So I’ve seen some posts going around saying things like “boycotting doesn’t work, don’t bother boycotting Eurovision because they’ve already been paid. The only thing you can do to help is donate to organisations.” People are only saying this to absolve themselves of guilt. Don’t let them make you think that boycotting doesn’t work. It does.
Boycotting means that Eurovision will have a much harder time finding advertisements who want to partner with them, which means less funding overall. Boycotting means that they receive less money from televoting, ticket sales and merchandise. Boycotting means that their view count drops significantly and puts pressure on them to change their current practices. Boycotting means you won’t let Eurovision distract you while bombs are falling on Palestine. And most importantly: boycotting means sending a clear message that you will not stand for their support of Israel.
Eurovision is not staying apolitical. They have taken a political stance by letting Israel compete, just like they took a political stance when they banned Russia from competing. They are perfectly capable of banning countries for committing war crimes, so allowing Israel to compete shows that they are accepting and excusing Israel’s genocide. They are also sponsored by an Israeli company (MoroccanOil) so if you’re wondering how Eurovision could POSSIBLY side with Israel, there’s your answer: money.
Don’t give them any of yours. Don’t give them your viewership. Boycotting works, and if you’re feeling guilty for watching Eurovision, good. Feel bad. People are being killed, tortured, families torn apart and houses being bombed as we speak, so forgive me if I’m not sympathetic over you not being able to watch your fucking song contest. Not everything is about you. You’re going to have to feel uncomfortable sometimes when there’s a fucking genocide going on.
Lastly, not everyone is able to donate. Boycotting is a great way of helping if you’re not able to help financially. The Palestinian BDS National Committee and pro-Palestine organisations are encouraging people to boycott Eurovision, so even Palestinians themselves and Palestinian organisations are telling you that boycotting will help.

And dear god, if you’re really not able to go without Eurovision then find a fucking way to pirate it. I am also begging people not to hate-watch Israeli’s entry because all that does is stop the boycott and make the viewerships spike again. The best thing you can do is fucking ignore them.
Speaking of boycotting Eurovision, after my latest reblog (linked), I need to express my thoughts, since this morning I've read the worst takes ever.
Some people saying "I just won't watch the Israeli entry" or "Actually boycotting doesn't work, just let us have this fun thing when the world is so awful right now" or "Boycotting from your sofa is just performative activism".
My gosh. Get educated.
The Palestinian Call for Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) against Israel asked for a boycott of the whole contest. A quote from the linked article says:
Participating in Eurovision for Israel is “a dream, in particular this year, when it has even more meaning.” Since October 2023, Israel has murdered more than 30,000 Palestinians in Gaza, including at least 12,300 children, and injured a further 70,000.
Understanding the contest’s propaganda value, particularly in the time of genocide, the Israeli president Isaac Herzog says, “it’s important for Israel to appear in Eurovision.”
So, "just watching anything but the Israeli entry" does not count as boycotting.
"The world is awful right now" because awful people try to make propaganda out of "this fun thing", participating in a grandiose festival while people are still being killed and attacked every day.
This is exactly the right moment to think about Palestinian people! (Or the Armenian people who were killed and displaced by Azerbaijan during the recent Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.)
I am tired too, but I live in a privileged nation, where nobody is trying to actively harm me. I have a choice to watch the fun and the glitter and listen to silly songs or I can try to think of someone else who is getting attacked on the daily.
Mind you, you can still find a way to boycott the contest and listen to the songs, if you can't LIVE without them. Just don't add views or interactions to official channels who make money out of it, and don't use the hashtags. Talk to your buddies in DM and don't make it trend! How is that complicated??

