actually i disassociated my way through doubt academy 6
ā what a ride this has been
ok well first of all michi is only going to be able to sincerely apologize and never look at her again if there's no other input because what the fuck how do u move on from this. ai do u want money? a dress? a fruit basket? name it and u have it but mailed to u bc michi can't ever look at u againup until her murder she had a slightly negative leaning opinion on her that had flares of frustration, but it was the sort of emotion that would disappear once they were out of the sim. bc she was actively repressing large bits of her trauma her bouts of frustration were more bombastic than they would've been but it still would've faded once the stressor was away.i'd have to go back in archives but i do think michi suspected ai in that frame at least for some time which... it took the Punch to snap her out of it. she felt so terribly for her getting hurt by someone she worked with that physically repressing adachi with hollys help was an automatic response to help her.god she feels bad.there wasn't too much thankfully else? if her memory was right she'd hold it against ai for yelling at her when she was traumatized but she's forgotten the finer details of that trial out of a desire to repress it.she did hold the couple comment against her though ESPECIALLY when yuka died afterward. unfortunately that was just bad timing on ais part and she'd probably rationalize the context if someone she liked hadn't died.aside from that michi kinda thinks she's opportunistic and rough around the edges (ie the hit on ryouji -- "why would you shoot at someone reins already pinned they're dead anyway" [YES i've done that but that's BESIDES the point] -- she also thinks this is in poor taste bc she feels miko was actually justified since ryouji killed the best friend she'd made on the other side and ai had no dog in the fight)side note that the karaoke interaction was the worst moment of michis fucking life bc she was just "gwahaha i'm ebull-- fuck ur gonna be dead in a few hours"for real she feels rotten that ais name was in the rng and got drawn but she has a weird "ends justify the means" development since it's a vr so she's sad it was painful but was like "this had to happen im sorry" in the endanyway. save ai please.MMO thoughtsprobably the scrapper sombra that takes advantage of her passive to seek and destroy already low health ppl. that kinda flimsy but potentially game changing hybrid character makes sense for her for ai but the way ai and jamie play her would be considerably different in michis eyes.like ai hacks distracted ppl rather than health packs, will EMP to secure personal kills rather than to initiate or mantain a push, etc. scary.or a sym that places turrets to fuck over ppl that follow her at low health.for wow probably a scrapper rogue as well but likely one that accidentally pulls/ picks fights (but punishes ppl who attack her none the less). probably does more in pvp. has a low level smurf just for level 19 battlegrounds u know. the works
ā ;0 ?
so ;0 once again michi thinks ayato is a hotin the twin's early correspondence she already had formed an opinion on him. miko went to her to ask for ppl she thought she should date (since she came to hopes peak to marry rich) and michi recognized his last name/thought he was cute so he was one of the firsts on her ok listso there's that.she also knew he had a sister he thought of fondly which is an easy way to make michi feel endeared to you.she didn't form too much of a true opinion on him until she found his lab coat in the mono machine and asked around about it. miko knew the situation predictably and told her only enough to understand but michi thought it was really cool and honorable since she also holds STEM fields in high esteem.she hates corruption so the fact that he was growing from that impressed her. of course this probably would've been different if she didn't like him to begin with so that was a coin flip of bias.when she confronted him she hoped he'd spill so they could be on the same footing but he didn't and she hates to pry so she just. died essentiallymiko told her that he was scared of her and she had a good "ohoho!" laugh before being like ): oh wait ):she was really happy that she could really make a difference with ayato and stabilize him with holly's (actually trained) help. it legitimately made her emotional after all of her other failures so thank u ayato.so like it's weird bc she had nothing but a good opinion on him until the end but... she hardly spoke to the guy. she's glad he took a backseat bc she knows how stressful almost dying (legitimately) is and was glad he got some time to himselfMMO thoughts:so she knows he's actually good at overwatch but her stupid bias/how she sees him in trial is...a mccree who's kind of a bad hit scan but has the really charming voice lines and the black watch skin so u keep him in the party even though he winds up under fire a lot and needs a lot of healingthat or true-to-his-main a genji that does that "jump up and down in front of ana to beg for healing without letting her aim properly" thing. not a problem for michi but it's still kind of :/for wow she views him as a well mannered beast master hunter w/ a stress free, easy rotation that he still puts middling dps with. nice transmogs though! really seksi
hey ā
