Ailani had absolutely 0 opinion of Michiko prior to the merge for fairly obvious reasons. She might have heard Holly bring her up at one point, but never remembered. Then she rapidly came into focus during the 5th trial, and... Ailani was suspicious. Meech was never that high up on her suspect list but wasn’t ruled out at all, as an accomplice could have been involved. Still, as the truth came out she felt a bit sorry for her as being involved in such an incident without wanting to. Ailani could understand.

However, the biggest thing Ailani took away was that - well, Ailani stares at people to lipread them. It’s how she understands communication, especially in a loud trial room. And staring at Michiko’s face, and staring at Tomiko’s face? She immediately caught on that something was up between the two, and that they were likely at least related if not direct twins. And Ailani softened the slightest bit towards her, seeing how she was related to Tomiko and several people appeared to have high opinions of her.... her being a medic a helpful bonus. 

As Ailani became closer to Yuka, she knew that Michiko was close to Yuka too and by proxy this further softened Ailani to the girl. So what if she was a little dodgy about her identity? So was Ailani. No biggie. Seeing Michiko’s performance in trials endeared her further, but... well, it got to the point where she became very, very fearful of what would become of her if she was caught lying by Michiko regarding the robot claim during the sixth trial. 

This was in fact why she kept the farce up for so long, because Michiko seemed so upset over potentially having her time wasted that she didn’t wish to risk being caught in her lie. She was anyways, but.

The confirmation that Michiko was Tomiko’s sister didn’t come as much of a surprise to her, and she was grateful there was yet another competent person on the job. When it came to her trial, though, Ailani was fully aware that Michiko provided an adversary she would have to wheedle her way out of being suspected by, because she was 500% sure things would turn out badly if she did.

And they.... didn’t. Rather, Ailani was utterly indebted to her for not having revealed what went on. And when it came to the mastermind trials, things utterly came crashing upon her head. Ryan not being the mastermind left her to scrabble for someone else to accuse, and unfortunate they were Tomiko. At the time her mind was working at 3000 miles a minute, and she normally wouldn’t have thought to accuse Miko because Ailani was worried she’d ruin what they had built up until then.

As it was her crush’s trial, unfortunately, it did not. Tomiko was the result of her trying to find someone to pin it on to finish things up, so hopefully, they could leave. Ailani was thinking very irrationally at the time, and after the fact she intended to apologize to Miko and Michiko, but.. never did.

The last trial, her opinion very rapidly plummeted as she didn’t know what was going on and was pissed off that Michiko tried disturbing the crime scene. Didn’t she know that was unnecessary? The mastermind was still at large. The opinion she ended up with is very much influenced by how she feels right now and inevitably it will soften, but in the end she was more irritated than anything and how even this level-headed good-at-trials individual could still bend to the force of friendship.

Ailani’s entire opinion on Tadashi is very... petty. Initial thoughts were that he was kind of forgettable, just that person in the background who occasionally offered advice and kept things in check. A cool head among the others. This was as much as she could ask for, all things considered. But as time went on, she sensed the occasional cracks in the facade and his general exasperation, and thought - “Hey, isn’t he trying to do what I’m trying to do?”. Indeed, Ailani believed that Tadashi was trying to be lowkey not to attract attention, and.... well, she could empathize, but this in her mind was not a good thing. She Must Be Number One. 

Actually, it was more that she sensed Tadashi as a potential threat in that he appeared to be one of the most logical people there, and Ailani viewing rationale as a good skill to have developed a mixed opinion on this. On one hand, it was appreciated, but on the other anyone cleverer than her was not a very good thing, especially since he seemed very well liked by other people Ailani saw as potentially valuable allies. So this began the pettiness in which she absolutely hated Tadashi because she saw him as a rival. This started about trial 3, and continued all the way up to endgame. 

