On March 13, 2020, my state went into lockdown for the first time as COVID-19 was acknowledged globally as a pandemic.

I moved to Japan that November.

On September 13, 2021, my prefecture exits the most recent "essential business only" lockdown, with no end in sight and measures constantly tightening. So uh, on that note, I guess all I can say is Komaru's got a point. Can you believe it!? A year and a half!

Btw, this is literally from the opening anime cutscene of Ultra Despair Girls so I think it's safe to say there are no spoilers here. Just a hell of a mood.

Jeeze, after way too much procrastination, I'm finally getting around to crossposting my stuff from other social media.

My two hyperfixations right now are vinyl BJD-style dolls and Danganronpa, so I'll be posting photostories here as they happen.

Alright y’all, buckle up, because we’re cracking this case wide open and there isn’t remotely enough buzz on the English-speaking internet about this incredibly baller album.

So. April 21, Megumi Ogata-san released a new rock album (it slaps, btw) featuring, among other things, the intro song to her new otome game and a confirmed Unofficial Evangelion Character Song from the perspective of Shinji. Cool, cool, we have some fandom going down already.

There’s another song on the album, called “Breaking Dawn”. Here’s a youtube link, I’ll wait:

So first thing off the bat, my ‘zetsubou’ wake word triggers (nothing, I repeat nothing, gets my instant attention during a Japanese speech more than the words ‘zetsubou’ and ‘kibou’ LMAO) and I realize the background vocals are very, VERY Dangan in style. So after a few listens, I get to work translating the lyrics from the liner notes into English:

So, I’m not gonna claim that this translation is definitive or anything since my nihongo is definitely not jouzu (no matter how many compliments I get on my ‘sumimasen’ game), but I do think I was able to get the meaning across pretty well all things considered.

Now, for the additional circumstantial evidence!

-If you listen to Breaking Dawn, and also listen to Progressive (the duet between Makoto and Komaru from UDG), Ogata-san is clearly using the same voice for both songs.

-The liner notes feature a photo of Ogata-san from behind, wearing what definitely appears to be a blazer-over-hoodie combo (though admittedly the photo is all artsy and dark so it’s difficult to see):.

-Finally, when I tweeted my theory she legit retweeted me (justsaying)

So, I believe it’s safe to say that, while definitely unofficial, “Breaking Dawn” is a Secret Character Song for Makoto Naegi.