so gentas another conundrum for michiko since... wellaside from their first trial together where michiko firmly believed he was there to waste time (which doesn't align with her fast paced, kind of linear mindset), she grew to respect genta's advice for her. over time she became less rigid but after that she generally became more... conniving? or at least somewhat calculated in her voting system which eventually contributed to a mistrial which she's mortified about with respect to how genta views her. i think mortified remains a good word for how she feels about him. she was only growing to feel warmer toward him right before he was killed -- an uncharacteristically strong opinion change for her -- and then he went into her room in desperation for help.she feels like she failed him then and feels absolutely awful about keeping the medic charade up so long that he went to her of all people to save himor so she believesand then the combined stress of seeing him die (which she can't UNsee and has been stressing her out so badly that she's had to repress it [haha brackets but that'll inevitably contribute to a full fledged breakdown after endgame])? she was relieved to talk to him again and even more relieved to see that it's a vr but... in a way that's mostly "oh. hell. he saw me be pigheaded again during his murder trial."in a way his death + her hesitation to talk to him again has created this sort of image of genta in her mind which sounds melodramatic butall in all she harbors no ill will at all toward him but she's so hyper focused on how he must view her that she can't imagine being casual with him again. she thinks she owes him a big debt so if genta ever wanted that sweet cash... he'd probably have to cough in her direction and she'd offer lolalso i don't think she ever found out he was even a clone? unless i'm misremembering? but she'd be so stoked in a "oh sweet science is great" and a "oh! i, too, have someone with a functionally identical genome" wayMMO thoughts:gentas strong focus on the group and his methods of approaching problems made michiko feel like she had an off tank in the room. a slow paced, conscientious one incapable of staging a push until the timers nearly out, but a tank nonetheless.seeing him as a zarya or a winston makes sense for her. zarya has a lot of tools at hand to protect, act offensively and defensively, and encourage her group to collaborate. initiating a push without her slow building ult is very difficult, though, so she feels like this slower paced character works well for him.winstons conscientious ability to dive into backlines, take out a key target, and come back also speaks to her as a genta thing. there's something about his duality that she thinks fits but... no, that's just a gut feeling, right?(or zenyatta bc zenyatta am i right)i'm not up to date on wow specs so this might be outdated but the "lore" appeal of a monk tank also makes her think of genta. they have a lot of things on rotation to handle to manage aggro (hard on this spec) and to manage their health with active mitigation (which if done improperly puts a TON of strain on healers like.... a ton)on that note michi misjudged how his health would spike before he was murdered probably :^) just like the rare occasion when she raids and has to heal a monk
ā time to kick AK5 off the table
so there's legitimately a lot of conflict here and it's mostly because michis whole "never offended, just being mad because it's cathartic" thing bled over into her immensely competitive streak with him over holly. she really started to love to hate masashi and would shittalk him despite not having anything really on him mostly for funyuka called her out and told her to get over him kissing holly bc he didn't Know they were together just so u knowafter yukas death and trial it started to legitimately irk her though because Yeah It Was A Vr but he treated her death so flippantly. plus because she knew about his ;) deal ;) she started interpreting most things through the lens of his fetish and the idea of him even marginally enjoying st like yukas death legitimately pissed her offi guess in all she knew her "anger" at him wasn't justified from the start but she didn't know how to associate him with any other emotion. she'd suck it up to help holly and others when the situation called for it because she did legitimately appreciate his helpbut maybe that's also bc she felt overworkedin terms of how she sees them after this... she hopes that's he doesn't bother her or holly anymore but knows it's unrealistic. she's already drafting a diplomatic apology but... kicking ak5 is going to forever and always be in his #notes section. he was innocent!she always wanted to see his talent in action btw it legitimately intrigues her. if he murdered using it she might've been like "ahh... interesting"MMO thoughtshe's junkrat i'm sorry she just thinks he's junkrat. the sheer amount of confusion that playing him requires and the setup it can take (trap+concussive mine+bomb combo; positioning and being tricky with his ult to give the other team anxiety) relates not only to his talent but what she thinks his likes would entaili mean mei would also make a lot of sense but situationally. you know not seriously but just to be a dickshe'd peg him as any wow class that requires a varied and convoluted rotation which unfortunately is being simplified as the game continues. likely a warlock who has to keep dots cycling in order to be marginally effective but my understanding of wow balance is a little bad atm BUT... that's the ticket for what michi would think