So yes, much of Ailani’s opinion on Tadashi was that she, covertly, saw him as a rival. But she saw that he was a valuable person to keep on the good side of, and... tried her damn best to. However, she couldn’t get a good read on his personality or motivations and because of this she was unsure how to act - especially since she was trying to exhibit so many traits in order to get so many people to like her. If Dash was wondering why she seemed to flip flop so much, this was why. Especially since, after the truth came out, she took a “why bothr” approach to the simulation and felt less of a need to act coolheaded. The grudge against Tadashi lessened around this time as Ailani’s mind was occupied with other issues, and the fact that she never interacted with him one on one did nothing to dispel this either.

The change in demeanor did relax Ailani a little as she felt she had more of a read on him, but this didn’t do him any service to her opinion either. Rather, she saw him as someone she really had to be on the good side of, since she was certain that very bad things awaited if not. 

This was only confirmed in the next few trials post-merge, but as time had caused her mind to shift away from this, she thought less of potentially framing him during her case. Chapter 8 actually involved a contingency plan in case something went awry, and... in fact, the glasses found under the motorbike were painted black with acrylics from the shop in order to resemble Tadashi’s glasses, along with the camera bag. The intention had been to frame him (ha) from the start, but it changed to Ailani realizing that... well, he wouldn’t have done something so obvious. She didn’t expect people to so readily find the camera bag, and changed her tune pretty quickly after that. The defense in trial was because Ailani saw her bag being revealed as a frame offered a chance to get him on her good side, after all who would expect a murderer to defend the person she framed instead of pursuing it? So yes, that was entirely out of Ailani’s fear that she’d get on Tadashi’s bad side, oops.

Following the trial, she... was genuinely fearful that Tadashi was angry that she framed him, and was part of her reason for staying scarce. Then came the final trial, and... she did not investigate nor had any idea what happened, but it was sheer pettiness that drove her to vote for Tadashi. Basically her longstanding “rivalry” with him culminating in her viewing him as too suspicious for her tastes. So knowing he did it, even if he might not be executed? Good enough, as she felt she proved that she was superior, even if she was pissed that he lied.

From the start, Ailani thought Ayato seemed pretty cool. She never interacted with him too too extensively before the trial, but the investigation spurred her into thinking that there was the slightest possibility he could have done it that fateful first trial, but setting his defense and how it became abundantly clear he wasn’t guilty, Ailani herself felt… guilt. Here was this man, accused just based off of this one piece of evidence, and this solidified how ruthless the nature of the mutual killing was. 

Then talking to him more afterwards and learning just how much Ayato felt, and seeing how chill he seemed, this softened her towards him. If nothing else, Ailani has a sense of justice, and this pulled down her barriers pretty readily as a result. She also tends to latch onto people who remind her of her other loved ones, and his general demeanor actually called to mind her uncle. So yes, Ayat Akiyama confirmed for cool chill uncle in her mind. She still felt really bad, but out of all of the premerge class Ayato was the only one she felt genuinely comfortable around consistently. 

Part of this was because she felt she had a lot in common with him, and just because of how down to earth he seemed. Not the type that had much to harbor - after all, Ailani tends to judge people based on tropes and first impressions, and nothing was given to shake the initial impression she received of him. Ayato was just such a cool dude. 

As time went on, Ailani felt genuinely comfortable hanging around him - enough to let down her guard, especially considering the chaos of everything going on. Talking to him was like being in the eye of a hurricane, tranquil for only a brief time before trials were once again involved. And she could sense there being some regret in Ayato, another trait she felt she understood. 

Then that fateful conversation where the two comforted each other, I forgot exactly when it was but iirc around Chapter 4-5. This gave Ailani a sense that she was looking after someone, for once she was the one responsible for taking care of another. Normally she wouldn’t even dream of something like this, but in a lot of ways it made her feel like she could actually do something instead of stand by as people she liked were hurt - Ayato being one of the very few people she even somewhat trusted. Like seriously, there’s only three people in the entirety of DA6 she trusted a lot, and he was one of them. 

Chapter 6 trial only reinforced what she thought of him, how she could be accused on little evidence. And she put herself in his shoes, and felt how easily someone could turn on another just because of evidence. Ayato defended her. He was there for her. And that meant so much to Ailani, that someone was willing to support her instead of going on one piece of evidence.

