you even say to that? “Uh.” GOOD JOB SHINSUKE!!!!!!!! “I…” Fuck. He’s not sure if it’s his allergies or the current conversation or whatever the fuck else is going on with his body, but his eye is beginning to water. Definitely water. There is no salt contained in these whatsoever. He’s not fucking crying. “I… I don’t know, Yoshiro-kun… I honestly d-don’t… I wish I did, I…”
He sniffles, and motherfucking shit he is not crying goddamnit. “It-it’s not your fault, though, I know that, o-okay?”
He remains weirdly calm as Shinsuke speaks and starts to not cry. Sitting against him still, shoulders weak and body huddled in on itself, Yoshiro continued to stare up at the shorter boy. His eyes were dry, comparatively, and with the edge of his sleeve he lifted his hand up to dab at Shinsuke's stupid watery face.
"...But..." Only as he says that word does his face fall into a sadder look again, but it doesn't last long. "...No. No. It has to be true. They're... alive. Shinsuke-kun. That's what the voice says- it's th-the only thing that makes sense!" He holds his hands out in front of him as if trying to grasp at an imaginary idea, or a person. Theres nothing there.
"Of course no one is really being.. k-killed. That's.... terrible. Who would do something like that." You did something like that. "I-If it's true, and they're really.. saved somewhere, in whatever form, then that means we can get them back. I-It means that- that we can.. do.. something. Right? They can't be gone for good. I wouldn't.. let that happen."
He sounds distant with his words, still, like to some degree he knows what he's saying is wrong and nonsensical. He doesn't stop, though, and eventually turns his face away from Shinsuke again to sigh.
"....But." He repeats. "If.. that's not true then... it is my fault, Sh-Shinsuke-kun. Maybe not all of it, but.. a lot of it. I.. I've really.. I'm a disappointment, really. I.. don't really know if I want to see my family again if we ever get out of here. You know?"

Sense motive (starter for Yoshiro)
“… I don’t know if it will be that easy.” Kaoru folded her arms over her chest.
As odd as Fumiko could be, and as grating as she could be, that wasn’t enough for Kaoru to think she was the traitor. After all, she knew what some of the others thought of Shinobu.
“Niceness alone isn’t a factor…” She reasoned, sighing softly. “… Yuu-kun was very nice to me after all…” Kaoru said without thinking who she was speaking to.
"Yeah, I guess th-that's unfair of m-" He cut off almost immediately at that last bit, and despite already not looking at her, seemed to distance even further. Oh. Right.
There was a long moment where Yoshiro tried to convince himself he could respond normally, without getting upset, that only really succeeded in an awkward silence before his voice came out sounding, well, yeah. Upset.
"H-He was nice to everybody..." That's all he said in response, actually, not really noting whether or not it was a good contribution to what they were talking about. He then resumed silence and dropped his eyes to the floor, not really trying to think of anything else to say.

He couldn’t be the traitor if he looked that sad and tired… Right?
Kaoru nodded slowly. “I don’t want to believe either…” She looked at the dark screen again. “I want to believe that Caligula is trying to scare us more and make us fight…”
Slowly she allowed her arms to drop to her side. “But I’ve said that every… Every motive.” She looked up at him, and she too was starting to look a little tried and very very sad. “And every time I’ve been wrong…”
She adjusted her glasses. “… I think… We should try to find out who would betray us. Investigate, if we can…” She bit her lip. “Do you… Have any ideas?” Time for Kaoru to read Yoshiro’s reactions…
Assuming she could. A huge part of her still believed this had to be a lie.
As Kaoru mentioned the motive, he felt a sinking pit in his chest tht he was used to by now. He didnt say anything he thought, of course, instead twitching his mouth in what could be considered a smile in only the loosest definitions. He tried.
"Uh, y-yeah. Yeah... at this point it's hard... not to believe what he says. Um- no. I dont think I do, though." Ideas. He thought about it, going through what remained of his friends here in his head. Thinking of each one individually, and whether or not they could be partially responsible for this... it made him want to puke.
"I... I.." He frowned and glanced anywhere but Kaoru. "...I don't know who it could be. Fujioka, maybe. Sh-She- She's never been-" As much as he disliked Fumiko, throwing her under the bus for no reason but that still felt wrong. "....Nice." He finished anyway, sounding defeated.