ā the jam
i guess right off the bat i wanna say that michi thinks he's a ;) hottie ;)but anywayfor all of the frustration that he's caused her periodically she only ever had a positive outlook on him, especially after he went of his way to continually support her when she was too weak/confused to do it herself. the echo chamber effect that she, miko, tadashi, and holly could have in trials made their defense of each other feel weaker so it always genuinely touched her whenever jamie went out of his way to say something about her. she thought that it was pretty amazing to do this without disclosing too much about himself. she's curious about him a lot (and his friend back home -- she'd like a fresh challenger in video games!) but respects him too much to pry or invade his privacy. she was against putting him into the murder lottery too much and against any potential frame on him for what that's worthshe's still a little too mortified to approach him one on one after despair fever, but sees herself potentially attempting if her sister is there to try to gel it over and break the ice since she's used to talking people like that anywayjamie was the person outside of her friend group that she'd often try to keep herself motivated to "save" -- what i mean by that is that she truly wanted everyone out alive, but jamie was (probably) then non-friend that she had the highest opinion of in terms of alive kids at the end. for that reason seeing him leave and be safe was a high priority for herif she hadn't backed off immediately after embarrassing herself i'm sure she'd like to talk shit or quietly observe minor drama with him from time to time.MMO thoughts:she thinks he'd do well playing sombra. she gets a good layout of the battlefield, great vantage points, can observe, and make game changing situations entirely on her own. it's a little tongue in cheek but since sombra rarely gets credit for creating these situations (and a team member who capitalized on it does) it plays into his talent wellshe associates him a lot with behind the scenes work and sombra aligns perfectly for him there -- she's an offense hero, but she needs the game sense and observational prowess of a support heroroles in wow are a little more discrete so she has a harder time pinning him for something there, but a frost mage who emphasizes crowd control would be what she settled on. the studious mage aesthetic also fits well for him, she thinks, but that's more cosmetic than gameplay oriented
ā welcome to heck
she understands tadashi more than she would have ever liked but it destroys some innate biases she had against him (i.e. dimissive toward family life especially)i think for her she really appreciates and likes him -- she relates on some, overtired, vaguely arrogant level -- but recognizes that she would have never associated with someone like him if it hadn't been for this setting. it's him and yuka that keep her from wishing the situation had never happened because she knows she just wouldn't have clicked with them otherwise.it's an absolute toss up for her if she prefers shittalking with him or with yuka. both of them are more fun and she gets to play different roles -- she's the more aggressive shit talker with yuka and the more subdued one with tadashi. it's a little silly but she understands photography more bc of the mind meld with him. she used to just nod along when her mom complained about bad lighting but she never really got it.she's unsurprised that miko ended up with him in the end, but she's genuinely not sure how things will work out for him now that they could leave. despite it all and despite seeing the absolute worst sides of him, she has context for all of his actions and can only remember that he didn't act on his awful ideas toward her and her sister which matters the most to her. she hopes for mikos sake that the relationship is strong and happy for a long time, but also thinks that her kind and patient sister makes a natural foil to his pent up rage. she knows. she's there too, dashshe's excited to really know him as he's never been after this all ends. she hopes for new experiences that exceed the cards he's been dealt in life so that he might have the chance to relax for some time.and well. no more murder from him. that'd be a deal breaker.MMO THOUGHTS:she's biased but she feels he has the personality of an annoyed support down pat. she thinks a duality -- that is, able to damage and have other abilities in his kit -- make sense for him given how his priorities works.definitely would suggest that he play zen tarts if she can teach him aim. the ability to make people take more damage and headshot them is something she finds satisfying but not viable for herself competitively as much, but if ur not worried about that he's a great way to take out stress.plus the idea of him saying "experience tranquility" is hilarious to her.it's also selfish but she personally likes having zenyatta as a secondary healer to ana so it'd just work out well. all in all she knows she sees games in the future with him and is excited to have someone to #salt about useless non life threatening stuff with. god those other teammates, are they right?probably pegs him as a disc priest for similar reasons which is a big compliment since that's her wow main.

