Time to Step Up | Kato | Body Reaction (Hinata)

“H-HINATA!!!”

Kato had felt a sort of unwritten connection to Hinata. He had felt somewhat responsible for Huang’s death, and since Huang and Hinata were best friends, Kato felt doubly responsible for how depressed Hinata felt afterwards. Kato had wanted to try and make up for that somehow, but never felt brave enough to approach him, fearing Hinata would be mad at him still. And now Hinata is dead.

Kato quietly walked up to Hinata’s body hangin from the palm tree.

“...I...I’m sorry.....I didn’t want to harm anyone and...Huang was killed because of what I said....B-But now...I can fix it.”

“I’ll find out who did this to you! It’s the only way I can make up for what I did!”

Kato doesn’t really need to blame himself for what’s happened, but at least he’s determined to figure this out.

“Kato! Kato, you’ve done- you’ve done n-nothing wrong,” she blurted, gripping at his wrist. “You… you can’t l-let what others think of you ch-change your s-self image, y-you can’t let them g-get to you, you have, you, you have to do what you think is r-right-!”

Why was she was getting so emotional? It was a mystery, but she pressed her face into her shoulder, beginning to sob.

“Please don’t hate yourself, p-please don’t, don’t d-doubt yours-self, you, I can’t lose you too…”

“.....This is only proving my point. Even now I’m making you feel worse because I can’t figure it out. What do I do to make people like me?... Now it’ll probably be just like home. Always alone, never knowing if even my own family wants me. It’s no different here. You always seem nervous around me. I always thought it was because you were just trying to make me feel better....” Kato finally looks over at Ayaka, and sees how worked up she was about him. With that, something in Kato’s head seemed to click back on.

“.....y-you really meant it then. All the nice things you’ve said to me. You really meant it?...I...I let myself believe no one cared about me....and now I...I....” He grabbed her hand back.

“I don’t want to lose you either!!”

She looked up, shock on her face.

“What? Kato, that’s n-not true, don’t say that-”

Shaking, Ayaka tried to get to her feet, reached out for her roommate, stumbled, grabbed his hand.

“No. That’s n-not right, you d-deserve… Please don’t…”

Kato seemed to ignore what Ayaka was saying, and just droned on...

“I’ve been nothing but a problem no matter what I do. I try to be considerate, and I’m ignored. We tried to be sympathetic and we were hated. I tried to be confident, and I end up proving someone’s guilt of murder; someone that everyone liked. I can’t seem to do anything right...”

A long time passed before the raconteur stumbled into the room she shared with Kato, shoulders shaking, eyes blank. She didn’t even look at him as she crossed the room, sitting down hard on her bed.

She stared at the floor for a long time.

“…the people I care about keep dying,” Ayaka finally mumbled.

“Do… I d-don’t even know anymore. What… what if it’s you next time, Kato? I… I…”

“Would it matter?”, Kato says softly.

He was sitting on his bed almost motionless. It looked like someone had just stolen his soul or something, with his eyes completely empty.

“Wouldn’t it just be better if someone like me would just disappear?”

Nothing Is Right, Nothing is Wrong | Chapter 4 | Kato | OPEN

After the trial for Joseph, Kato had grown quiet again. He wasn’t even talking to his roommate Ayaka anymore. He had basically shut himself out from everyone. Then at one point, you see him bolt out of his room, tear running down his face. Maybe someone saw him as he ran to the top deck of the ship. Perhaps someone followed him to see what just happened. He stands there, huddled over the railing, sobbing. And even if no one is there, Kato yells out to the sea.

“WHAT AM I DOING WRONG!?”

Kato read the letter. He looked frightened again (but what else was new). However, he didn’t freeze up or become introverted like last time. He continued to stare at their letter. His grip tightened on the paper.

“N-No...not again...”

The letter was now a rippled mess clenched in his hand.

“NO! We can’t do this again!! We can’t fall for the same trick twice!!!”

Once again he was giving a loud outburst in the hall, but now instead of sounding accidental and tense, there was a lot more confidence in his voice. What’s with this sudden change?

Sitting down on her bed, Ayaka looked over to Kato in silence. She gently reached over to the dresser and placed the disco ball and mixtape on the surface. Then she turned once more to the movie editor.

“I… I know it’s not much. But, h-here.”

The raconteur passed him the unopened deck of cards, hands trembling ever so slightly.

“They’re for you.”

Kato took the cards, he didn’t really respond to the cards particularly.

“Thanks....you know...um....”

He was trying to bring up their recently deceased roommate. It’s a bit difficult for obvious reasons.

“He wouldn’t want us to be like this....”

