After having his more-or-less fair share of sweets, Ikura returned to his room once more to take a nap. Desserts are for when youâre stressed, naps are for whenever! Naps are always good. Ehh, maybe not always...
After unlocking the door with his code, out of habit, he took off his geta, knocking his height down an inch. Heck, he wasnât even average height with them on. While he set his sandals to the side, he hummed a little tune to himself. Probably something out of a childrenâs shounen anime. He even kind of danced to it, swaying from side-to-side.
... Then he stopped. Oops! His roommate was in, after all. Ikura made a small gasp, then waved at Squids before shuffling over to his own bed.
âOh! Hello, friend! I didnât know that you were in here. Am I, um, disturbing you?â
He was about to take a seat before he awkwardly stopped halfway in silence, standing up straight again. Waving his hands in front of him, his cheeks flush pink in embarrassment.
âI-I can leave if you w-want! I just thought that itâd be nice we could talk properly, you know? Being roomies and all, weâre going to see quite a lot of each other! Unless... um, Leroy-san decides to change it, I guess. I sure hope he doesnât! You seem like a very nice person, I also really like your hat-- Ah!â
The boy gasped again, clapping his hands together. He made a small bow, shining a grin,
âI never formally introduced myself, oopsie! Ikura Sunadori! Fisher. Youâre Squids-san, right? Thatâs a cute name, eheh. Where are you from, by the way? Are squids your favourite animal? Whatâs your thoughts on giant squid? I think theyâd very huggable! Or, well, nice to hug. Their skin is delicate and I would never hurt a marine friend of mine!â

It seems like she wasnât the only one trying to get out of the room in a hurry. She felt a gust of wind breeze past her when she exited the âclassroomâ and looked over to find Ikura booking it into his room. She could understand why he did thatâ alas she wanted to do the same. Her mind was distracted, her remaining strength was gone from the trial and she couldnât dash towards her room if she wanted to. Xue kept a reasonable pace, walking towards her room and letting her body hit the bed, drifting off into a deep slumber.Â
When she awoke, her head bumped into a box. A neatly wrapped box, with a ribbon and glitter. Her eyes sparkled, despite her fatigue from the day before and she moved over to rip open the box. Opening the lid, her energy dimmed once she found what was inside. She took a maraca out of the box and shook it, dully sighing before putting it back in. She took the box and placed it somewhere in the room, maybe van Halen would like to use it sometime.Â
She wandered around the main room, minding her own business, as there werenât that many people awake at the time. It wasnât until the announcement from Leroy played that she practically jumped into the air and rushed over to the new area. She visited the winter prep room first, after peeking into the autumn and summer one. She hummed, tapping her finger on her chin as she bend over and stood on the tip of her toes to survey some items. â<Aha! This is it..>â Xue snatched a beanie, that had cat ears on the top. She frowned upon seeing the ears and rummaged around a bit more until she found one with bear ears. âYes! Good..â She shoved these into her jacket pockets, checking out the changing room before entering the snack bar.
Upon entering the room, she tilting her head at the familiar face. Ikura.. hmm.. what was his last name? She snapped out of her odd trance and noticed he was speaking to her. She replied with a wide grin.
â<Hello, hello!>â She waved at him, walking over to the table he was settled at. âOhoho, I can tell myself.. it looks very good, yes? Very, very tasty!â Xue looked over at the treats. âYes, yes, I would love to! You are very cute, Mister Sunadori! Please, give me a moment!â She walked over to the counter, her eyes going to the menu and microphone at the counter.Â
âAhem,â She spoke clearly, closing her eyes. âMay I have hm.. two custard dumplings, five moon cakes, and a green tea tiramisu? <Thank you very much, kind machine!>â Once she got her food, she brought it back over to the table and sat next to Ikura motioned for her to sit. âSo, Mister Sunadori! How are we going to consume all of this?â
Oh! She accepted his request! For some reason, this came off as a surprise to him, as if there were a million good reasons to decline
âThey are! These are some of my favourites. I chose whatever was easiest for them to make though. It was super quick!â
If he had ordered every single one of them... Only a fraction would be able to fit on the table. He had enough trouble bringing 15 servings to the table. Geez. And yet another surprise! Heâs been called cute many times but they were all by people he was close to or even sarcastically. Getting such a compliment from someone new deserved a different reaction. Ikura held his hands to his mouth, smiling.