I love Eurovision, not watching it when i followed it with such passion in the last few years was hard for me, but it would have been harder to stomach watching it while knowing that the event is actively supporting and pinkwashing a genocidal state, while knowing that at the same time i was having fun innocents were being killed. Buongiorno, vi scrivo perché, come molti miei coetanei e molte persone che credono nella pace e nella libertà, e che hanno lottato per poterle difendere in Italia e nel mondo, non posso stare a guardare mentre il Medio Oriente viene scosso dalla catastrofe a cui assistiamo ogni giorno; e soprattutto, perché non accetterò che il mio paese continui a prender parte nella legittimazione della carneficina.
Nel periodo 2000-2023, le azioni genocide e brutali dell'IDF e dello stato di Israele hanno provocato più di 10 000 vittime (fonte B'Tselem) nei Territori occupati, e un numero quasi triplicato nel solo periodo dal 7 ottobre a oggi. A causa dell'embargo israeliano che va avanti dal 2007, i palestinesi nella Striscia di Gaza sono costretti a convivere con frequenti interruzioni dell'approvigionamento di acqua ed elettricità e carenze di cibo e medicinali; l'impatto che questo ha sulla popolazione civile è documentato da anni: rischio elevato di mortalità materno-infantile, condizioni igienico-sanitarie disumane, povertà e miseria diffusa. In Cisgiordania, i palestinesi devono sopportare le angherie delle forze sioniste: moltissimi minori, ragazzi di meno di 14 anni, possono essere prelevati e tenuti in stato d'arresto informale secondo un sistema giuridico a due vie, che processa i cittadini israeliani in tribunali civili e quelli palestinesi in tribunali militari: ragazzini di 11, 12 anni vengono trattenuti per mesi senza possibilità di contatto con le proprie famiglie o senza diritto a conoscere i propri capi d'accusa (che spesso sono vaghi e portati avanti senza nessuna prova sostanziale). Seguendo a queste e molte altre considerazioni, Israele esercita un chiaro strapotere sulle popolazioni dei territori occupati, e le sue efferate azioni e omissioni, finora mai davvero contrastate dalla comunità internazionale, stanno ricevendo sempre maggiore condanna soprattutto da molti paesi definiti colloquialmente parte del "Sud del mondo", come il Messico, il Sud Africa e l'Indonesia, che hanno mosso di recente azioni presso la Corte di Giustizia Internazionale e la Corte Penale Internazionale per investigare le azioni sioniste in Medio Oriente.
A fronte di tutte le evidenze, bisogna essere consapevoli della funzione propagandistica che ha l'Eurovision Song Contest per lo stato sionista: Israele utilizza l'ESC ogni anno per legittimare la propria immagine agli occhi dell'Occidente, promuovendo un'immagine di paese aperto, progredito e democratico e censurando in ogni modo i suoi crimini in Palestina; nel 2019, nell'anno dell'organizzazione israeliana della competizione, alcune delle cartoline di presentazione, che introducono ogni artista in gara associandolo a una location del paese ospite, furono filmate a Gerusalemme Est (internazionalmente riconosciuta come parte della Cisgiordania) e nel Golan (altopiano riconosciuto come territorio siriano occupato da Israele). Secondo la propaganda sionista, Israele è presentato come uno stato ricco di storia e cultura, ma proiettato verso il futuro secondo un'operazione di pinkwashing e queerwashing che ha nell'ESC (storicamente riconosciuto come un evento ricco di rappresentazione per la comunità LGBT+) il suo pinnacolo annuale. Questa narrazione ignora totalmente lo sterminio anche culturale che i palestinesi hanno subito per quasi un secolo (ad esempio rinominando piatti, piante, e animali endemici della Palestina, o appropriando vari aspetti della cultura palestinese per costruire una fittizia identità israeliana retrodatata a prima dell'arrivo effettivo dei primi coloni europei di fede ebraica in Palestina, all'inizio del secolo scorso). Essa ha anche lo scopo di disumanizzare il popolo palestinese, secondo la narrativa arabofoba e islamofoba che ritrae i popoli mediorientali come barbari e violenti e privi di progresso e libertà civili.

Dopo che il 24 febbraio 2022 la Russia ha lanciato la sua operazione di larga scala sul suolo ucraino (secondo le posizioni ufficiali delle autorità russe, applicando i principi di legittima difesa e di tutela delle minoranze russofone nell'Ucraina orientale), vari paesi hanno protestato la sua presenza all'Eurovision e, minacciando un boicottaggio, hanno richiesto alla UER di escludere l'entità zarista dalla competizione; seguendo l'esito positivo di quell'azione di protesta, richiedo oggi che il mio paese, alla luce dei crimini commessi da Israele sin dalla sua istituzione nel 1947-48 e specialmente sin dallo scorso 7 ottobre (appellandosi similmente alla Russia al principio di autodifesa), ne richieda l'espulsione dalla UER o almeno l'esclusione dall'Eurofestival, ritirando altrimenti la propria partecipazione dalla competizione, e invitando ogni paese alleato amico della pace e della libertà a fare altrettanto. Lo sterminio di massa dei palestinesi ad opera dell'entità sionista deve cessare immediatamente, e alla popolazione palestinese dev'essere consentito immediatamente di fare ritorno alle proprie terre, in riparazione per la Nakba e l'espulsione dei palestinesi che va avanti da quasi ottant'anni; l'Italia ha il dovere internazionale di denunciare la malvagità dell'operazione sionista con ogni mezzo. Perciò, col cuore in mano, vi chiedo di mandare avanti la campagna #BoycottEurovision e di operare nel vostro e nostro piccolo affinché la Palestina possa finalmente conoscere la pace.