The motive shook her more than she expected but nevermind that, she can’t let herself get down over that!!! Not when she has video games to play! Speaking of though, it’s fucking bullshit she’s not allowed in the tournament, she’ll let others win why can’t she be given a CHANCE at least. Just sitting outside the arcade on her DS while the first round of the tournament goes on. Lame. She should be competing.

Kato had been wandering outside, he didn’t sign up for the video game tournament and didn’t really care for all the noise that came with it. But..he was still kinda curious. He headed for the arcade, still not sure if he would even join them. That’s when he saw someone sitting outside the room all alone. Was this the ‘Sour Candy’ that the mascots said couldn’t compete? Probably, because she looked... unhappy to say the least. But, given the benefit of the doubt, maybe talking about it straight to the point wouldn’t be the wisest idea.

“Um...why are you all alone. It sounds like everyone’s having fun in there, why not join them?”

“Hey, Kato?”

She pushed open the door to 3B, calling for her roommate. Ayaka continued when she spotted him, thankful she hadn’t spoken to an empty room.

“I was talking to one of the other students, Brandon Park? He’s the Ultimate DJ… and uh, he says he doesn’t have a room. He’s sleeping in the laundry room. I was wondering if it was okay with you, if uh, he stayed in here with us?”

The raconteur hesitated, then added on, “Trouble’s got his own sleeping bag and everything, and he’s fine sleeping on the floor, but if you have a problem with that then that’s okay too!”

“Huh?....Oh, yes! I’ve met him before. He seems like a nice enough fellow, so, I don’t see why he can’t stay with us.”

Kato also thought this would be a good idea so that he’d have someone else to help bounce off conversation to if he didn’t know wat to say, but, it’s probably best if he didn’t mention that part.

“Me?” She blinked, not registering the question for a moment.

“…o-oh. I’m the Ultimate Raconteur.” Ayaka paused. “That… That means storyteller.” She tried a nervous smile, hating how much her shoulders were shaking.

“......”

“Crud, what do I say now? She’s nervous as all heck, but why? Is it her talent? Is she embarrassed by it? Is it our situation? Maybe....C’mon...what can i say to make her feel better?”

“So uh, we’re roommates so, should we, find our rooms?...eheh....”

Ayaka, examining the dorm list, jumped in surprise and turned to him. “O-oh, you’re Kato?” she blurted. She checked the list again to be sure, then replied, “I ah, I guess we’re dorm mates then…” The raconteur fidgeted for a moment before saying, “I’m A-Ayaka…” Real smooth, Yak.

Kato noticed someone approaching him. She looked more nervous than he did, and that’s saying a lot. He wanted to try and make her feel more comfortable. Trying to look confident was something Kato wasn’t great at, but it’d be better than constantly stuttering to someone already seemingly nervous.

“Oh, Hello Ayaka. Nice to meet you. So, um.. I’m the Ultimate Movie Editor, what’s you’re talent if you don’t mind me asking?”

Viktor was, admittedly, a bit on edge given the situation, but he wasn’t taking it too seriously. I mean, like, no one really had any reason to kill each other, so..it’d be fine, right? 

He had been walking down the halls, in hopes that his shit was in his room, when he heard someone speaking. Blinking, he turned around to face the speaker. 

“…Viktor. Nice to meet you.”

The DJ yelled back and waved a little. He made his way over to the other student with glee, at least he seemed like a friendly face! There could never be harm in introducing yourself. Times like these meant making friends! .. Well, maybe..

Name’s Brandon Park– But you can call me Trouble, yeah! Ultimate DJ, nice t’meetcha! 

How was it this boy felt no sense of awkwardness? Nobody knew.

Kato was startled by the quick reply. He didn’t think anyone would actually hear him. But after listening to what his fellow student had to say, he seemed like a friendly person.

“Oh, H-Hi Mr. uh.. Trouble? That’s an interesting nickname hehehe...” He’s clearly not comfortable talking like this, but at least he’s putting in the effort.

“Oh I..I guess i should fully introduce myself too. Uh..K-Kato Seimitsu. Ultimate Movie Editor. So...um..w-was that good?” Since when did someone need approval of their introductions?

Well things have certainly taken a turn for the worst. No one knows what the deal is with this boat, why we’re all here or what the point of the killing rule is. So as obvious as it is, Kato isn’t taking this very well. He stands in the hallway where all the dorm rooms are.

“This isn’t good, this isn’t good, this isn’t good......okay, keep it together. There’s no way anyone would hurt someone else here. I don’t think anyway...M-Maybe I’ll try introducing myself again...”

“H-Hello! I’m uh...K-Kato!!” He says out loud to no one in particular. Because that didn’t sound awkward in the slightest. At least he’s trying, given their current situation.