âC-Cute? Me? Th-Thank you, miss...! You are, um, v-very pretty! Eheh... I-Iâll wait!â
As Xue walked off to order, he kicked his feet, barely scraping the floor with his clunky footwear. Cute was definitely not a word heâd use to describe himself... but if numerous people have said so, it must be true! (Blake once said that he looked cute when he smeared mud on his face... Well.)
He waved at the astronomerâs return, shifting the plates over to make room.
âHuh? With... our mouths? I donât think I understand the question... Xue-san, right? Can I call you that? And you donât have to call me that. I donât really look like a mister, do I?â
Was that... her first name? He wasnât so sure. Hopefully she wonât tie him up and cut his head off in the middle of their meal or anything. Awkward. He sat up in his seat, rearranging the plates again.
âFor real though! Letâs share! I donât think Iâve ever tried any of what you got here. They look really good! Weâll just split these in half. Does that sound like a good idea?â
oh whale [open]
As the wine pooled around the subjectâs knees on the screen, he put his hands over his eyes and kept them there until the very end. His chest felt tight, his breathing hitched. What was he getting so anxious about? Itâs not as if he took his place-- Oh. Just imagining that had him on his knees, shaking, and the scream only made it worse.
He bolted out of there as soon as it was over.
A mad dash to his room later, Ikura flopped onto his bed and lied still. Was he... dead!? No, but he was dead tired which is pretty close. While half-listening to the announcement, the boy rolled over, almost squishing something in the process. Oops. He sat up and held it out above him. Oh, what a cute package!, he thought. He peeked into the bag and a smile took place on his face. A kazoo! Heâll have to learn how to play it later.
First, the new area was waiting to be explored! And just like that, he was back to his usual self or he at least seemed to be. He chose a room at random and stuck with it, peeking his head in first.
âUwah...!â
A snack room! Something children would dream of! Ikura excitedly made his way through, picking up random treats, half of them heâs never heard of before. He sets all his snacks down at a table and looks embarrassingly proud of himself. Ikuraâs eyes practically sparkle (despite being closed... uhh...) at the sight of the microphone at the counter. Heâs normally not allowed to order by himself but this was his chance!
âH-Hello! Could I please have some green tea? No, hibiscus-- No, both! And one serving of green tea mizu yĹkan and two warabimochi-- Ah! <Two purin and yukimi daifuku - each! And two yuzu fruit jellies and four imagawayaki!>Â Thank you!â
His words came out in Japanese as he continued. Heâs not as chill as others make him out to be. He was fascinated by the orders coming out so quickly. Talk about service! Ikura giggled to himself as he took each plate to his table.
Someone else had entered the room - how rude of him to not greet them! He waved at his company, then patted the chair next to him.
âHello there! I, um, got ahead of myself and ordered too much, I think. Eheh, would you like to join me? It would be a shame if these sweets went to waste... Oh, I didnât mean to sound guilt-trippy! I-Itâs okay if you donât! I understand.â

Despite what people on the internet might think, there is definitely such a thing as watching too much Space Jam. And Jaws, The Wizard Of Oz, and the rest. Before, perhaps, they probably wouldâve agreed that there was no such thing as seeing your favorite movie (or, in particular, one of their own), but now⌠As the end credits roll once again for Dead Poetsâ Society, Jericho gives a big, long sigh, stretching out in the seat. During the time theyâd spent here in the last week, theyâd become accustomed to the darkness, for the most part. Sometimes, when the screen fades to black during a scene, or at the end of the movie, they feel themselves tense up, their breath catching in their throat. But then the next scene comes, or the beginning of the next movie, and theyâre okay again. They⌠admittedly arenât sure why theyâre torturing themselves like this, but⌠it isnât like thereâs much else to do.Â
A thought hits them, and they rise. It might wound them grievously, but they think they can live without seeing Jaws for the fiftieth time. Their destination is the kitchen, and almost as soon as they leave the movie theater, that thought creeps back into their mind. Changes, Leroy had said. It was⌠weird, really. They didnât think much was going on with them. Though⌠they had had to roll their pants legs up into a decidedly unfashionable cuff. That⌠isnât normal. Theyâd heard of pants shrinking in the wash, but growing? Unless⌠They shake their head. Nah. Thatâs like something out of a movie, and while theyâve said that before, about this entire situation, this just seems⌠even more fantastic. Like sure, okay, they guessed that they HAD all been put into this facility for research, but this?