Then came chapter seven, where she was… genuinely terrified. There was Ayato, one of her closest friends and someone she never knew to have made enemies, conked out. And the way he was injured brought bad memories back to her about Yang, and how easily someone could be taken away from her. Speaking of, this is part of the reason she was so angry during that trial - she saw Ayato being knocked out as completely and entirely unnecessary. He did not even see what was going on! There was no point. 

And this formed her mentality that she had to look after Ayato. 

Then came trial eight, where she was supported by him, and this was basically one of the catalysts for the single moment she felt guiltiest in. The realization that Ayato believed her, tried defending her, offered protection…. the realization she killed Yuka? That was a horrible feeling. And it rocked her mentality that perhaps, caring only for herself wouldn’t lead to happiness after all.

But she wishes desperately to talk to Ayato again and hopefully keep in contact because she honestly sees him as her closest friend there and wants to know he’s doing well.

Ailani didn’t have very much of an opinion of Andrew for the longest time. He was just that short boy off in the corner, though she did feel warm towards him because he reminded her of someone she knew. And she could admire his talent, being a fellow person interested in artistic endeavours, she didn’t feel as challenged because he wasn’t really a novelist like her. She thought his relationship with Hanako was sweet, even if she thought he had chosen someone volatile for a bf. 

Then came Hanako’s trial, and she lost exactly one point of respect for him. She doesn’t much like dramatics even if she understood him lying, but like was said she doesn’t get people throwing down their lives for others. It’s simply not how she thinks. Still, her opinion quelled and she mostly forgot about him post-merge.

That is, until the outburst. Ailani hates chaos more than anything because she cannot keep up. So when he began yelling, for every minute it went on he lost another point of like. She saw him as hypocritical and was very pissed off, which was admittedly heightened by the stress she felt. Still, after he was executed that was the end of it, and her opinion towards Andrew softened as time went on... mostly, she just felt there were bigger fish to fry and that her judgement was influenced by hate. 

In the end, she still dislikes him, but would prefer for him to stay away from her.

OH BOY HERE WE GO... from the beginning, Ailani had a good vibe from Yuka, something that rarely happens. She just sensed Yuka was capable and was levelheaded, something that she really admires in others. Of course, while her gut instinct told her this, her head informed her of something else. Namely, alarm bells were blaring because the last time she trusted someone almost immediately they ended up “stealing her fame” and dying. But being with Yuka was fun, and it almost took away from the trauma of the situation. Almost. She was also glad someone else shared her taste for noodles. 

Also Ailani is a big gay and fell in love with Yuka pretty dang quickly. Love to Ailani is a funny thing - she has only crushed on one other person like this in her life (guess who), but when she falls, she falls hard. This was the other half of the equation, when she crushes on someone she tends to let down her guard. This was the same with Holly and why she liked her so much, Ailani had a small crush on her too. That’s not here nor there, but now Ailani’s heart told her to trust Yuka, and seeing her in trial and how competent she was really boosted her opinion. 

Spending time with Yuka only increased her like of the other, when the two were flirting, doing makeup, having fun... in general it really did put Ailani at ease which was quite a feat considering how tightly wound she normally is during the mutual killing. Still, she was caught between trusting and not trusting, which sent her into a bit of a crisis. 

Eventually she decided to confide in Yuka, who managed to get quite a lot of her Deal over the course of the first few meetings. She thought that since Yuka already knew, it was no trouble to at least have some faith in her. Then, because she viewed Yuka as the most dependable person there, this kicked off the big fiasco resulting in Yuka’s death. 

Ailani never intended to kill Yuka, nor did that possibility even come to her. In fact, she really didn’t even think at all - she just saw Yuka dead and blanked. No thoughts of who the murderer was, just that yet another person was stolen from her. Ailani is very selfish and tends to think in terms of something’s relation to her, so Yuka’s death reminded her of the last time her actions resulted in someone kicking it. Then during the trial she finally realized (a lot earlier than she said) that she was the one responsible, and this caused her to have a crisis.

There she was again, ruining things. But no, it was the world out to get her! That was her mentality. Still, the emotions were genuine. She cared about Yuka a whole lot and had a big crush on her, so she was distraught over that. Her speech at the end was spun to garner sympathy, but for Yuka, she felt compassion. 