here she is
Iām so sorry you guys
Send me aĀ ā for my museās opinion of yours.
She's in the process of ignoring Ryan's Yelle and then just leers across the podium to look at Masashi. "Ooh, yeah, I bet that'd /really/ excite you. Haha." Her tongues poking out and it'd kind of hard to tell how seriously she's taking it.
im stopping this soon.
Michi runs over to save her boy, holding him in her arms (injuries be damned). He was housing her mountain dew. "Oh, suck it, Oichi. Jokes on you because I wanted to be executed. Don't take it out on my... friend. He's defenseless." And then she turns up Bubble Pop really loudly. Look at what you've cursed the courtroom with mash and meech.
Michi waves a hand tiredly at Masashi. "Oh look! Helpful as always. Will you hush for once? I only ever put up with you because Holly liked you and I thought there'd be something more to you but... well! There really isn't. Shoo now."
thanks michiko.
mm 1.2 | michiko | i think justice could use a little nap
Michikoās eyes flick to the side quickly, narrowing somewhat at Haruna. Ā She doesnāt really care for her jabs at Tadashi ā all things considered, he could handle himself, butā¦
Ugh.
āThatās enough. Ā Youāre acting as though youāre not on good terms with other virtual murderers here ā one of which who likely did not know this is a VR, which means they thought they were permanently killing someone. I donāt really care about that personally ā we all have prerogatives and friends ā but you seem unaware of your hypocrisy here. Ā Youāre tiring me.ā
Sheās uncharacteristically positioned herself in front of Miko instead of the other way around. Thatās one way to get yourself killed, healer!
āI already gave evidence, and it would seem that youāre insistent on making me leave this place with a nasty taste in my mouth about you. Ā Sheās my sister. Ā We were separated at first. Ā We got into this place on dual talents ā if she were the mastermind, Iād be the other one and Iām not.Ā Thereās no situation where sheād set this up so weād be separated, miserable, and likely to be killed at a momentās notice without the other there to protect us ā or to even know about it within the hour that it happened.ā
She throws her hands up.
āYouāre also willfully ignoring the fact that this murder was partially done to force a mastermind trial ā which Iād have to be stupid to do unless I were intent on incriminating Miko, which Iām clearly not. Ā Iāll never understand why you want to pin this on her so badly when⦠well, by all accounts, it makes little sense. Ā The writing doesnāt match hers at all⦠itās not so much that thereās concrete evidence against it insofar as itās that no evidence actively points toward her on any non-superficial level.Ā Ooh, Overwatch. Ā So what? Ā Weāve been over these same weak arguments and Iām ready for legitimately compelling ones, now. Ā I want this to be the last trial, so please letās not waste time.ā
Thereās no desperation in her voice, just exhaustion. Ā She canāt remember when sheād slept last.