As much as it nags at them, their mind switches focus once they get to the kitchen. They scan their barcode, and what pops out brings a smile to their face, at least: two small to medium sized pan-seared lemon-pepper tilapia fillets coupled with parmesan pasta, a slice of lemon meringue pie, and⌠two bottles of water. Theyâre not sure what they were expecting drink-wise, honestly, but everything else looks pretty darn good!Â
They set down to eat, but as they do, something strikes them. They side eye one of the water bottles, even as they start eating. Itâs only when someone comes in, as theyâre in the middle of a bite of fish, that they take action. Once they swallow the bite, they speak up genially.
âHey, could you come look at this for me? Something looks⌠off.â
The entire week was spent with... he wasnât sure, really. Everything looked the same. He would start spacing out and then find himself wandering around, getting lost easily, especially in the dark. It wasnât like this with the outdoors, there were plenty of distinguishable features. Here, it was halls, spacious rooms, and way too many corners. It was suffocating. Where was all the sunshine?
He isnât sure what time it is, heâs never really paid attention to time ever, but he knows that itâs time for food. Is it lunch or dinner? Again, not sure. Ikura pops his head into the kitchen, checking for any company. Feeling like he would disturb them, he treads carefully, not making a single sound...
Whoops, too soon, they already caught him! He feels silly, trying to hide like that.
âAh! Y-Yes?â
Food can wait. Somebody needed his help! He gulps nervously before skipping over to the table. For a second, a look of horror flashes across his face when he notices what theyâre eating. No, itâs none of his business! Anyone can eat what they want. Even if itâs one of his friends. It was nice knowing them...
âHmm! Really? What do you mean by that?â
It must be a pretty big deal if it was enough for them to bother someone else about it. Er, not that theyâre bothering him! Heâs just a bit hungry. He squints at their food, humming quietly. A beat later, he gasps dramatically, hands darting up to cover his mouth.
âU-Uwah!! Youâre van Halen-san! S-Sorry, I just noticed! I-Iâll do my best to h-help...!â

mayumisawada:
She wasnât even sure why she even knocked at the door of the game room. It was a public place; she didnât need to do it. If she had to guess, it may have been out of kindness, as she was currently not in the best of spirits and if anyone was in the room, they should be warned of this. Whatever changes had been inflicted on her were currently cleaning her clock.
She entered the room to see a small boy with a box on his head and an embarrassed grin on his face. First a kid with an octopus on his head, now a kid with a box on his headâŚwhat was next, a kid with a bag over his face?Â
He was polite enough though, bowing before trying to tidy up the colossal mess he had been standing in. She cocked her head to the side, incredibly curious about this boyâs state ofâŚeverything, really.
âYes, it sure was. You seem pretty okay with it, considering what it actually said. But oh well, we canât all be as chill as you, you know? Oh well-what kinda game you gunning to play? Iâm not so good at Scrabble cuzâ rude words donât ever countâŚbut Iâm aight atâŚ.I dunno, Jumanji?â
She strode to a nearby chair and sat down, waiting for the stranger-she hadnât even asked his name-to respond.
Oh! The intruder-- Er, friend looked... well, friendly! From what was visible of her face at least. The little smile on the mask was cute, he noted. Hopefully, she had an equally bright expression underneath. Smiles for everyone! Her hair was really cool, he thought, so colourful and well-kept! His own hair though... No, he didnât want to think about it.