So they saw each other again after the trial (which I don’t think we ever finished), and Ailani’s guilt was alleviated only somewhat. She’ll probably never forgive herself for accidentally killing the person she trusted most, but she fully intends to pursue Yuka after the game if at all possible and wants to live a life of crime.

As said before, Ailani is a very petty soul and when she learned just what Genta’s talent entailed, she became even pettier. How could this man who didn’t even want talent sell his book and get a SHSL? This rubbed salt into an old wound and immediately made her envious of Genta, but he seemed like a nice enough guy, which.... was not a good thing, because she very quickly pegged him as an ideal victim and he went straight onto her list of people she’d gladly kill.

This didn’t necessarily mean he was seen by her as someone she disliked, in fact the opposite was true. Jealousy aside, she did think he was pretty cool and enjoyed his field of study, so he was good in her books. Still, after the ascent to the top of the hotel and their time spent going back down, she saw him as more someone who she could potentially involve in a murder plan if needed.

Then he died.

Oops.

Ailani then realized just how much people appeared to like him, and began having second thoughts about her first impressions of people. Genta’s death and the aftermath, especially Yuka’s opinion, actually inspired her to start viewing others as complex people and not just tropes until otherwise proven, and she even felt a little bit bad for him. Then all that was pushed aside as the longer from his death, the more she had other concerns.

Final Thoughts: Cool guy, don’t kill him, she was wrong.

Kanon seemed to Ailani to be the ideal type of person at first glance - capable and coolheaded. Then the first trial went on, and that flew out the window. She took a negative view of the girl from that, how someone seemingly so respectable could turn. But that just reinforced her belief that one shouldn’t trust others for they could turn around and be somebody they were not. From there her opinion became “staunch avoid” because she was fearful of her and didn’t want to get on her bad side.

Her relationship with Haruna also earned ire, as Ailani thought she was keeping bad company. Still, even as time went on Kanon remained relatively levelheaded especially as the shitstorm of the trials continued to rage on, so this was enough to earn respect in her book.

Then came Kanon’s trial, which reinforced the first opinion Ailani held, and basically caused her opinion to rapidly plummet - just when she had decided to give a little more faith to people, this ended up happening. 

Oh, she hated this.

Though the thing she disliked more was Kanon allowing others to accuse Ailani, but that was unfair of her, as she realized afterwards. By that point she had just become weary, and the entire Kanon thing was treated with disdain. Her main focus at the time was on herself, not this confusing mixup about two people. Other than that, Ailani just placed Kanon to the backburner.  

Final Thoughts: Doesn’t wish to talk to again, not respect

From the outset, Haruna was one of the people Ailani disliked most. Her being her this wouldn’t be noteworthy, but she earned the distinction of being Ailani’s very first target consideration should she need to murder. She pegged Haruna as being very driven by her principals - which she didn’t see as a good thing in the context of the killing game. That would wind her in trouble one of these days, Ailani figured. Still, her more pressing issue was staying alive, so she was content to ignore Haruna, but certain in her dislike and comfortable with showing it openly because it didn’t seem to her to be an opinion fixed simply to one person. She tends to follow mob mentality as far as her open opinions go (this is  far from the truth internally), so she decided to stay as far away from the other as possible.

However, as time went on she began collecting respect for Haruna. This was bolstered by the interaction the two had - she saw the other as more someone who was (perhaps) unfairly targeted by others, a situation she could relate to. This softened her opinion a bit, though she was still ready and willing to single out Haruna if necessary. Her role in debating ethics in trials also left her wishing to ascend to the next realm, but Ailani saw that as more of a collective thing than anything.

Then came the Great Robot Debacle and Ailani knew she was bullshitting and not in a position to argue, but the issue with Haruna pouring wine over her rubbed her the wrong way. She’s a little cagey over anything water-related because of bad memories regarding it in her past, and that helped her play-act being a robot sensitive to water. Still, this made her feel quite upset towards Haruna.