“Yoshiro-kun…” She said slowly once she noticed it was him.
Was he the traitor…?
Still clutching her necklace, she stepped to her left away from the wall. “I-it’s okay.” She said weakly, keeping her head down. “Um.. Be safe okay?” She looked up slowly. A frown still played across her face… And she still wasn’t sure she could trust him.
But maybe it was time to stop denying the situation she was in. Maybe it was time to start investigating without the instigation from Caligula.
Maybe it was time to poke at her fellows and try to discern who among them was the traitor.
Could she do it though? She was scared…
“… Do you believe it…?” She asked softly.
He stopped trying to move around her only after she mentioned being safe. The sentiment, however nervous it may have been, was enough to cause him to hesitate and begin rapidly tugging at his own sleeves, nervous. He hadn't talked to many people lately, but having someone wish him well was nice.
"...Uh. You too, y-yeah. You shouldn't be walking around like this... if you can help it." He rocked back on his heels before finally looking her in the eye. His eyes were red and the skin under them worn from rubbing, as they often were lately. He looked tired.
"..Yes." He answered, honestly for once. He frowned and dropped his eyes again as he fumbled for the thermos on his belt. "I have to, don't I? D-Denying it just because... I don't want it to be true.. is stupid. I don't want to do that anymore."
His voice trailed off quietly as he slowly undid the thermos from his hip and took a drink, awkward but no longer trying to leave.

"I don’t believe you…" Kaoru whispered to a dark Caligula screen. She was gripping at her necklace, nearly shaking.
There was no way one of them had been in contact with that vile A.I. Kaoru refused to even entertain that idea. She didn’t want to think of one of her friends being a traitor…!
But she also thought that Yoshiro and Yuu would never commit, or try to commit, murder. She never thought Yoshi would try to get them all killed with a confusing suicide…
At the very least it wasn’t Shinobu. As long as Kaoru had her, everything was going to be okay…
She turned sharply as she heard the sound of footsteps. Who was that?
Awkward. As Kaoru began to fearfully ruminate in her own thoughts, the very unlikely murderer she was thinking of came onto the scene.
He'd been just a short way away, after all, staring at Caligula's terrible face as he returned to the sickening, familiar feeling of dread to what was to come. A traitor? Another one of his classmates, someone he trusted, betraying them all again? How many more times did this have to happen?
Within seconds he knew that it was true. He was walking proof that no one here was truly trustworthy. Beginning to walk as he tried to make sense of the nausea that had replaced any kind of tangible feeling within him, he started as Kaoru turned to him.
"Sh-Sh-Shoot- augh-" He backed way up and bonked into the wall, almost comically, as he spotted Kaoru. "...Hayashi-san- oh god. Sorry, I didn't mean to- uh- Sorry."
He was already stepping back and forth in front of her, as if trying to move around her and go back to his room. Surely Kaoru couldn't be.... no. No, of course not.

A familiar and hated voice fills the air once more.
"Hello, smelly, pungent, disgusting IMBECILES! How is trusting each other and having "friendships" turning out for you? Hopefully not well, because it’s everyone favourite time, motivation time, from your favourite motivational speaker, Caligula!"
"Are you fuckers aware that one of you has been in contact with /yours truly/ since day one? That’s right, one of you little pieces of shit is a sneaky sneaky traaaaaaaaitoooooooor! If you want to find out which one of your fuckers is, as we speak, in fucking CAHOOTS with me, all you gotta do is off someone. And chop chop, seriously, where’s the fun in just watching you all chat and form emotional bonds n’ shit?"
As the image cuts out, you see a flash of blue, and swear you can hear someone familiar say “Don’t wor-“ through the speakers before silence returns.