With a small shake of his head, Ikura shook the bad vibes off, then plopped the game pieces from the box on his head on the table. He didnât know what game it was supposed to be. Just an assortment of general card games, probably. The only game heâs decent at is Old Maid. Oh, and Go Fish, of course.
âMe? Chill?â
He let out a childish laugh, smiling sheepishly as he waved a hand.
âAhaha, n-no, I wouldnât say Iâm chill. My friends are always telling me to stop worrying. Thatâs very nice of you to say though! Er... Iâm Ikura. Ikura Sunadori! Whatâs your name?â
Once he finished neatening the game stuff, he hopped off to get, well, more game stuff. While he was searching for something hopefully familiar to the both of them, he nodded along to the otherâs words. Itâd be rude if he looked like he was ignoring her because he seriously wasnât! He would never. He stood on his toes for a better look... There has to be something.
âI donât really mind anything, eheh. Card games are alright, I think, but Iâd prefer a board game! Iâve never played Jumanji... We can play Scrabble! I didnât know the, um, rude words didnât count. I usually play however I want. N-Not that I p-place rude words or anything...! Just go with the flow, you know? Scrabbleâs okay, right?â

This definitely wasnât going well for any of them at all. The announcer - Leroy, was it? - told them that they were going to experience some... alterations. That was... very vague. And, well, there was also the other thing. The thing about killing each other. He didnât want to believe him but there was no reason not to, right? The mysterious changes were definitely happening whether heâd like it or not. Was that angry yelling he could hear? Eep, better not go anywhere near them!
Ikura returned to his room earlier, deciding on a nap when he saw his roommate wasnât in. He spent no more than five minutes in there before bolting out all the way down the hall and slamming the door behind him. It wasnât the subtlest escape, as he was panicky wailing along the whole way, but he was safe! For now. That was a super impulsive move, now that he thought about it. He even felt guilty for possibly disturbing anyone, thatâd be terrible.
That wasnât the end of all the noise-making though. After catching his breath, the boy made a beeline for the large shelf and inspected the wide range of board games on display, shaking a few of the boxes or passing them completely. Despite the number of games, there werenât very many he could see, being as short as he was.
Having to drag a chair to stand on, Ikura finally obtained the exact board game he wanted. Victory! Just as he was about to get down, there was a knock at the door. So, obviously, he emptied the contents of the box on the floor and put it on his head.
âUwah! H-Hello, friend! Um. Sorry about this! About... everything.â
He hopped off the seat before bowing politely, then rearranged the chairs to properly fit around the table. Oh, what a mess.
âThat... That was some announcement, huh? Ah... Would you l-like to play a game with me? To take your mind off things! I guess...! Itâs okay if you donât want to. Iâll just... play by myself, thatâs fine too. Or, uhh, we can... just... sit here! Eheh...â

Those eyes sure were special alright. They zoomed in slightly, whirring softly as they adjusted focus to perfection, before a series of audible clicks indicated a few photographs being taken. Wouldnât do to forget a face in this situation, plus, it was a nice shot. The rural-looking kid shot against this white, clinical background, the nervous smile on his face, the oddly bright and overly clean lighting - it was nice. Not brilliant, not incredible, but nice.
Holding out a hand clad in a studded leather glove, he grinned, showing a great deal of very sharp teeth. âNice to meetcha, kiddo. Fishing, huh? Canât say I donât think itâs a total fuckinâ waste of time, but you seem like a good kid.â
Ikura raises a good point - why kidnap people like them? And why tell them theyâre going to be held the rest of their natural lives? âEven if I was, kid, I could fuckinâ take it. Iâve been in fights before, no need to sweat. But you got a point about kidnapping. If these people wanted money, there are way richer people they could kidnap. Hate ta say it, but I ainât sure my family could put up much of a ransom. We ainât exactly well off. If it were teens they wanted, they wouldnât take people like us either, though. Weâre high-profile. If some sick fuck just wants a bunch of kids to murder or play with or whatever, theyâd get them from some third-world slums or off the streets, so they wouldnât be missed. Us gone missing, Iâm thinking the mediaâs gonna kick up one hell of a shitstorm.â
He put a gloved hand to his chin in thought, the light from his eyes going from a brilliant white to a dull green. âAnd it ainât a terrorist thing, either. Figure if it were theyâd take kids from the same fuckinâ country at least. So, Why the fuck take us? And why the fuck are they trying to tell us we agreed to this shit? I sure as fuck didnât. Something is fuckinâ fishy here, kid. You gonna help me find it?â
A quiet ooh escaped his lips as he clasped his hands unconsciously. He said he was a photographer... so, surely, he was taking photos of him. He didnât mind it or anything, having many candid photos of him from participated tournaments, but if he did that with anyone else... and got caught taking pictures... he might not end up in a good position.