āAnyway⦠the book, please? Ā Iām sure that piece of evidence will prove more than Iām capable of, seeing how nothing will convince you that Iām serious.ā
mm trial 9.1 | michiko | ain't no lie baby byeā«bye bye
Itās all adrenaline thatās keeping her going, her hands trembling with the exertion, still in pain from her wounds before. None of it matters if they get out alive, though. Nothing matters so long as the class doesnāt, for the love of anything, vote for Mikoāsā
The bearās voice declares the trial over as soon as sheās finished speaking. No one has time to react to her admission, no one changes their vote, no one has time to blink before itās considered useless⦠she had acted too late. Sheās reminded of overtimes where shes running back to step on the point, descending from her perch, only for the timer to run out milliseconds before she makes it.
ā¦And the ensuing āLOL nice try anaāās and the post-defeat death she inevitably suffers.
(Only⦠itās a 3v4 for some reason and she still has to work together with her enemy team andā ok this metaphor is getting messy.)
(Maybe a guild really is a better comparison.)
Her arms fall, brushing against her sides. Wordlessly, she puts the jacket back on, responsibility weighing heavily on her shoulders. Sheād tried, but what does it matter if they still lose in the endā¦? And although all of the stakes are digital, itās not like that hadnāt been Michikoās primary motivation before Hopeās Peak.
Wordlessly, she takes her sisters hand and squeezes it, despite that it hurts at the moment. She lets Tadashi go on his rant uninterrupted ā sheād be hoping for it, really, sheād complained enough with him in private ā and watches him, only moving to let him be closer to her sister and to steady him somewhat.
āDonāt strain yourself.ā
She smirks at a few of his lines, her eyes crinkling, but thereās no lasting effect there. This⦠had been quite the defeat, after all. No amount of regrouping could salvage it.
And sheās fine, maybe, she thinks. Ā Sheās used to around-the-clock working, sleepless nights, confusing communication, strategy planning and number crunching. Ā Itās taken her until now to tell herself that itās all the same, because it isnāt, reallyā¦
Especially not with Miko shuddering next to her, breaking, and her own lip quivers when she sees it. Ā If she were in a better mood ā if they were crying at a commercial or a stupid WoW song parody, maybe ā sheād quip that they share minds and emotions and blah blah blah.
She pulls Miko close suddenly, patting her short hair protectively. Ā They canāt undo this ā she doesnāt have a battle rez in her kit ever ā but⦠maybe they can stop it from becoming any worse. Ā Itās ok, she keeps telling herself, if everyoneās fine in the end.
Which they will be.
(Sort of.  Maybe.  Why is everything so uncertain)
āItās as Miko says. We saw how Mr. Swanson was deleted ā absolutely deleted ā from existence. Heās gone. Dead. For good. If weād waited for a motive to be announced⦠someone else might have died like that, too. I mean that selfishly, though ā if Miko died? If Holly died? I⦠well, to me, it was better to do this. Make it confusing, like Miko said, but in the end wrap it around on us. That way, if we messed up this mastermind trial again, weād be safe from dying for real during the next potential motive, too ā you know, by fake-dying-via-execution. It was calculated, so sorry about that. Ā I mean that to you, too, Mr. Matsuo-kun.ā
She massages one of her hands, grimacing. She watches as her sister makes her own formal introduction, and then sighs herself, leaning on her somewhat for her own support, headbutting her cheek affectionately.
āAnd⦠if you know her work, you know mine. Iām also known as [BYE(star)BYE] ā thatās the kind of medic I am. Um, unlike her, though, please donāt feel obliged to call me that. Iāve truthfully worked hard to begin medical school after my secondary education but⦠my work there obviously wasnāt enough to get me into this school for being a doctor. My, um, online work was apparently a lot more persuasive. Somehow. I⦠really didnāt mean it cruelly ā honest! ā it would just have been embarrassing to my family⦠theyāve worked so hard to make names for themselves, and if their only daughters were to go here for playing, um, video games⦠thatād be on second rate tabloids for months, probably. I hope I can one day be worthy of the ā admittedly ambiguous ā title I was granted here.ā
She smiles but itās definitely pained, not spreading to her eyes. Ā She just wants to take Miko and go, but they canāt go anywhere until this awful trial is over.