Their interaction after trial softened her opinion further, but all that came crashing down during Kazuko’s trial. Ailani tends to think people who let emotions rule their heads (especially when it comes to interpersonal interaction) are weak, and Haruna was no different. Especially when she was being blamed for the murder for the second time in a row, she became quite pissed. Ailani saw Haruna as hypocritical and basically this rocketed her to place #1 on the list of students she hated once again, but beyond that with Haruna Ailani was being challenged on her insecurities. While she doesn’t care if she gets attention (good or bad), she’s still afraid of people belittling her, and putting trust in others, all of which she saw during the trial. But beyond that, she just hated what she saw as hypocrisy on the part of the other. 

Then all that became confusion after yet another interaction post-trial, and she eventually settled for respect after she had time to cool her head. This especially came about because of Haruna’s... attitude towards her during her own murder trial. Haruna had her in a position where she could criticise Ailani for things she criticised others for. But no. And that warmed her ever so slightly. This was bolstered by her performance at the end of the last trial, Haruna carrying everything despite Ailani not knowing what went on? And ultimately, supporting her.

In short, she has a lot of mixed feelings but in the end the positives outweigh the negatives and Haruna wins the honour of being the person AIlani had the biggest opinion shift for. She wouldn’t even mind being in contact if they escape.

Her first impression of him was that he was a friend of Holly’s, someone she was halfway fond of. This earned him a bit of respect, but this quickly fizzled out as time went on and she began seeing more of his character. Ailani tends to be offput if she cannot get a good read on a person, and for Masashi this wasn’t any different. Still, he didn’t act openly antagonistic at first, so she just decided to give him a wide berth.

This didn’t really change much as time went on, but as she saw more of his personality she didn’t really get any warmer towards him as a person, in fact her thoughts went something like “Wow, Golly picks really bad people to trust” and she was halfway convinced he might shank someone at some point. Still, all of this kind of was left to the wayside in the aftermath of the last to trials so he remains sort of that background antagonist to Ailani. No wish to engage with him, but no particular animosity either.

Ailani’s initial impression of people with talents close to hers is... very not positive. She feels challenged on a point she is touchy about considering she didn’t truly deserve her talent - moreso out of fear that people would expose her as a fake rather than actual insecurity. So when Jamie comes, and introduces himself, Ailani perceives him as similar to her in many respects and because of that she was put off by him from the start. Her first introduction to him was during a secrets motive where she was fucking terrified of what could be out there.

And then it turns out he had her secret card, and her first reaction was legitimately to consider going over and fighting him. But she knew that wasn’t a good thing in the context of the setting, so she refrained especially after he said he forgot what was in the secret. 

This cast the first bit of positive light on her impression of him. The next was... as time went on, he genuinely seemed to her to be a chill guy. Basically everything Ailani was not, so her opinion on jam mellowed out a whole lot. Especially after the last trial and their talk in the library she felt a sort of kinship, and this shifted her opinion to the positive.

How Does A... || Ailani || MM Trial 9.3 || [Attn: All]

Could this already be over with? Ailani could feel the thumping pain in her skull increase by the minute. So Yuji didn’t say anything, he was just remarkably calm all things considered. So Ryan pulled out the journal and made a jab at her. That got to her a bit more, and narrowing her eyes, the author’s hands clenched at her sides before holding up the whiteboard, tension showing in the rushed marks she made on its surface.

[Roe, first of all, may I mention that I’m trying to help? Second, may I also mention that I’ve seen nothing of what anyone else has? The simulations, the room… nothing. Nobody bothered to tell me what was in them, nobody bothered to show me what was in them. And if the last trial is any indication, things go really fucking badly if I’m not informed of what goes on. Look, I know how it feels being wrongly voted for mastermind, but that’s the risk you run into here. You looked suspicious at the time, Matsomoto… nor anyone else didn’t have further evidence against him.]

She shrugged wildly.

[Because if we did, we would have already caught the mastermind. But since nobody gave me anything to work with, what am I supposed to do but tell you why I think it could be Matsumoto, one of two suspects, over Sasaki? That is why.]

After her tirade she appeared marginally calmer, but the cast of anger over her face had set deep.