While he was busy worrying over Ayumuâs future safety, he noticed movement, a hand extended towards him. Oh, right. Hand-shaking. Yes. Ikura shyly accepted it, giving him a good shake. Lots of energy now! His own handâs pretty rough and callused from years of fishing, uncharacteristic from someone like him. On the subject of little traits... those teeth were like a sharkâs. How cute!
âYes! Nice to meet you, Asato-san! Photography is... really cool! Ah, thank you? Fishing is... fun! It takes my mind off things.â
Thereâs a hint of bitterness behind the last few words but his expression remains the same. They nod, not doubting Ayumuâs words. He looks like a very capable man! Independent. Individualistic. Does whatever he wants. That kind of person... Maybe.
âMoney? Ah, my wallet!â
That was more directed at himself but let slip. Oops. He patted his vest pockets, wondering what else he had with him. The one usually holding his wallet in was empty. Dang, it had lots of neat pictures in it too... Unfortunately, there was more money in it than purikura shots. An unfair ratio.
âWah... I have lots of money usually... Too much if you ask me. Maybe they already took it and it still wasnât enough. Somebody has to be looking for us! Thereâs a lot of people here... Well-known and from all around the world too...! Mm... Murder is very very bad, it canât happen here...â
He clapped his hands excitedly at the pun. Why was he so happy about that?
âFishy? Ah, I mean! Yes, Iâll help! Definitely! Whatâs your plan, Asato-san?â

Wandering through the building without much aim was frightening to say the least. They really didnât have much, and in all honesty, it was a little boring. Caadia, however, would not be complaining about that anytime soon. If anything, it felt a little wrong to complain about the entertainment being dull when the majority of her life has been spent in her own bedroom.
Deep in thought, Caadia never even noticed someone else walking by and quickly approaching her until they collided, letting out a loud shriek as she struggled to not fall over. Though tempted to run away, she feltâŚslightly at ease when she heard her âassailantâ apologize in Japanese. She wasnât fluent, everything she knew was from whatever Eve taught her, but she did know an apology when she heard one.
âUâŚum⌠ItâsâŚalrightâŚ?â
Her voice was barely above a whisper, and the fact that she was hiding her mouth with her scarf probably wasnât helping the matter at hand. Still, she stood there, staring at his feet as she responded to his inquiries.
âYâŚyouâre not the only one thâŚthatâs confused⌠I donât râŚI donât remember anyt-thing about thisâŚand thereâs no wâŚway my parents would sign me up for s-something like this⌠B-but please donât worryâŚ! Iâm not hurtâŚum⌠Youâre not hurt eitherâŚright? SâŚsorr-ryâŚjust making sureâŚâ
When he finally registered how goddamn tall the person in front of him was, he flinched even after taking the cautious step back. She wasnât going to hurt him now because he asked, right? Right!? No, thatâd be silly. Reasonable maybe but still silly. She sounded alright with it, she said it, but you can never be too sure. He could hardly hear it, he did catch it though, albeit muffled.
Ikura followed, looking down at his own feet. Did he get seaweed caught on his ankle again? To double check, he turned around, wondering if there was a roll of toilet paper stuck to his sandal or something. Nope. Nothing. He raised his brows, his worried expression replaced by a friendly smile.