āBut Mikoās right there, too ā we tried to make it random to make it impersonal. Truly wasnāt expecting to roll Ms. Kimoto⦠and, um, if itās worth anything, Iām sincerely remorseful toward her.ā
She sighs, releasing some tension in her shoulders.
āI donāt intend to waste my breath or your time any further, so⦠letās just agree that we all want to get out of here. We can all work together for that goal, right? If not for the people immediately around us, um, for the people who have exited the VR already and who are relying on us as well. Iām determined to make this our last trial ā for real! So I wonāt, um, intentionally do anything destructive again. I just want to get out of here and try to set my life straightā¦.ā
She smiles warmly at Miko at her comment, some sadness tugging at the corners of her eyes.
āOh, my dear⦠youā¦! Ah, but her point stands, yes? I⦠canāt imagine intentionally being separated from herā and oh, yes, Mr. Fenn, thatās why.ā
She doesnāt say so unkindly, and instead presses her hands to her mouth, almost infectiously happy alongside Jamie. Sheās glad that Ai had sent that text in the end ā it wouldāve really made her feel bad to feign suspicion on him.
(But thereās a slight twinge of⦠something⦠when Ryan refers to her sister so familiarly⦠fight it! Ā Fight it!)
āBut I hope you all can trust that sheās not guilty of this any longer. I donāt expect trust from, um, any of you really, but Iām sure that point goes without saying on our part. Besides, I believe many of us have a solid case for who our mastermind is. We can dive into that, or we can start by discussing what the real nature and intent of our VR prison has been. I am⦠ok to discuss either.ā
She perks up at the book, however.
āThatās probably our best starting point, actually.ā
9.6 | i don't know what to title this | ebullience + michiko
Michiko and EBULLIENCE are thankfully quiet for a moment, watching the volleying go back and forth. Ā EBULLIENCE steps in after a minute, her voice raising.
āNo. Ā Nothing youāre saying makes sense, Ms. Sasaki. Ā Itās notĀ dirtĀ in the hospital room, it was probablyĀ dust. Ā Your timeline? Ā Bad. Ā Sorry, but it is. Ā Your optimistic view of Mr. Matsuo-kunās strength? Laughable. Ā Really now.ā
She looks over at Yuji, and a look just sets into her brow. Ā Ok. And she then looks over to Tadashi, almost sympathetically.
In one movement, she picks up Michikoās bag that had housed AK5. Ā She dumps it on the podium, and out sprinklesā¦
Identical heels to Michikoās? Ā They have⦠oh.
Dirt all over them.
Thereās also a gun in there and some candy but thatās neither here nor there.
And then it looks like EBULLIENCE begins to stripā oh god please no not againā butā¦
A long skirt comes tumbling down once she takes off her short one, and her jacket peels away to revealā¦
An identical outfit to Michikoās. Ā Um.
And finally, she grabs the top of her hair and yanks on it ā what theĀ fuck ow stop āĀ butā¦
Um.
It comes cleanly off. Ā The purple wig that Telos had grown so used to tumbles to the ground.
ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦.
Oh for fucks sake are they seriouslyā
āYouāre right, Mr. Matsumoto. Ā Nothingās worth lying about, and itās in my ā ha ā medicalĀ opinion that Mr. Matsuo-kun canāt lift anything to save his life. Ā Iām not EBULāā¦. forget it. Ā I canāt say it. Ā It turns out youĀ canĀ be in two places at once if you have, I donāt know, a twin.ā
She looks annoyed, her hands on her hips, wincing as they make contact.
āThereās no benefit to voting for Tadashi because itās not him! Ā Letās end this once and for all, ok?ā