âUm, yes! I mean...! I see! Itâs really odd, isnât it? Why me...?â
He shook his head, before starting to gently sway side to side. A small dance to lift the mood up! Even if it didnât work on her, it made him feel better. Not the best time for a dance but a little movement never hurt anybody. Once he settled down, Ikura rubbed at his wrist, laughing sheepishly.
âEheh... Nope! Fortunately not. The mark... um, no! The tattoo though. I wonder if that hurt... I donât think Iâm even allowed to have one. I hope itâs not against the law or anything... Ah, this! All of this shouldnât be legal to start with, right? But... Announcer-san said that we agreed to this. Do you think... that Announcer-san could be lying?â
washed up [ayumu]
eternalsnapshot:
As soon as someone bumped into him, Ayumu turned with fists raised, already preparing to swing a punch, yelling at the top of his lungs. âWHAT THE FUCK IS WRO-â And then he saw who, exactly, had bumped into him. Just some kid, and a small kid at that. Withdrawing his hands from their raised position in front of him, he scratched the back of his head and looked down sheepishly.
â<Itâs okay. Donât sweat it, kid.>â The kid was apologizing in Japanese, might as well respond in kind, although when the stranger switched to English, Ayumu followed suit. Growing up in a bilingual household, heâd had enough experience with conversations that switched at random between the two languages to be able to switch fluidly mid-sentence.
âI sure as fuck didnât agree to this shit. Makes sense youâd be confused. This right here, kid, this is a fuckinâ kidnapping. Apart from having been motherfuckinâ sequestered, Iâm fine, kid, no need to worry. Anyway, who the fuck are you? My nameâs Ayumu Asato. Photographer.â Â
That kind of reaction didnât actually surprise him as if he was expecting that as his initial reaction. The Japanese caught him off-guard more than anything. Might as well have built up his English skills from there. Thatâs one good thing about this situation. Not good enough to make up for all of it but it counted at least a little bit!
This person... was hard to miss, he wondered how he bumped into him. His hair was so... flowy and nice. Would it be soft? He wondered if it ever got caught in anything. Then he looked higher, raising his brows at those special eyes. Thinking that his staring was obvious, Ikura shook his head and bowed yet again.
âK-Kidnapping? Wah, frightening! No one could agree to that... but, um, thereâs no reason to kidnap someone like me...!â
Unless... the person behind this was going to steal all the fish while he wasnât aware of it. Thatâs not very nice. He scratched his neck, fidgeting under Ayumuâs gaze. Scary... When it came to his introduction, he suddenly perked up, shining a bright smile his way.
âIâm Ikura! Eh, I mean...! Ikura Sunadori, fisher. I still feel funny saying that, eheh, people are always expecting someone... bigger? Ah, anyway! Thatâs good that youâre not hurt, that wouldnât be good in a situation like this. Or ever!â

Darkness was the last thing he wanted to wake up to. There was a reason the blinds were always slightly drawn in the morning. To avoid a panic attack, of course. His breath hitched up in his throat and he could feel his body freeze in fear. All he could hear was the loud drumming beat of his heart. He immediately went to escape, only to fall off the bed with a dull thump. Ikura instinctively hugged his knees to his chest. Trying to breath steadily just made it worse.
Finally, what felt like ages of shaky breathing, the lights flood the room. Before he could even acknowledge the other person in the room, Ikura bolted right out the door. He almost missed the announcement, his mind was all over the place. Where were his friends? Actually, where was he anyway? No, were they alright? Who were the other people? Who was talking on the intercom? Why did he sign up for this, whatever it was?
He leaned against the wall, holding onto himself for a moment. Deep breaths... With his head uncharacteristically down, the fisher skittered around, following the arrows, then bumping head-first into someoneâs back. He let out a yelp and stumbled backwards before bowing exactly three times. At first, he apologized repeatedly in Japanese,
â<S... S-Sorry, Iâm sorry s-so sorry...!>â
Ikura looked up and gulped nervously, braving a smile. In English this time, he spoke again, miles more calmer now,
âH... Hello! I, um, Iâm very confused. I donât remember agreeing to anything like this... Do you? Sorry, I just... It was dark and... Uuu, y-youâre not hurt, right?â
